  1. I'm currently in the pre-op stages of getting weight loss surgery. I have done all the pre-op tests and have been cleared to get a date assigned. The only thing now is that I haven't made the final decision to go through with this. The reason for this uncertainty is the following: I started to work on changing my eating habits and to work on nutrition and getting more physical activity in since back in January 2016. I have successfully lost around 120 lbs up to this month of September. My doctor and others have mentioned that perhaps working on losing more weight on my own with the habit changes I have been making should be something I should continue, and to post-pone surgery for a few more months to see how much more weight I can lose on my own. This is where I am stuck. I'm struggling with deciding whether to try to lose more weight on my own as I have been doing and wait several more months for the surgery, or to go ahead and proceed with setting a date and having the surgery done sooner. Anyone have any thoughts or advice regarding this thought process I am having? Did anyone have similar second thoughts or decide to wait longer before having surgery? Approved but scared.

I am having the same feelings as well. Been approved by insurance finally (no date yet) and will be having surgery by next month, most likely. I am also scared and nervous but also excited to continue with my weight loss journey. You're not alone in this. Stay positive and look to the future. Good luck with your WLS journey as well and keep us updated Sent from my LG-H830 using the BariatricPal App

    Protein selection

My favorite ones have been the Premier Protein products for sure. Others I have tried out and thought were nice in their selections were: Quest, Bariatric Choice, & AmBari Nutrition Sent from my LG-H830 using the BariatricPal App

    I'm too Fat

@@amf1025 - I'm sorry to hear about your experiences with some medical staff and facilities. I have had similar experiences and I can tell you that it has only made me stronger and more determined to move forward with this surgery. Being a very heavy guy myself (HW: 545, CW: 417, Height: 5'5") I have been hospitalized a lot for several health issues and have had some embarrassing and very upsetting moments with medical staff. I once wasn't able to get a CT scan because the table could not hold someone of my weight. It was upsetting and embarrassing but I have moved past that ordeal. Just know that you are doing this for yourself and to improve your health and life. I haven't had my surgery yet, either, and am still waiting on a date for approval. Good luck to you and keep your head up Sent from my LG-H830 using the BariatricPal App
  10. Hello everyone: I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice or tell me about there personal experiences with having sleep apnea and undergoing WLS? The reason I ask is because I have severe obstructive sleep apnea and have been using a CPAP machine for about a year now. I usually have trouble sleeping flat on my back so I have to sleep sitting up a bit reclined. I keep worrying that during surgery I may stop breathing or that the anesthesia will make me sleep to the point that I don't wake up again. Because I already have issues with breathing while sleeping, I worry that being put under could be a big risk and that things might be complicated somehow. Am I just worrying too much about this or is it something to consider? I would appreciate any advice or personal stories about this. Thank you for anyone that shares and helps to calm my mind a bit Sent from my LG-H830 using the BariatricPal App

    Sleep Apnea & Anasthesia

@@Bird Dog- I, too, am using Bi-Pap therapy because of my severe sleep apnea and it works better than the typical CPAP. I have been using BiPap for about a year now and it has definitely allowed me to sleep better. I will be sure to take my machine the day of surgery to use and hopefully things will go well. Thanks for sharing and hope all is going well with you Sent from my LG-H830 using the BariatricPal App

    Sleep Apnea & Anasthesia

Oh wow, I'm sorry to hear that you were having issues with your CPAP machine after surgery. I hope it is getting better for you. While you were off the CPAP and slept, did you have any discomfort or trouble sleeping? The reason I ask is because my sleep apnea is pretty bad and i noticed that if I take a nap or doze off into sleep without using my CPAP machine then I wake up feeling lightheaded and have a terrible headache. I guess I really do need to use it every time I sleep and I feel that not using it would only cause issues for me, even during the post-op days :/ Sent from my LG-H830 using the BariatricPal App
