  1. My surgery was yesterday. I was in a bit of pain, but dilauded is a wonderful thing. Today I have had jello apple juice and a popsicle for breakfast. Pills are a challenge...pain twinges, then gurgling and a burp. No pain from incisions. Still some nausea. All in all, I've got this!
  2. I can't describe the pain in and around my chest every time I take a sip of anything. I've been doing my walking, using my incentive spirometer and taking gas-x but no love. Every once in a while I'll pass gas out of the attic or the basement and feel some relief (the basement gives more relief), but not enough. My left hand is in a huge amount of pain on the back of the hand near the wrist. I think I twisted it and rolled over it last night. It's getting late, so I'm going to walk a lap around the block and hope that helps jiggle loose some gas and then it's off to bed. Are they giving you anything for pain?
  3. My surgeon prescribed 4 protein shakes a day with 1/2 cup of non-starchy vegetables.
  4. Yay!! Glad it went well. Hopefully they have good pain meds for you.
  5. I don't know why they wouldn't speak to you about the specifics. You are the customer. I have Indep Health. I called and the customer service person I spoke to said they would send me out the criteria. I got it two weeks later.
  6. Welcome! So, where are you in the process?
  7. I bet your comorbidities are the reason you were approved quickly, and since the band has failed, they had to go in anyway. How great to have it all done at once!
  8. Lol, I watched a similar video, and had similar thoughts as they moved the fat aside..."just take it out!". I know its not that easy. I remember having hernia repair and as the anesthesia was starting to take effect, telling the surgeon to take out any fat he sees. He laughed. I am sure he'd heard that before.
  9. I don't feel like my stomach is a healthy organ. It is 80% too big and needs to be reduced in order for me to be healthy.
  10. I had my daughter take all my cake mixes, Pasta, etc. My food cupboard is usually stuffed. It is kinda nice to have some room in there. The only thing I have bought recently is low-sodium, fat free broth, Stevia and sugar-free Jello.
  11. I am on 4 shakes and 1/2 cup of non-starchy vegetables per day. Not sure why the surgeons have different pre-op preferences. I know mine is a liver reduction diet, and knowing it makes the surgery easier has helped to motivate me to stay on it.
  12. Thanks, I needed to know other people get unwanted opinions. I am 3 days from surgery and a friend felt the need to tell me every bad WLS experience she has ever heard of.
  13. I have been doing the same kind of guessing. My daughter is getting married Oct 18th. My surgery is scheduled for September 23rd. I bought my dress a size too small about a month ago. I have lost 15lbs so far pre-op, and the dress barely zips. Hoping I won't be swimming in it by the wedding. However, I am prepared to go dress shopping the week before the wedding if I have to.
  14. OK, that's what I was doing. I just noticed the serving size is 2 scoops, but the directions say 1 scoop. I know my NUT said 2 scoops. I started second guessing myself. After day 3, my hunger subsided quite a bit.
  15. I don't think the alcohol in two drops of extracts is a factor. Curious as to how you are mixing the shakes. The bariatric fusion label has conflicting directions. How many scoops are you using?
  16. I would wait and see if your surgeon even mentions it.
  17. I didn't study my lab slip, but it seemed that they did a basic blood panel, tested thyroid, H-pyloric, pregnancy (which at 52, I found funny). I also have mild asthma and was told to use my inhaler as needed until surgery. I doubt I will even need to do that. Otherwise, it isn't an issue. I think it is just something the anesthesiologist needs to be aware of.
  18. see if this helps: http://www.bariatric-surgery-source.com/lap-band-insurance.html
  19. Mine is on 9/23 at ECMC in Buffalo. Nervous/excited is how I feel too.
  20. I sent for the paperwork 3 times before I actually filled it out completely and sent it in.
  21. One of my daughters is getting married in mid October. My surgery is Sept 23rd. I'm trying to predict what size I will be 3.5 weeks post-op. Thoughts anyone?
