  2. I am going home to Detroit to spend Easter with my family. I am so excited. I am curious to see if they can tell that I have lost some weight. It has been since Thanksgiving since they have seen me, and that was almost 30 pounds ago. I am not sure if I will tell them how. I am not sure how they will react. I can always say I made a lifestyle change.

So happy Easter, Passover, Spring, or whatever makes you happy to everyone! I think I want the Easter Bunny to bring me a new pair of jeans in a smaller size!!

  3. Terry,

Why do you have to keep getting unfills? What happens when they take out all that is there? I am at 4 cc's for my first fill. He said that I still had 2 cc's in there. I thought that I would feel restricted, but i really don't. I don't think that I can eat much, but I feel like I can eat more than I should. I think that if I could just eat regular portions, I would be doing really well. But now that I have been banded, I feel guilty when I eat a normal portion.

  4. Becky, Yep we were there at the same time. I was sitting kind of in the middle. I came in at 3:30. I was wearing a shirt that said "I love Ireland". He did my fill too, and since it was my first one, I don't have anything to compare it to. I just thought that it was really wierd feeling. I was hoping that I had a little more restriction, but I don't think that I do. Plus, I forgot that I was supposed to be on liquids and ate solid foods the next day at lunch. I hope I didn't mess anything up. When is your next fill? Mine is April 14 at the same time!

  5. Hi All,

I am going for my first fill on Monday! I am nervous and excited, as I have been really hungry and although I have been pretty good at my food choices, I have definately had some set backs.

Here is my question....what is Dr. R's policy on the day of fill. Do I fast or can I eat Breakfast? My fill is at 4, and I can't imagine going all day with nothing to eat. Any suggestions? I was going to call him when the office opened, but by then I have been up for almost 4 hours and I have already started class. (It is almost impossible to get to the phone once my cherubs have come into the room.)

    Thanks,

    Michelle

  6. I live in a northern suburb of Detroit, Michigan.

I am coming to Detroit for Easter. But I am getting a fill on the Monday before. Can you tell me who your doctor is. I am worried about getting there and having a problem and not knowing a doctor to go to.

  7. Gibson,

I have been too afraid to eat anything solid. Today I called Dr's office, because I realized that I started solids a week early. The RN, said that it was fine as long as I as not sick. Then today we made biscuits at school. I took a bite and chewed it up really well. Then I took another bite, and something happened and I wasn't thinking about it, swallowed too big of a bite. WOWEE!! The pain was in my back. It hurt to swallow. Then I decided that I had to try to wash it down and tried to take some sips of Water. After a few minutes, it was better. They are not kidding when they said that I have to really chew my food! I guess it is one of those things that you don't really know where the line is until you go over it.

But I have to admit, last week, I bought Reese's eggs for.....well for me, but I tell people it was for my kids. Anyway, I ate one, really slow. Then I ate another. Then I hid it in my van. The next morning, I ate three of them. Thankfully, my son found them and put me out of my misery by eating the rest with his friends.

I told myself that it is just that time of the month, but the reality is, I can be a binge eater. Too bad we can't invent something to change that. We would be rich!!

  9. First, I want to say thank you for your prayers and concern. I really appreciate it. Things have turned out a little bit differently than I hoped. Because I was self pay for the surgery my insurance will not be covering any hospitalization or treatment. My hospital and ER bills are probably going to be around 7-10K and the treatment for the blood thinner which I have to inject myself every day for the next 6 mnths is going to be about $1000/mth. Don't ask me how we are going to do it. We are both students and have 4 young children. What I've learned is that blood clots are apparently very common under any kind of surgery, and once you have them there is no way of getting around it, you have to take blood thinner for atleast 6 mths or you could just drop dead one day. So I would encourage anyone thinking about getting the surgery is to have a back up as far as finances go, just incase. I didn't get the leg compressions with this surgery but I did have them with another much more invasive surgery 2 years ago, and I can't help but wonder if I had them this time if it would have made a difference. All they gave me for this surgery were leggings, that kept falling down by the way. So anyway I'm really not sure what we're going to do since we had to take out a loan to get the surgery. I guess I just want to say don't take the surgery lightly, even though it is very minimally invasive. I had to learn the hard way.

    Good Luck with your decision

Before you pay anything, you should check with a lawyer. I was told that although the band can be self pay, problems due to the surgery are not elective and the insurance has to pay.

  10. Thank you thank you thank you!! I am not a freak!! Here are only a couple of mine...

I cannot eat meat that I have ever touched raw. Not even after it is cooked.

I HATE nail files. Hearing filing or having my nails filed makes me sick.

I cannot look at my spoon or fork, or anyone elses when they are eating a dairy product.

  11. Mine was a little swollen too! But now I am three weeks out and although that spot is still a little bit bigger than the rest, which have gone down, and I no longer have any pain there. I agree with Sue, hot or red, call your doc. Otherwise, it will probably get better in a couple days!

Also, I just read somewhere that if you walk, then once a week, you should try to do a powerwalk so that your body doesn't get used to the same thing. I can't wait until it warms up. I hate walking in the snow!!

  13. Hi, I just recived my lapband Tuesday (2/26) and I am on day 2 of recovery. The gas pains have finally gone but now I feel the pain from the incisions. I have'nt been able to eat much well.... drink much. I just been sipping on gatoraid and Optifast drinks and pain meds. Is this normal?

That is almost exactly how I felt. I couldn't have anything except about a 1/2 cup of Water every hour for almost 5 days. I lived on popscicles and Jello. In the next couple days it will get much better. Plus, you will probably lose weight during this time.

    Congrats!! Its an exciting ride!!

  14. Has anyone sneezed/coughed and thought the world was coming to an end?:blushing:

Friday 2/22 I coughed for the first time and i was so not prepared(no pillow to hold)and I saw Stars, tears formed in my eyes! it was awful. All this pain went straight to my port site. Nothing else is hurting at all just the port. I still have major pain with every cough/sneeze. I cant WAIT for this to stop

When I got banded, I went into the hospital with a bit of bronchitis and a touch of pnemonia. I started coughing after being out of surgery for about an hour. I did that for about 2 weeks. My surgeon told me that I would be sore for about 3-4 weeks at my port site. But I think all that coughing got me over it.

Get better!!! liquids and rest!! (Sorry the nurse in me coming out!)

  15. Just checking in! I have finally reached that 269!! I have been trying for years now to see that and because of my super terrific band I have done it! I'm not even really trying all that hard and yet this morning (again) it's 269.0... How fantastic is it? Very!

I can only imagine the possibilities if I were to really tough it out for two weeks. Hmmm...

Keep the stories coming all, let us know how your doing!

Good for you!! I know how frustrating that can be to be stuck and then when you finally pass that little hump!! It is fantastic!! I have been stuck for a few days at 204 and it is making me crazy. Hopefully I will have some sucess soon too!! Have you had a fill yet?

  18. Wantolose155, Congratulations on your clearance. Monday will be here before you know it!

    To all my February bandsters:

I was banded on 2/11 and still am on liquids until 2/27. I also noticed that my food plan consists of only 1/4 cup of food even as I advance to all the other stages. Does anyone else have such a strict plan?

I am still supposed to have between 1/4-1/2 cup of food. But sometimes I think I just eat. And I do get full really fast. I noticed that people have said that your band will not work until your first fill. But I am already restricted, and I am two weeks out. I have a picture of my stomach as it was being banded and my band is so close to my esophogas, and just the band is restrictive. I have my first fill March 17th. For me, I am not sure that I am making really good food choices. I am just blending some of my favorite foods. And I love avacado, and I am not sure that is the best thing for me either. I think that I am going to start a food log. Maybe then I will know exactly how much I am eating.

This is going to take some time to get to know my new ways!!

  19. Yeah Megan!! It will be no time at all and you will be feeling like your old self!! Like everything, it has its ups and downs. I have gone from feeling full to being hungry to figuring out what makes me feel satisified. And that is only in 12 days. I have a lot more to learn. And pretty soon you will be where you want to be too!! Can you believe we are on our way to the new us!!

Get better, rest, walk and then let us know how you are doing!!
