  1. Hi, all! My surgery is in Dec. I'm dying to go through my closet and purge stuff that won't fit (summer clothes, etc), but I'm nervous in case something falls through! What did you do?

    Clothes - when to purge?

@proudgrammy. I'm still dealing with "cancer head" after my hysterectomy this summer, so in the back of my mind, I fear that something will happen to keep me from having the surgery. In confident that when it's done, I'm doing to rock the weight loss. ????
  3. Hi, all. My biggest fear is that I will wake up from surgery only to find it wasn't done for some reason. How often does that happen?? I think I'm extra anxious because I had a hysterectomy this summer for uterine cancer and still have cancer head, feeling like it could be lurking anywhere.

    How often is WLS aborted?

My head tells me everything will be fine. I mean, I just had a surgeon looking all around, had scans, etc. my cancer was contained in my uterus, 23 lymph nodes were tested and all were clear, my oncologist was thrilled that I was having WLS and gave me clearance - so I'm really thinking it will be fine, but... my mind can't help but worry a little!!
  5. I was diagnosed with uterine cancer about 2 months before I was supposed to have the sleeve. Not quite as dramatic as finding it during surgery though! Just wanted to say I'm so sorry to hear that, but hopefully your doctors will take excellent care if you and this is just a speed bump for you. A hysterectomy cured my cancer, and I am rescheduled for Dec 14. Im not going to lie, though... My biggest fear is waking up and finding out they aborted surgery because they found something else. Xx praying for you.
  6. My surgery is coming up in Dec. while reading these forums, I've noticed so many different thoughts on telling people you're having the surgery. Personally, my family knows, my close friends know and my close co-workers know. I won't advertise it on FB or anything, but I feel confident in my decision and don't really care what people think. I am blessed to have supportive family and friends. I'm just curious what guides others' decisions to tell or not?
  7. Is this a common recommendation? (No dried fruit permanently?). I enjoy some dried fruit and it's kind of a staple in backpacking/camping. I hadn't heard this. :-(

    Surgery postponed

So sorry! What a disappointment for you. Having my surgery cancelled or waking up to find they couldn't do it for some reason is my biggest fear!! Hoping things get back on track quickly for you!! ????

    Update on my dilemma

I had to wait about 5 extra months because I ended up being diagnosed with uterine cancer (hysterectomy cured me, thank goodness!). I had already done the 6 months supervised diet, so my whole journey is about a year. Really, it's no big deal in the great scheme of things. I've used this time to continue to make healthy changes and lose s little more weight. I'd save that money and take your wife on a nice vacation!!

To tell or not to tell...

Wow, I didn't mean to open such a can of worms. I can honestly see both sides and I'm sure I will find myself at the wrong end of an awkward conversation at some point. I already have the one friend who just wants to tell me all the failure stories she has heard of, etc. Mostly, I feel sad for those who feel they can't tell immediate family. I wish we all could be supported as we deserve to be.

  13. I started my WLS journey in Jan'14. I had almost 5 months in of my 6 month wait time when I was diagnosed with uterine cancer. I had to have a complete hysterectomy this July, which would have been my sleeve surgery month. Thankfully, surgery was my cure and I just need to have frequent follow ups (and suffer through instant menopause -HOT flashes!!) Through it all, I keep up my WL appointments and I now have my date! Dec 14. I am a speech therapist through the schools, so I picked that time. I've lost about 40 pounds since last Jan. Still around BMI of 41. Type II diabetes and fatty liver. Can't wait to lessen all of that and have more energy. Went to the theater last night to see Dirty Dancing. I'm hoping it's the last time I'll feel that uncomfortable in a theater seat, trying not to touch the person next to me. Struggling already with too big clothes. Not wanting to buy anything now, but the struggle is real! Looking forward to reading more stories now that it's getting close for me (again!)
  14. Thank you so much. I'm feeling really well. I did have some nerve damage in my legs from the surgery, but it's getting better and all I really care is that the cancer is gone. It was a scary, scary time in my life. Looking forward to moving on in health!!!!
  15. Hi! I've been going through Beaumont, too (Troy). My surgery is Dec14 at RO. The six months seems so long, but you will learn so much and really make some great changes that will help you succeed in the long run! So happy for us all!!!

    Packing for the hospital

You won't need much. Slip on shoes, loose clothes to wear home. Maybe a small pillow to make driving home a little more comfy (put between you and the seatbelt). Toiletries to freshen up. If you have an iv in, you won't be able to use a robe. Chapstick. Best wishes to you!!

Hi, all. I'll be having my surgery out of Royal Oak Beaumont in December! I've been attending the WL program at Troy. Wishing everyone the best!
  19. @@Kellyfitz4, I'm having mine done at ROB, too. Dr. Chengelis. I go through Troy's weight loss center.
  20. Hi and welcome! I've been in process for about 10 months and have my surgery date finally set for Dec 14! I was stalled by the need to get a hysterectomy for uterine cancer -it's all gone, thank goodness! Going through the process is exciting and you'll learn so much!

    December Sleeve?

I was in Michigan two weeks ago (Ann Arbor). I wish you the best and let's stay in touch my sleeve sister! Ditto, @@Cutepretty1! It'll be nice to have someone to go through this "together". We were in TN this summer -Gatlinburg area. I have a friend who lives in Chattanooga. Love Nashville. My dad's side of the family was from the Culleoka area. I have a fondness for TN!

    December Sleeve?

I'm feeling really good about that date. I basically was allowed to hand pick my date! I wanted to feel good enough to enjoy Christmas Day and it will allow me to have three weeks off yet only use five sick days (work in the schools).

    December Sleeve?

Just got my date! Dec 14!! Woo hoo!!!

    December Sleeve?

I'm hoping to get mine in December. I was supposed to have it done in July, but ended up needing a hysterectomy for endometrial cancer instead. Surgery was my cute and I've been released for WLS. Working in the schools leaves my time off limited, so I'm really hoping for Dec! I don't want to wait a year from my originally scheduled date and screw up another summer. I want to celebrate next summer!!
