    Corn

Corn is largely carbohydrate and I can't waste sleeve space on carbs right now. That is probably why you were told that. Also, it is difficult for the stomach to digest fibrous vegetables, especially when you are on an acid reducer.

    Blank Stares.

I attended a birthday party today for my 8 yr old nephew. I have been very open and candid about the surgery with my family. There were family friends there that questioned how much weight I've lost and how. My typical response is "I had 85% of my stomach removed." It isn't the response they were expecting and the dumbfounded expressions are priceless.
  4. Before you go nuts with prepared foods, make sure you are getting all your Protein. Keep in mind that a frozen dinner might be 20gms protein, but thats if you eat the whole thing, It isn't difficult to panfry a chicken breast, piece of fish, or steak. or scramble an egg. I eat one of those things for dinner every day. Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, lowfat string cheese are all quick protein sources.

    Fertile Myrtle?

That's a question for your Gyn doc. I would call them regardless, just to make sure you have nothing else going on. My sister had a cyst rupture that caused alot of bleeding. However, she was also in pain.
  6. I take Bariatric fusion chewables. My doc has his bypass people take 4 a day and sleevers take 3. I just had my 2nd post op check-up this week along with labs. Everything was fine except Vitamin D. It is common here in Buffalo. I had Vit D issues pre-op as well. So 8 wks of 50k units and then 3k/day to maintain and I will be all set.

    Pre surgery preparation

I assume she meant that she is at or just above the BMI required for surgery and her instructions to maintain were for pre-op.
  8. sugar free popsicles. They gave me one with every meal in the hospital and now I use them as part of my Fluid intake.

    First Restaurant Dinner Out?

When I was cleared for soft foods and ground meat (3 wks post-op), I took my daughter to Applebees. We ordered 10 Thai peanut chicken wings. She ate 9. I dissected 1 and ate the chicken. Then I ate about 1/4 of a burger with no bun. I took the rest home for lunch and dinner the next day. She felt sorry for me not being able to eat alot. I had to explain to her that I feel full and it was wonderful to go out and order something at a restaurant and feel normal. I needed that.

    Crystal light

It is on the recommended list from my NUT. However, I try to limit artificial sweeteners, so I don't drink it every day.

    5weeks post op

I'm also 5 wks post-op and my sleep habits have changed. I sleep through the night, but I wake much earlier, always before my alarm goes off. I attribute this to not having to pee during the night and possibly, less snoring/more restful sleep. I also no longer go straight to the coffee pot in the morning.
  17. Are you mixing them with Water or skim milk? The milk made a big difference for me and it pumps up the Protein a bit.
  18. My pureed food stage was brief.... couple days. As long as it is tolerated well, my dr moves his patients to soft foods. I had a difficult time eating enough Protein, so there wasn't room for vegetables then. Even now, a couple ounces of chicken/fish and I am full. I did use some baby applesauce. Tried Cream of Wheat twice, and it was uncomfortable going down. I may have made it too thick. Otherwise, Greek Yogurt, cottage cheese, sugar free puddings....all worked well. I am over 4 weeks now and I can eat almost anything if I chew it well. I just don't have room for alot.
  19. The pre-op diet has a purpose. It shrinks your liver so that the surgery will be easier. They have to lift and move your liver out of the way to get to your stomach. I kept this thought in mind during my 10 day Protein shake diet and that was enough motivation to keep me from straying. You can do this! Good Luck!

Should I hold off on vacation

I assume it is all-inclusive... hmmm. Two and a half months is enough time to get yourself on track with your sleeve. My concern would be that you will want to get your money's worth and the small amount you are able to eat will be frustrating for you. On the flip-side, there should be lots of food choices available. That being said...I would go. There will be lots of things to focus on other than food.

    Protein

Is she on at least soft foods? Prior to that, your Protein choices are pretty limited. You can try another brand of Protein shake or another flavor. Cottage cheese, Greek Yogurt and fish are my protein favorites. I still use my Protein shakes to make sure I am hitting my goal.
  22. I have a titanium hip replacement and of course, the staples from my sleeve. I flew buffalo to chicago and got a pat-down in Buffalo, but didn't set off the machines at all in Chicago. I always tell them I have an artificial hip, and in chicago, the guy said "well, its not showing up today."
  23. A whole yogurt is about all i can eat at one time. Full feels differently than it did before the sleeve. It isn't that satiated, food coma feeling. It is actually more discomfort. I try to stop eating before I reach that point. It sounds like you are doing well.

    Regret surgery

My surgeon said something at my initial consultation that I keep in mind always. "You won't be able to take this weight off without weight loss surgery. Your body will not let you and will fight you all the way." After years of yo-yo dieting and trying every program I saw, I know this is true. I am over 3 weeks post-op, down 38lbs (some of this was pre-op diet) and although it wasn't easy, it is purposeful discomfort and I have had no complications.

    They seemed sane...Dating horror stories

So, yesterday, I began to chat with a guy on a dating site. He fits all of my criteria. His second message asks "What's your figure like?" My response was to tell him that it's changing....surgery, etc. And that I have had 5 children, and finally "curvy" is my best description. He proceeds to ask again.... I am thinking he wants my bra size... I entertained a whole bunch of his other very personal, sexual questions. Then decided enough is enough and told him I wasn't comfortable discussing these things with someone I don't know. Conversation abruptly ended. This is typical of my online dating experiences.
