Heather Feather got a reaction from liannatx in Anyone with successful weight loss with the gastric sleeve that had NO success with the lap band?
Yes, right here! While I lost 85 lbs initially, the complications I had with the band (inability to eat due to getting stuck on freaking Water, constant vomiting, hernia, constant pain, etc) caused me to have to get the band completely unfilled. This lead to a 50 lb weight gain. While my band was unfilled, I did three rounds of Insanity, Weight Watchers, South Beach Diet, T25, did 5Ks twice a month, and STILL gained all that weight back.

Now that I've had the sleeve about two months, I've lost 57 lbs with very minor issues (reflux, but it's treatable with an acid blocker). I wish I'd done the sleeve the first time, but I always have to do things the hard way.

Do what is right for you, but go in with your eyes open. I wish you the very best of luck!

While I understand that every experience is different, this does give me a bit a of hope. My lap-band recovery was awful. I'm really hoping my sleeve recovery is easier.

Oh, I understand what you meant. Sorry. Well, what I can tell you is that the sleeve works. It really does. But, it is only a tool that you need to use properly. If emotional eating is your problem, seek help for that prior to the surgery. Get into the habit of picking up something positive to do that doesn't involve food in order to cope. Make sure you are drinking enough Water and drinking it throughout the day. Make sure you have a good support system in place BEFORE your surgery so that it will go as smoothly as possible.

Nothing is 100% effective, and NOTHING is 100% fool-proof without complications. But if you open your eyes, your ears, and your mind to the possibilities and understand all of that, you will be successful.

Good luck, and may the force be with you.

Update: I've not had this happen since the once incident. Thanks for all the advice about not eating or drinking before bedtime. That night, I'd had dinner pretty late due to work and was laying flat on my back while sleeping. I've also made sure that I'm sleeping on my side or propped up if my reflux is a bit hinky.

Thanks again to everyone for your advice. Have a great new year!

Congratulations! I remember being excited but to your point the next goal is staring you right in the face.
I have been stuck just 1lb short of reaching a normal weight and BMI for two weeks now jumping back and forth between 175 and 176. I have decided I will get there when I get there. I am a daily weigher and had to stay off the scales now for the last week in the hopes I won't smash it! LOL! It is glass and this week annoying!
I keep telling myself it doesn't matter that I have done great and look great and those last 10 lbs really don't matter but so far that isn't working. Apparently they matter more than I thought they would.

    Hi,
I was going to just post this to the end of my "elusive onederland" thread, but I couldn't figure out how to add the picture? The only way I know how is to start a new thread because it has the "attach file" feature.
So my patience paid off and as of today, exactly 39 weeks and 1 day since my first appointment and 19 weeks and 3 days since my surgery I have hit ONEDERLAND!
I guess I thought it would be more magical.... Don't get me wrong, it's AWESOME, but I still have more work ahead. I haven't been under 200lbs since I was a TEENAGER and that was a while ago.
Thanks everyone for all the encouragement and kind words since starting my journey.

Firstly, stop with the diet sodas and just stick with a Water or no calorie drinks. Then get back to basics like in the beginning, which means:
Protein first (lean beef, chicken, pork or seafood)
If you have room, then veggies
Limit processed food and sugar, including the "white stuff" like bread, Pasta, rice and potatoes
Lots of no calorie NON CARBONATED fluids, preferably Water mostly
You haven't stretched your sleeve. It's just the natural progression of things to be able to eat a little more as the months go by, not the sodas. But the sodas are obviously causing and issue for you, so they need to go. Protien and water will help keep your sleeve full so you won't have room for sodas
Now get back to your program and get the rest of your weight off! You're doing great!
