  1. I got in the lift with a very obese colleague the other day. Someone bumped into him and apologised. He replied 'no, it is my fault for being so fat and taking up so much room'. It broke my heart
  2. Wow, what an amazing difference
  3. There was a tiny spot on a bench seat on the train today. I was able to easily fit my little butt in there. It was easily half the size of any gap I would attempt to sit in pre surgery. Why are my NSVs always about using public transport???
  4. I have haemmochromotosis. I have not needed venesections and likely will not need to until menopause (as you are bloodletting each month naturally). You can control it somewhat through diet. I started drinking black tea (decreases Iron absorption) and reduced my intake of Vitamin C. This got me from just above normal to normal levels. Post surgery, you are eating so little that it is unlikely your levels would increase. Just let your nutritionist know as they may want you to take an iron free Multivitamin.
  5. Oh. We do have that. The cheese comes in a tin? It doesn't seem like a very popular food (here). I have had it once.

    Easter Weight Loss Challenge

SW 161lbs. Massive 5.5lb loss this week. Of course in between challenges! Good luck everyone!
  7. Dumb question, but what is Mac and Cheese? It has been mentioned several times. Is it Macaroni?
  8. @@CowgirlJane - your post resonated with me. I had lost more than 80lbs seven times in the past 20 years. Each time I did it I was pushing through the constant 24/7 hunger. Every meal was maximum quantity for minimum calories. I would eat huge bowls of Soup made with only the very lowest calorie vegetables, stuff myself with substitutes like konjac noodles. I always felt like I was holding an elastic band at maximum stretch trying to hang on. It was an impossible task and eventually there would be a situation or event that would prevent me sticking to the regime and I would break. Each time I put the weight back in at a rate of around 5lbs a week. This surgery has allowed me to lose weight eating actual food, food which has fat and Protein and actually tastes good. I am 4.5 months out and 93lbs down. I don't feel that 'just hanging on' feeling at all that previously would kick in after around 10 weeks. So far, this time around, I am feeling very positive about the possibility of long term success.

You know you lost weight when

In the blink of an eye, this will be you too. Good luck
  13. Thanks Jess for the information. My kids are 2, 4 & 7. They eat tiny amounts. I am just not confident that without complex carbs that they could reach their energy requirements.
  14. GW 165 Final weight 166 Missed it by 1lb!
  15. I never said they NEED bread, Pasta and rice. I did say they need carbs. You yourself have just listed several serves of carbs your kids eat each day, so I am not really sure what your point is. It blows me away that we have all struggled with obesity yet many people claim to have a perfect diet. Even if you have it now, it is unlikely you had it before or you wouldn't be here. I am the one who had/has the problem that needed a drastic solution. I am not pushing my new way of eating on my family and friends who have had, and remain to have, a very healthy relationship with food.

Fat Acceptance Movement - how do you feel?

Oops, hit reply before I finished. It is still important to look after your health no matter what size you are. Obese people are constantly toms to lose weight by Drs as a response to all health conditions. While weight can be a big influence in many conditions, it is silly never to address any of the other contributing factors. Nutrition is still important even if the goal isn't to lose weight.

    Easter Weight Loss Challenge

    Yes please! GW 148lbs ????
  19. Bread, past and rice is bad for kids? I don't think so.
  20. We don't have any junk food in our house, but our kids do eat bread, rice and pasta. I can't rid the house of those foods. They are all quite thin and need carbs as an energy source. I am the only one in our house that needs to eat less.
  21. For those of us with kids, this is impossible. You need to find a way to resist even if the food is available. If I could spend the rest of my life at a health retreat, this journey would be much easier. Instead, every morning I have to make rounds of vegemite on toast which tests me considerably ???? OP, surely your activity level would have been affected with your surgery and subsequent pain. This would be contributing to your weight loss slowing. Don't be too hard on yourself. Living with pain is very challenging.
  22. You look great! I know you haven't reached your goal yet, but your during photo is just of an average person. How great is average!!! Our stats, including surgery date, are very similar.
