  1. I'm a day shy of 3.5 wks post op (sleeved 5/9). My "puréed" diet has consisted of a variety of things - egg salad, tuna salad, chicken salad, salmon salad, poached egg, carrot curry puree Soup, Dahl with homemade Raita, Refried Beans with cheese, miso soup with tofu (no seaweed), etc. I've not had any tummy problems - especially if I eat slow and listen to my new tummy's satiety signals. I'm supposed to move on to soft foods next week (but sort of already doing that I guess). I'm interested in trying edamame (chewed well) and the meat from artichoke leaves. Thoughts?

    Nail polish/Acrylic nails

My surgeon wanted it all off. Not even clear polish on naked nails.
  3. First, big hug to you. I'm so sorry you lost your support. It is not uncommon to feel buyers remorse. But it can feel worse and overwhelming when you don't have support. Keep in mind (hopefully) this journey is about you and for you. It is unhealthy to be in a relationship with another person who doesn't support you. (I know, easier said than done.) So it's time to start over and be the best you can be for YOU. If you can find a local support group to get to when you're physically up to it, please go. They can be a source of great friendship and inspiration. You are not alone.

    Sugar free gum

I am 4wks post op and sugar free gum a week after surgery. It didn't cause any problems but I did notice an increase in movement of gastric juices as a result. Sometimes that's all it was but sometimes it made me go to the bathroom. Other times it allowed me to burp (which felt good). I am careful not to swallow it.
  5. Hi - I am 17 days post op, sleeved on May 9th. I know the topic is TMI but I need to ask. And I will contact surgeon tomorrow. So here goes,... Tonight, I noticed my urine was dark orange (more dark orange/brown towards bottom of bowl). In fact, I saw some of the darker parts falling to the bottom as I stood to check. I am concerned. For the day I drank at least 50oz of Water, just shy of my 64oz goal. For Protein I've been doing pretty well, but I know I could do better. What's also on my mind, is that I didn't have much of an urge to pee either after all I drank (and some of that was decaf tea). I did not have any colored foods (like beets or jell-o). I did have about 2 Tbsp of marinara. It had been 24hrs since my last Vitamin (and I opted to not take my Vitamins tonight so I could continue to monitor the color). I have NO fever or other symptoms (except for one of my incisions that hurts only when I bend - like the scab is coming off and tearing a bit). Doesn't seem related. Everything else seems ok. Thoughts? I will share what doctor/surgeon says after I speak to them tomorrow. Thanks!

    Strange Colored Urine?

Within 48 hrs of my first post my urine returned to "normal" behavior and has been so ever since - even when I was far short of my H2O goal I have not seen it that way again. I believe it was period breakthrough. Doctor not concerned. I will be 4wks post op on Monday 6/6 and doing pretty well. The usual struggles on GERD, daily intake of Protein and Water. Moving to soft foods (but sort of having them already). Chewing a lot. Eating slow. Small portions still 2-4 TBSP at most. Eating with baby spoons and forks. Trusting my body to tell me what's up, but still learning to listen and understand what my body is needing. All is good. Thanks all for input and care!!
  7. Ok so the weather is crazy hot. So I thought I would use a Water infuser for a refreshing change. In the chamber I can put watermelon, cucumber and mint. No sugar. No seeds. Natural occurring carbs should be minimal. If sugar-free fruit juice is allowed post op phase 2, shouldn't a fruit-only water-infused beverage be ok? Am I missing something? Your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!!

    OH THE GAS

Mine took like 12 days to finally subside. Besides walking, rocking, changing positions, you can also try dissolvable Gas-X.

    Strange Colored Urine?

To address above - not on antibiotics, I was not catheterized, have no UTI symptoms, and removed Vitamins so I could monitor color in true form. (Going back on the vitamins ASAP). UPDATE - I see both my PCP and Surgeon today. I will get a lab slip from my docs for urinalysis but it seems this might have been breakthrough bleeding from my period (which I was not expecting since I had it two wks ago). Given the trauma to my body and the hormonal changes I could be outta whack. It is not uncommon for my period to have a "sediment" look to it. But I don't know for sure. So I've been continuing to drink Water. This morning - when it should be concentrated - it was fairly diluted and no brown or orange or sediments. Bottom line, the jury is still out and I will continue to watch but I no longer feel a sense of alarm. Thanks all for your help & suggestions.

    Strange Colored Urine?

Thanks @Jea(n_n)ette. I appreciate the info. I am drinking as much as I can. Bring water with me everywhere. I've seen it when I've been dehydrated - dark to bright yellow. But I've never seen sediments or this color before. Thanks again for the reply! Will continue to drink....sip, sip, sip. [emoji97]
  12. I am 12 days post op. Able to have puréed foods in two days. Went out to lunch at a restaurant with my niece who just graduated college out of state. I had the broth of nebeyaki udon (one of the healthier Japanese soups) devoid of noodles and vegetables with just the broken yolk of two eggs mixed in. It was brothy and came to about a cup. I ate it and did not feel any discomfort or spasms or pain (usual sign when I've taken one bite too many). Have I stretched out my little pouch already? I thought 1 cup was closer to the amount of someone 6mos post op. Concerned.

    Stretched too soon?

    Thanks @mia150. Very interesting. [emoji846]

    Stretched too soon?

Thanks @KristenLe. I guess I made the best possible choice without doing damage. Thank you!!
  15. @Avertgirl - Remember me?? I'm now 9 days post op. I will be honest and say the pre op was the hardest part for me. And there were times I started to panic and question what I was putting myself through when I've "successfully" lost weight without medical intervention in the past. I got mad, sad and frustrated. But I realized I was indeed panicking and had to remind myself compassionately of the bigger (more realistic) picture. This is temporary. You will eat again - even though the future can be uncertain - for a period of about 6 months you will be going through some especially tough stuff. But you're strong. And from almost everything I've read and seen - it's so worth it. Keep the faith. And don't let yourself be sabotaged or talked out of it because of a little initial deprivation. Also I did not tell everyone either. Again, you are amongst friends.

    May 9th-13th sleevers

For me I need variety and lots of it in small amounts. When I wake up I try to drink water first - sipping 8oz water. Then I get ready / dressed and have a small something for breakfast with protein (4oz milk, instant breakfast with whey, 1/2 premier shake, or a few tbsp of cream of wheat with whey powder). A little at a time adds up.

    May 9th-13th sleevers

I've been averaging 30g protein but should get in more. Sources for me include Premier Protein shakes (split across the day), milk, using unflavored whey isolate powder in bream of wheat and sugar free instant breakfast or soups (1 scoop is 13.5g). Also I like Isopure Clear Zero drinks - ea 11oz bottle is 15g protein and a great way to get fluid in at same time. Found on Nashua Nutrition site. Grape frost is best flavor.

    May 9th-13th sleevers

Sleeved May 9. Since surgery lost 6lbs. I don't weigh every day cuz I am still bloated and distended. Between pre-op appt and surgery I lost 10lbs. Trying not to obsess about weight but instead focus on walking (only at 30mjns daily so far), protein (getting in 20g-40g daily vs 50g goal), and water (getting 25-50oz daily). More work to do. Total loss 16lbs as of yesterday.

    4 Days Post-Op Blues

I'm 8-days post op and still have a hard belly full of air despite walking, drinking, and protein. Otherwise I'm ok. Anxious. Fantasizing about puréed food. (There's a sentence I never thought I'd write in my lifetime.)
  20. Thanks @@sanjumelts!! I'm sooooo craving a burger!!! Excited to see this. Will try when I get to soft foods. Will be on puréed staring next wk. <sigh>
  21. Hey There - I am 1 wk post op and learning to interpret my sleeve's new signals. I am walking and mobile every day. I get in my Water and Protein - some days better than others (a work in process). And I've been fortunate not to experience any nausea, ongoing gas pains, or acid reflux, but have had some mild diarrhea. My belly remains quite swollen, tender to the touch, and hard. I know everyone heals differently, and the important role walking, protein and water plays in healing, but about how long after surgery does the belly start to feel "normal"? Thank you!!
  22. Hey There, My surgery is in two days (May 9) and I'm wondering what routine you had that helped, once you got home from surgery (like 2-3 days after getting home)? If so what did that routine that look like? Is that even realistic? Details welcome. Thx in advance.

    2/9 Surgery Date Team

Getting sleeved on May 9. Slowly starting preop diet. Haven't been perfect. My "cheat" last night was a serving of sugar-free chocolate pudding. Oh well. Today my stomach is gurgling like crazy. And it's not hunger. Did your tummy begin crazy noisy gurgling on the pre-op diet too?
  24. I am 47 Yes old and have finally received my date of surgery (May 9). I start pre-op diet on Apr 28. I'm close to 270 lbs at 4'10" and have been over 200lbs for at least half my life. Feeling overwhelmed. Going with my Mom to a support group at the hospital next week. I just want to make sure I have everything I need to be successful. And nervous how this will impact my work schedule (most days 12-15hr days). Ugh.
  25. Thank you. I need a bariatric KEEP CALM T-shirt.
