  1. Before, 320 last June. 2nd was taken tonight at 246
  2. Something I've noticed over the years, when talking to people who've dealt with weight issues: We're caretakers, and we suck at taking care of ourselves. After reading some of these threads today, I see LBT is no different. So now that you've worked so hard to get where you are -- how are you treating yourself differently? Are you taking more care of everything in *your* life? Or are you still spending all your energy on everyone else?
  3. Mine are locked up tight in the back of my freezer. They screamed for awhile but they got quiet last night before I went to bed. Can I go to jail for Cookie Torture? *looks around, paranoid*

    Perspective

No offense taken, but I disagree with how you're looking at this. I don't base my opinion of myself on anything but myself. But it does help occasionally to look at someone else's stats - especially if I'm having a "I feel HUGE" day, and realize that I'm NOT huge that day - I'm just having a moment. The premise isn't to make yourself feel good about yourself when you're smaller than someone else. I'd never condone that. This is about perspective, plain and simple. And it's something - based on the number of body image books on the market today - that most of us do NOT have. The premise is to make us realize that we have very little perspective sometimes when it comes to ourselves - that our progress is moving along - that we are succeeding - even if we're having a bad day, it doesn't mean looking in the mirror reverts to our pre-band image. Our own perspective is what needs to change. And I think knowing that you're wearing the same size jeans as someone else you *admire* from this board is -- just might be a little smile and lift for you when you need it.

    What's wrong with Slim Fast?

The nutrionist told me when we were discussing the liquid diet phase that slim fast was a no-no because of the sugar and/or calories. The Atkin's shakes provide more protein and less sugar, and frankly, I like them better anyway. I think I'm had one slimfast shake in the last 10 years and it was - blech.

caffeine to be or not to be

Sorry, but this made me laugh out loud. Jack, you are a funny guy as for coffee, I quit off it for about a month after surgery, and weaned myself off before surgery but am back to my 4 cups before noon schedule now. Doesn't bother me at all.

    Post-op menstruation question for women

My periods have been longer and heavier recently. The cycle days are the same but - wow. I don't have cramps anymore though - not for the last six months. So I guess maybe it's an even trade

    The Gone for Good Club

I ordered 2 boxes (mostly to be nice, but my goodness - THIN MINTS!), and they're still sitting in the bag on my desk. Eventually, I have to take them home and then no telling what they'll do.... well, they won't do much if I stash them in the back of the freezer! They'll be too cold to taunt me. Right??? RIGHT????!!!!

    The Gone for Good Club

Hello. I'm Jill and I'm a scale addict. Okay, now really. I'm 41, currently married to a sailor (for how long now, I dunno. Trouble's a-brewin') that I met - yes - online - 11 years ago (he wasn't a sailor then!). I currently live in Madison Wisconsin and hubs is in Virginia (he had orders to Guam, unaccompanied, so I moved closer to my folks - then, the orders got revoked and he's still there and I'm here). I'm a computer programmer, two cats (Star and Sophie) rule my home. I make soap from scratch (lye + Oil + Water = soap) and candles in my not-so-copious free time. I'm also a writer, and have had several pieces of fiction and non-fiction published in magazines, as well as a book of poetry - all of which are in a genre that isn't appropriate to discuss in an open forum *grin*. I have been fat from day One, with minor eras of not-so-fatness and one era of wayyyyy too skinnyness that was acheived by eight months of starving myself (literally). (ever try to find a 32DD bra? my god they're ugly). I was banded in September of 2005 and as of last count, have lost 42.2 pounds with the band (73.2 total). I come from a family of fat people - my father and his sister are both morbidly obese. I finally made the decision, then the commitment to not walk their path. My avatar picture is about 10 years old, but shows me at my highest weight of 320 (albeit a younger 320 than I was before I started here.). I recently got ahold of a picture of me from last June before I started and once my dad scans it, I'll post it in the before/after pictures with a new one. Good luck to everyone

    I love colby jack cheese!!

The hardest sharpest cheddar is my favorite. Oh, and if it comes with salami in it, count me in. There's a reason there isn't any in my house. If there was, I'd be eating it

    Committment Thread to lose weight

Grats, Penni  There's a book called "Write it down, Make it Happen" that I read a couple years ago that teaches primarily what you are doing here. If anyone disbelieves the power of your own words, check it out here: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0684850028/sr=8-1/qid=1141148410/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-0151640-2143975?%5Fencoding=UTF8]http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0684850028/sr=8-1/qid=1141148410/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-0151640-2143975?%5Fencoding=UTF8[/ame]

Catholic? What are you giving up during Lent???

Dammnit he stole my thunder :/ I gave up lent for Lent about 18 years ago. *chuckle* You ever hear someone refer to themselves as a recovering Catholic? That's me. It's not that I have anything against Catholicism (my father is very devout). It's just that I disagree with a lot of the rules that the Catholic church preaches, so I disengaged myself from it, and looked for something that actually made me feel spiritual and happy. When I was a kid, we used to give up snacking after dinner, which was horrible because we were a popcorn kinda family :/

    Addictions...

I am a smoker. And I was, at one time, either obessed or addicted to an online role playing game. But I don't think I was ever addicted to food. I don't drink often. Both of my grandfather's were alcoholics, and around age 25 it hit me that I could be, too, if I didn't watch myself. So two or three times a year now, I may have a couple drinks, but that's it.
  15. Once since being banded in September, I have vomitted from my lower stomach. It was an unpleasant experience, but it can/does happen.

Not lost for 4 weeks now...Why?

Yea. When I work out, I make sure I get more calories. For example, if I know I'm not going to work out that day, I keep it around 800, but if I am, I go up to 1200-1300. Your body may be holding onto the weight in starvation mode.

    Changing Taste Buds Anyone?

There are some things that do not taste good to me anymore. I used to LOVE white chocolate raspberry fat free yogurt but just the smell of it makes me gag now. There are other things, too. It's not everything - just a few select items. None of which I'll miss much in the long run.

    Average Caloric Intake

600-800 net. Meaning, depending on the exercise I do, I actually eat between 1200-1300 a day, and burn off 600-700 a day. If I don't exercise, I keep it below 800. Thursday night, I drove up to Rochester MN because my father was having surgery. I spent 3 days with my Mom, and came home last night. I walked a lot up there, but no real cardio exercise, and we ate in restaraunts the whole time so I wasn't able to count calories. So for 3 days (according to the scale today) I didn't lose or gain. (course, it's also that time of the month for me, so that's normal) - I'm exactly the same as the day I left. So today, it's back on the "write it ALL down!" train.

PB? Worse Experience of My Life!!!

As much as we try to avoid them, sometimes after a fill, a PB is unavoidable. Something you could eat just 3 days before becomes the enemy. That enemy for me now is chicken. I used to be able to eat it. But now, twice, it's caused major episodes, and I refuse to try it again until my restriction goes down, if it does. I love the new acronym. PB just doesn't really cut it

    Clothes in your closet

I have rubbermaid tubs of clothes in smaller sizes, all separated by size. When stuff in my closet gets too big, I simply get out the next tub I've got down to a 14 ready to go. I donate my clothes. They are thrilled to get bigger sizes because apparently most folks don't donate them.

What am I missing? Why are ppl leaving?

On so many - or all - levels. I'm going out of town this weekend. Maybe I'll get lucky and y'all will be done with this before I get back. I wonder if that kinda luck is even possible.
  25. Tricare paid for my banding without any hassles. I know some others have had trouble, but mine sailed right through.
