  1. Hi all. Great to hear all the updates. Fish is a really good way to get in protein. I found salmon with mashed potato great. Any kind of fish goes down well in soft phase then oysters, prawns, crab etc great when full diet.
  2. Hey everyone! Great to hear the journeys! Welcome to the other side those who have had surgery recently!! Sorry I haven't been on much! Re: early weeks, fluid & constipation - for some reason a water bottle with a bit of sugar free cordial is much easier to drink than straight water. Always always carry a bottle with you. For protein that goes down easily, up and go energise is fantastic - easy to sip, fills you up and great shot of protein. Also Metamucil sachets that dissolve in water. Keep going gals!!! I've just had 3 month post op check up. 15kgs gone, 2 sizes down, much more energy. Can eat anything in small amounts. Started Zumba, easy to choose the stair option now. Feeling great. Those wound issues? Apparently the sutures they close under the skin were not cut close enough and keep breaking through. 120days til they dissolve - so 30 to go!!!
  3. Ifrit fantastic to see you through the other side!! Sip and walk, sip and walk. Your mantra for the next week. Froody, the food funeral gave me an extra 2.5kg to lose, and some amazing before photos!! Just be sure to stop when your preop diet starts so you give the surgery best chance of success and you will be ok. The weight will come off!! One minor complication I've had - wondering if anyone else has. My wounds still not fully healed 8 weeks on. I showed the surgeon last week and he said the internal stitch wasn't cut short enough so it keeps sticking through the skin - the skin layer was glued. He said they will dissolve 'eventually'. How long?? I have two spots that keep weeping! On a positive note, I'm down 14kilos!!
  4. That's a great idea Shotochick and one I'm sure the boys and my hubby would all get on board with!! Thank you thank you!!
  5. Good luck froody, ifrit & Naomi!! Your new life begins!!! 8 weeks post op today. Saw the surgeon yesterday. He is happy with my progress. I can eat anything at all now. Just small amounts. Now comes the challenge of working with this tool and making the right good choices and fitting in exercise to my life. I work full time with a 12 & 14 year old at home and a husband who travels a lot. As I'm already away from the kids 9-10 hrs a day I find it hard to book in more 'me time' to exercise. Need to do stuff with them I think. Any ideas??
  6. I love to say 'I've cut a lot of things out' - as close to the honest truth as you can!!
  7. I'm in Sydney, 7 weeks post op. 13 kg down (but yes should have measured, am sure I am losing cm). I'm one of the secret squirrels - not many know I've been done. My husband had gastric bypass in Jan. he has lost 33kg and diabetes - was on insulin twice a day. Keep the roll call going Did you get any reading material? My pre op diet requirements were in there
  8. Littlelucy welcome! You're doing well! I also have only told my husband and a few close friends - no one at work and not even my parents. All know I'm on a health kick. When people ask what I'm doing I say I've cut a lot of things out ????
  9. Shakes blended with ice are the way to go! It makes a large meal sized drink that's refreshing and filling!! I have found still at 7 weeks post op straight water is hard to drink so still adding sugar free cordial to my daily water bottle. My favorite kind of cordial is Bickfords diet lime - they also have diet lemon and diet lemon, lime & bitters!
  10. Hey all. Great to hear how everyone is going. I'm 7 weeks post op and can now eat a full diet again. Enjoyed a Caesar salad last night and a bit of steak on Saturday. Lots of chewing but no problem. My stomach really lets me know when I've had enough. The trouble is, it's often before my brain and mouth feels ready. It's a psychological game I think. Also I don't feel hunger, but do get an empty feeling sometimes. It's tempting sometimes to eat the carbs but they really fill you quickly then there is no protein in - which is much more satisfying. I have increased my exercise. Can't believe I've still only lost 13 kilos - thought it would be much more given that I was 10kilos down in 4 weeks. Anyone further along care to share when/ how the weight loss happened?
  11. Hi Newnetty! Welcome. Glad you've chosen to do your journey with us! The preop diet is hard but think of it as a small step towards your new life. I'm 5 weeks post op. Very frustrated by not losing anything much the last 2 weeks. Then again I've had a shocking flu and have basically been lying in bed. But for the amount I'm eating, I'd still expect loss. Actually kicking myself I didn't do a proper measuring as my clothes definitely all loser. In fact my biggest clothes just hang now. Jeans that wouldn't come near doing up are comfy again so I'm taking that as good signs. Hoping to get moving this week!! Starting today - up the coast for the long weekend. Already had a swim in the beach and in the pool. Getting some vitamin D. Eating wise I am still officially on soft diet and fish is my favorite but I've tried a bit of cucumber, soft chicken. Very tempted to dip some toast in a boiled egg but not going to push it that far. No problems at all - my tummy tells me when I've had enough. Anyone else had a stall of a few weeks??
  12. Hi BC. It will get better. Try a bit of cordial in the water. I still find drinking straight water hard. A little lime diet cordial in my water bottles helps
  13. Good luck BC. Nightmares usually don't come true. All will be well ???? You're doing great Shot!! How did that interview go?
  14. How are you going Shotochick?
  15. It really is the choice for a happier healthier future! We all need to remember what that extra weight does to us now - but also way ahead through old age. Re: varied recovery, I guess I was pretty lucky but I think going in with your eyes wide open - you're going to be sore the first couple of days. That wind pain is real. Walking as soon as possible helps it. Don't lie down completely flat in hospital ever. I just used the button for pain relief the first day - didn't get up to the loo til late in the evening - but by the early morning I could manage the pain without the button and because they can give IV Panadol that helped a lot. Tell the Anaesthetist that you are really worried about vomiting post op and he will make sure he writes up stuff for you to have if you are nauseous . I felt that the first day or two but not since. You can do it! It's a great step forward for your life. Good luck too Reetz you're this week too?!
