  1. Whatever your insurance requires should be what they do. My insurance was similar, but I had to do the 6 month weight loss program because I didn't meet that BMI. You can sign up for a seminar on the Beaumont website. Good luck to you!!
  2. I'm a big fan of the Beaumont program. I had Dr Chengelis and he was wonderful, but so much of your care is through the weight loss center and I absolutely love it there. I go through Troy.
  3. Oh my word. I can so relate. The same thing happened to me - around 1980. There were 2 girls who were at 100 pounds and I was one of them. It was one of the most embarrassing days of my life. I will NEVER forget it.
  4. It's such a personal decision. I decided to personally tell my family, close friends and close coworkers. Now, I know for a fact that some of those people told other people, etc, but I don't get worked up about it. All my close friends and family have been so supportive. And those who I didn't personally tell are either supportive or don't have the balls to tell me anything different. Ha!
  5. Once. The WLC I went to handled everything and you only meet with the surgeon once prior to surgery. After, you have a couple 5 minute "atta girl" appointments with the surgeon, but the WLC handles the bulk of my after care.

    Feeling sick

You can take anything per my WLC. You don't need a smaller dose. She even said I could take ibuprofen if I needed to, but I stuck with Tylenol based meds

    Hormones or lack of

I'm a little older (42) and had a total hysterectomy last summer, which delayed my WLS until last Dec. I can't have HRT, because I had cancer, so I'm not sure if it's slowing down my weight loss or not. I don't have a choice in the matter and I'm losing, so that's good!!!

    Coffee and protein?

!! Does it taste good? Does it clump up? Did you have to let the coffee cool first? Thanks so much for the reply and encouragement! It tasted pretty good. It didn't clump up at all. I didn't let it cool. I think because it's the premade, it is already dissolved?

    Coffee and protein?

Hi. I've used the vanilla as coffee creamer, but not with the whole shake. Another idea is to add instant decaf to the shake. That's pretty tasty and you still get your whole shake in. In time, you'll be able to do both. Don't worry!!
  10. Hi, it seems like most ladies at my post op diet class were given a protein goal of 70-80 per day. Men were given a higher target. Hope that helps!!

Some days my job is pretty cool

    Awwwww. Sweet little pup!
  12. I've been getting b12 shots (not sure what kind?). I feel good, but I don't know any different, because I've been getting them all along. I'm a slow, steady loser, so I wouldn't say it's helping much with weight loss.

    6Month Lab Results

I've been getting b12 shots at each follow up, so when they did my blood work, it was high, too. My NP just shrugged and said it was because of the shots and I was going to be getting another one whether I liked it or not. Lol. It's no biggie.

    My story - my struggle

There is really nothing you can say to change her mind at this time. Let her know you've made your decision and would appreciate her support. Then, continue on your journey. Once you are healthy, she will come around. Read people's stories on this site. See how many people have zero regrets. You need to do what's best for you and your family. You've got this!
  15. I use Premier Protein. Sold everywhere. Cheaper at Costco and SAMs (on sale this month at SAMs)

    Thiamine (Vit. B-1) supplement question

They gave me a shot of it at my first post surgical visit. Hurt like heck, but happy to not have to add another pill!
  17. I was having issues like that before my hysterectomy. My uterus was enlarged and pressed on my bladder. They sell pads that are very effective for such issues.

    Constipation

You need to drink. If you can't and you think you're truly dehydrated, you need to call your dr. Getting constipated is very common due to the protein and limited fiber in our diets at first. You probably need to talk to your doctor about stool softeners and possibly Miralax or something
  19. You need to stay on top of it. It can get pretty bad. My dr recommend up to 4 Colace per day (stool softener) and Miralax, too, if needed. Smooth Move tea is also recommended by many.
  20. That's awesome. Good for you, Dub.
  21. I was glad to have shorts over pants, because when I was in bed, they have those leg things on you to promote blood flow. And they're HOT!!!!
  22. So exciting!!! I didn't have to do the liquid only thing, but I would imagine Jello, sugar free Popsicles, etc will help In the hospital, I really didn't do anything. I read here and FB, etc, so be sure to bring your phone charger. I watched a little tv. Overwhelmingly, you'll read on here that people don't use half of what they take to the hospital. I do recommend some loose (pj?) shorts to wear for booty protection when you're walking the halls Best wishes for you and congrats!!!
