What to pack for hospital stay?
DaisyAmy replied to Thecloude1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in one night. All I really used were my brush and toothbrush, phone charger, slippers and pj shorts. I was happy to have the shorts to cover my booty - but would have been sweating in pj pants. Plus they put those leg wraps on you for circulation, so pants would have been in the way. Wore home what I came in. -
This has been my mantra on this journey...

I got my stuff yesterday. Hope yours comes soon!

Parents of young children - what are you telling your kids about surgery?
DaisyAmy replied to walkinggirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's tough. My kid is 13, so I told him the truth. It helped that I have a friend that went through it about a year ago. It's such a personal decision but be prepared to answer a lot of questions about what you do or don't eat! -
Super sore incisions
DaisyAmy replied to Deneshia Larkins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It hurt pretty good whenever I got up on days 2-3. I walked like a hunchback around the house! After that, it was much better, though. I only took 2 doses of pain meds the day I got home and one the next morning. You'll feel good soon!! -
I ordered on the 30th and tracking has it being delivered tomorrow. It looks like it was shipped from my same state, so maybe that's why it's quicker. I did get email confirmation in the delivery/tracking, etc.

It is difficult! Does your nut allow other calorie free drinks? I find that I'm able to get Vitamin Water Zero or Propel down a little quicker than water.

Significant Other Support
DaisyAmy replied to Backer16's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I agree with that. We do need to be used to saying "no, thanks". We still have some things (kids, after all), but a change to a healthier diet overall in our household is in the works! -
Significant Other Support
DaisyAmy replied to Backer16's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Aw, husbands rock! Mine has been great. Some things I've found to be really helpful/supportive are: -"I'm proud of you" -"what can I do for you?" - taking on family meal plans/making sure he and the kid are fed - especially during preop when I was starving and not up to cooking for them and post op liquid/purée times. - stepping up by taking days off to handle things I normally do. My sick days have been used up with surgery and appointments. He has been handling pediatrician appts, cable guy, etc -complimenting, but not to the cloying/overboard level, which would make me feel like he didn't love me as much before. Just the right level ???? - being willing to overhaul the eating of our household - getting the crap out of the house! You'll be amazing, I'm sure. Best of luck to your wife!! -
I found a good protein!

For Syntrax, you can call them directly and order a sampler pack. One per household. They're great! 1-866-333-7403 x800 Ask for the nectar variety sampler. Should be $15+$1.99 S/h = $16.99 total -

Kidney issue delays sleeve surgery
DaisyAmy replied to Grace818's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So sorry you got delayed by that, but so happy it was found in time to do any more damage. I was delayed by cancer, too (uterine). Once I had my surgery and it was all removed, I got the all clear rom my oncologist and scheduled for December. That was about 5 months later than expected, but I chose the 2nd date to be attached to a school break. Worked great and now I'm on the losers' bench!! Best of luck to you!! -
Tomorrow is the DAY-What to bring?
DaisyAmy replied to newjrny85's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was very happy to have pj shorts. I know you can wear another hospital gown backwards to go walking, but I was much more comfortable actually having the shorts on. Pants would have been too hot, especially with the things they put on your legs for circulation. Other people recommend a small pillow to cushion your belly against the car seat on the ride home, but I didn't need it. -
How long on clear liquids?
DaisyAmy replied to RuralNurse's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It varies widely. I was sent home on full liquids for 2 weeks. You will appreciate the homemade stuff!! -
Cleaned out my closet again.
DaisyAmy replied to Margie122's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've been overhauling my closet this weekend and it's been amazing!! I'm only 3 weeks out, but with my pre op weight loss, I'm down about 70 altogether! So far, I've got 3 bags for a lovely lady who could use a hand up and 3 bags to donate. And still more to go through!! I have lots to get me through the next few sizes down, except pants, so... leggings it is! -
Wow, you look fantastic! Way to go!

Is it a secret FB group? I'm interested, but not in plastering my business all over FB world I was sleeved on the 14th.
-
My plan is for regular foods at 6 weeks. I'm on puree now. I'm hoping at my appt Monday, they might tell me I can start mushy earlier - they let me start puree 1/2 a week earlier. Might be worth a phone call to your dr?

Similar to what everyone else said - I had to do a gazillion questions, both on paper and computer, then she put them through the magic formulas and declared me good to go!

First time no sleeves to work out
DaisyAmy replied to BairwithMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's fantastic!!! I've never gone sleeveless - someday, though!!!!!! -
My insurance requires a 6-month physician supervised diet?!? :(
DaisyAmy replied to piemonade's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My insurance has the same requirement - and then I had to put off WLS to deal with a little cancer issue, so I ended up on the 11 month plan. But, in the end, I feel like I learned a lot, dropped about 60 pounds pre op and was really prepared for this lifestyle change. The time will fly by, and you'll be better for it! -

Chest pain after eating...
DaisyAmy replied to boricua123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's probably normal. Did you have a hiatal hernia repair? Just had my two week follow up and the surgeon said that the sternum pain is normal. It resolved for me by the first week unless I take too large of bites -
Mine was before sleeve, too. About 4 1/2 months. It delayed my WLS. It is tough. Much tougher than WLS. There is a forum called HysterSisters that I recommend checking out for any questions you may have. Xx

At my 1 week follow up, they gave me a B1 shot (B12, too), before my blood work was even done to test levels. I think it's pretty important!
