    Emotional Eating...

I had started therapy a few weeks back for my food addiction and it's helped greatly. Now that I'm 2 weeks post op, I can see how food really played a huge role in my life...the good and bad.
  2. At my surgeons office, the nutritionist suggested that I buy vanilla Protein mix (Bariatric Advantage) as a base and then could buy sugar free extracts, like cocoa mix or syrups to make it less boring. Has anyone else used anything to add to their shakes to make it taste better? Thanks

    WLS Scheduled For 11*10*15

My surgery is on the 16th as well!!
  4. Anyone else have a November surgery date? I start the preop liquid diet on November 2nd and starting to get nervous!! By the way, anyone from Jersey?
  5. I have a surgery date of November 16th. So I'm between being approved and starting all my preoperative testing. One of my main concerns about getting sleeved is how I'm going to deal with handling my emotions. I have my MSW so I'm very familiar with therapy and helping OTHERS learn to cope with their emotions but I deal with mine through food. I have just taken my state licensing exam for the third time and failed. I have never been a strong test taker, mainly because I constantly second guess myself or I look too far into the questions are hand. I've been trying to deal with various situations without food because in a month or so I will no longer have that option to just go through a drive thru and order everything. Right now I just want to eat...everything because for the brief moment I'll feel better. Aside from therapy, how have you dealt with the aspects of emotional eating or even binge eating as a coping skill (pre and post op)?
  6. But his right was terminated legally, thus meaning he no longer has a right. The only thing he can know is how much money we have spent within the allowed expenses. The insurance company is sensing him information regarding the VSG surgery (which gives the full explanation including what all my medically diagnoses are) when they weren't supposed to. I don't know. I'm just frustrated because he hasn't tried to talk to me or my siblings in 10 years and my health problems are mine and mine alone. But thank you for your input! I appreciate it
  7. I more or less wanted to know if it was possible to sue an insurance company. Yes, my dad is the policy holder of the account but we are listed on the insurance. But as of 2 years ago we terminated him as our personal representative meaning he no longer has access to EOB, online access, bills, authorization letters etc. To me this is so personal because as I near my surgery date for VSG, I don't want it to be clouded by a man who isn't involved in my life. Last year when my sister had the surgery too and they sent him the approval, my dad sent her surgeon and the insurance company letters requesting that the surgery be denied due to the fact that my sister didn't ask for permission. Honestly who does that. I just don't like the fact that I've gone through all the trouble of filing the right paperwork and he still has access...and that the insurance company is ignoring what is on record. But I thank you guys for your input, I truly do.
  8. I have a question regarding HIPAA laws; is it possible to sue an insurance company for sending confidential information regarding myself to another party (my father, also policy holder of my insurance...whom I've had no contact with in 10 years) after its been alerted on the insurance companies system to only send information to my home address? Long story short last year around this time my sister had the VSG and her approval letter was sent to my dad. Yesterday I found out the same thing happened to me and the only thing the insurance company says, is sorry. I have fought for 2 years to terminate my dad as my representative and I successfully did that...or I thought I did. But is it possible to go after a big multi-million dollar insurance company for screwing up this big? I'm so frustrated because my dad willingly chose to walk out of my life and he doesn't get the right to know what's going on with me medically. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
  9. My surgery date is November 16th so I have a good amount of time before I start the pre-op liquid diet, but I was just curious to see if any one had a food funeral or what their "last meals" were? I don't know if it's just nerves, but I feel like I'm going to be missing out on so much because my relationship with food is going to be changing. For instance, I told my mom I wanted to fly to New Orleans to have beignets...or that I wanted to fly to California to try In and Out Burger for the first time. But I guess my other real question is the food that you gave up are you still able to have it in moderation? For the veteran sleevers are there foods that you could have years down the road vs one year post-op? Thanks

    New Jersey Sleevers?

I'm from Bergen Co too! My surgery isn't until November, just trying to connect with people before hand...hopefully get some pointers and tips! And of course words of wisdom!!
  11. My sister had her surgery with him last November and he will be doing my surgery this November too! Are you from northern nj?
  12. I'm having done with them (Hackensack only because of availability), but my sister had he's done last November out of Holy Name. Which doctor did you chose and when's your surgery date?
  13. Hi all - so as of right now I have a November surgery date (in the process of hopefully being approved by my insurance company). But what are some ways you all prepared yourself for the actual surgery and lifestyle change? My sister had the surgery done last November so I've lived with her and seen her experiences first hand but I'm always down for more advice. Someone told me to join a gym before surgery to get used to working out, and lifting weights to help with loose skin (in don't even know if that's true). Whatever advice you got, good or bad, love to hear it!! Thanks, Nicole
