  1. I was banded a week ago, and I am having such trouble burping. Whenever I feel like I have to...I can't! And it HURTS! Its like burning in my chest. I mean truly, there is NO getting these burps up. And I am afraid to swallow too much air in efforts to get it up. Has anyone experienced this?:tt1:

    This Is Normal.....Right?

Songinmysoul: I am in the SAME boat - And I am about on the same timeline. I was banded 1/9/08 and had my fill about 2 1/2 weeks ago and go back on March 6th - I am STUCK at 16 lbs. Nothing else since my fill and a little before. I feel NO restriction - I know I can eat too much. I need the band to help me - I mean I did not get the band because I am good at CONTROLING my eating - I need help! Like everyone else here. I am at 2.4CCs in a 10 band - So, next time I go, I am going to ask for a VERY liberal fill. I don't care if I am miserable for a few days - its worth it if I start losing again. Feel free to Private Message me if you want to talk about it more - again - SAME SITUATION

    Is this normal??

Hi there, I just wanted to let you know that everyone is SO different. I was thinking that recovery was going to be a breeze, and I was not really prepared for the amount of pain I was in and how difficult it was for me to move around. My husband had to literally pull me off the couch for the first few days. Everyone handles it differently, However, I would be worried about the fever :/ Definitely call the doc
  5. Hi, if you are worried about not weighing enough, Drink lots of water -and eat some salty things - this will REALLY help you retain the water - that adds major pounds to the scale. Good luck!

    Saltine Crackers??????????

Hi there I have eaten crackers with NO problems. Once they are in your mouth - they get extremely mushy. I was fine - I would think you should be too. I am just 2 1/2 weeks out -
  8. Hi L.A. I just wanted to let you know that you can be on meds with the band. I have been on Cymbalta for anxiety and depression for over a year, and I still take it - I was banded just over 2 weeks ago, and I just open up the capsule and put it on the back of my tongue - so it can be done. I can definitely relate. This surgery really makes you stare your food problems in the face - whether its boredom, emotions, you really learn alot about yourself. I am SO sorry you are feeling down, are you still in pain?
  9. OMG! I know EXACTLY how you feel. HUGE HUGE HUGE wakeup call to hear severely obese. EEK. But we are on our ways to gaining control, just think of that.

    Cymbalta??

Hi there - I am on Cymbalta too, 60mg.j THEY CAN BE OPENED. All the capsule does is dissolve in your stomach anyway. It is NO different if you open it. All I do, is open up the capsul, put the granules on the back of my tongue and take a drink of juice. I cannot taste it at all! My doc said not to take the pill. I think I could without a problem - but I didn't want to try it.
  11. L.A. I am so happy to hear that you are doing good. I am just wondering if anyone moved on to mushies/soft solid foods after 11 days. I did really well on liquids for about a week - and then went to mashed potatoes, yogurt, pudding, etc. and did very well. I have not thrown up or gotten stuck once, So, I have bravely been moving onto a few other things. Like a crab cake, and some fat free beans. Has anyone else done this? I know Dr. K's main concern is that you don't throw up. The nutritionist has stricter guidelines, I know. Just curious. Mostly I am on full liquids and liquids, but i have had a few bites of softer solids and seem to be doing well.

    They Just Don't Understand

I'm sorry, but I have to interject about the "too young" talk. So many people who have this surgery, or gastric bypass, are so happy after and say "I only wish I'd done it sooner". Like those years spent heavy were lost or something. We know ourselves and know our bodies. We know if we have a problem with food and weight. These things happen as kids. I am young too, and one doctor told me I was a little young for such a drastic decision. I feel the opposite. Life is short - if you can do something in your power that you feel will make your life better, why wait? Especially when your health is at stake. Congrats on your decision football player. Obviously your girl loves you and it does not matter to her or she would not be there. You are lucky. I feel the same support from my hubby and its SO important. Good luck

    No Progress

Sorry, I agree with Angelica If you can force those things down - you can also get fat free yogurt, low calorie pudding, low cal soup and crystal light down. Anyone who ate mashed potatoes, chesscake, and Icecream would either gain or definitely not lose weight.
  14. Hi Brookie If there is any advice I can give - its to gather as much help as possible. If you have a husband or S.O. make sure he takes a few days off to take care of you. For me, the pain was significant - and little movements just hurt, ya know? If you have children, make sure you have someone to help take care of them too. I was banded on 1/9 and my husband took 3 weekdays off work, then a weekend, so he was there for me and my son. It would have been really hard to do things otherwise.
  15. I am here in Colorado. Its the most awful thing! My chest burns and burns and then it subsides. I have tried the GAS-X strips and they didn't work for me, I have not tried the milk of magnesia though. its just a weird feeling, not to be able to burp. Despite my best efforts, I cannot.
  16. I was given Keflex to take for 5 days after my surgery. Well, in the midst of everything, my husband and I forgot to refrigerate the antibiotics so, i stopped taking them after day 2. I kind of forgot about them. Well, its now day 6, and I am still in a significant amount of pain and I am wondering if maybe it is because I never finished the antibiotics. I am seeing my doc today, so I will be sure to ask him, but I am wondering if Everyone was prescribed antibiotics after surgery? Has anyone had to deal with any kind of infection besides the port? EEK

Eating my way to the qualifying BMI

Aww, don't do that to yourself - there are plenty of surgeons that will perform the surgery with lower BMI - (mine was) Co-Morbidities can be anything from sleep apnea to Plain old back pain, which I think all of us heavy people have. Also, if you can get your PCP to write a letter on your behalf saying that you would benefit from weight loss surgery and be less at risk for heart disease, diabetes, etc., that helps. hope this helps, good luck
  18. Hi everyone i just wanted to say that I saw my doc yesterday, and he said it was no big deal that I stopped the antibiotics, and he didn't write me another script or anything. for what its worth:)
  19. I was given Keflex to take 5 days after my surgery - well, my husband forgot to refrigerate it after day two - so I never finished it. (I was afraid it would not be good anymore) I kind of forgot about it, and it is day 6 and I am still in alot of pain - I wonder if its because I didn't finish antibiotics - I have my post-op later today, so I will ask my doc - just wondering if everyone was given antibiotics, or if anyone has had to deal with any type of infection??

    10:30 tomorrow morning!

I can COMPLETELY relate. Everything in my life is was going great except my weight - I have a wonderful husband, and a wonderful 2-year-old son. I had the SAME fears, I even told my family what my wishes were if something were to go wrong! Terrible, huh. Please do not worry, they would not put you under general if they did not think you were healthy enough for it. I know how you feel, you will be just fine, once its over a HUGE weight will be lifted at least thats what it was like for me. Good luck
  21. Dear L.A. Wow do I know what you are feeling like - I wanted to back out after they put the I.V. in my hand!! For me its the same thing, I know I can lose the weight if I torture myself, but only 5% of people who every lose a significant amount of weight through diet KEEP it off. I just want a good tool to help, so it can stop controlling my life. I used to be thin - and I swear, that was my whole life - working out and starving myself - Now I have a husband, a child, and a job - i want to be able to enjoy life without my weight controlling it. I feel and hope that this will give me the boost and motivation i need to make good choices and lead a healthier lifestyle Congrats to you, I will be thinking about you. Your surgery is at Aurora, right? Nice Place!

Preop diet - not losing due to period coming

Don't ask me why, but I did gain 2 pounds on my week long modified atkins diet - no bread, potatoes or rice - ( I cheated only once and had some sugar) Anyway, it did not stop me from having the surgery, my doc was not worried and everything went fine. I am on day 5 now. Don't worry:)
  23. Yes, Yes, and YES: I have been skinny, and obese - and let me tell you, the difference in the way you are treated is PHENOMENAL - and actually quite sad. When i was thin and attractive, life was a lot different, now that i am obese - I have seen it from both sides!
  24. Hi Everyone! Just wanted to jump in and give an update on my progress, and see if anyone had any input for me. I was banded on 1/9 and am still in a significant amount of pain. I don't have the Shoulder "gas" pain that has been talked about - but my stomach is KILLING me. It hurts to breath, walk, and I got the hiccups a couple times, I thought I was going to die! Every time I feel like I need to burp - it feels like my chest is on FIRE and then nothing comes! I know its only day 4 - plus I had my surgery in the afternoon - but I just thought I might be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel by now. I do not feel hungry, so wanting to eat is not an issue. However, my pain meds are not very effective - plus they make me a little nauseous :welldoneclap: I have to go back to work on Wednesday! I am so worried that I am not going to be ready - I don't want to spark any suspicion at work either. Anyone have any advise or input on the pain I am feeling? It feels like a big ball of fire in my tummy. More specifically, I guess its underneath my left rib cage - Oh, and where is my port? I have no clue. My incisions are bleeding a little under the tape - I assume this is normal. Thanks everyone - sorry for the long post - just feeling a little down. Thanks!
