    Too big to fly?

I flew last month for surgery. I was 389 lbs and was worried I would need two seats. I found a killer deal on round trip first class tickets. The seats are wider. I sat comfortably and still needed the extender. Plus if you reserve the set behind the bulkhead, you get more foot room too.

    Very discourged

The infamous 3 week stall. It will pass. Look it from your body's point of view. Major surgery, still healing, and wacked out caloric intake changes. It's going to put the brakes on things until it figures out what is going on and adjusts. Keep with your program. It will be fine. I just broke my 3 week stall.

    Coffee

Depends on the Dr. Mine said six weeks minimum as it constricts the vessels and can interfere with healing. You know, there are these concentrated coffee thingies in the coffee aisle. I bought one. You put the tiniest of squirts into your drink and it gives it coffee flavor and a bit of caffeine. I tried it preop in my hot chocolate.

    What’s Your Restaurant Secret?

Soup and the appetizer menus are my typical go to's. I haven't been comfortable eating off someone else's plate (I'm not married). I am forthcoming with the waitress that my tummy is only thiiiiis big since surgery. Every waitress I've told has been extremely supportive. I don't think I would have a problem ordering off the kids menu but those aren't usually good choices either. I had hot wings appetizer last week and only managed to eat 3 wings, lol! lunch for the next day!
  5. My pre op was to shrink the liver as well. It was high Protein, very low carb, low cal, low fat = so not fun. You dropped some Water weight those first 4 days. The program was a Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch with a salad and 6oz of chicken or fish for dinner. If you were still hungry you could have a third shake. That. Was. It. No fruits, low carb veggies only, fat free salad dressing. If you want to reduce the size of your liver, you have to make your body burn the fat around the liver (the first place your body will burn it). That means carb count under 40g per day, fat as low as possible, calories as low as possible, and protein at 80 to 100 grams a day, and water water water. Normally, my doctor has patients do 2 weeks of pre op. I did 3 because I am extra fatassness. After surgery he told me that my liver was nice and small.
  6. Immediately after surgery for the first week I had apple juice, Water, and broth. Week two I introduced Protein by putting GENEPRO in sugar free hot chocolate and cream soups.

    Bathing

Don't use hydrogen peroxide as it will damage the tissues of your skin. I bought Hibclens from the drug store at the suggestion of one of the nurses and used gold Dial soap as well until the scabs were fully formed. Wash all over your body with the Dial and focus on the wounds with the Hibclens.

    Phentermine after gastric sleeve

I don't think it would be safe at any time, let alone after sleeve surgery. You didn't gain the weight overnight and it won't come off overnight. You can gain 3 pounds from Water retention. The water retention can be the result of too much salt, not getting enough fluids that day, or a hundred other things. I'm 5 weeks out and still fighting a flagging energy level. I'm still healing and my body is in shock from the surgery and the drastic caloric intake. Give yourself a break and get off the scale.
  9. My insurance doesn't cover bariatric surgery in any shape or form. I decided to do self pay in Mexico (way, way, way, way cheaper). I had my surgery on Oct 22, 2015 and had a fantastic experience.
  10. @@net0girl are you meeting your Water and Protein goals every day? Are you taking your Vitamins? Are you keeping your carb count down? Have you started your monthly? Have you started exercising (which can lead to a gain due to muscle gain)? Are you retaining water (watch your salt intake)? Are you taking measurements rather than relying on your scale? You are due to hit the famous 3 week stall. How much did you lose pre op? Read the thread "Embrace the Stall" and it can give you an explanation of what is happening. Stalls can be a good thing if you have stalled while doing everything right. The body needs to stop and reevaluate itself after weight loss.
  11. I live very close to the WA/OR border. When I spoke to my doctor, I asked her only if she thought the surgery was a good idea for me. I didn't tell her Mexico. She said she thought VGS was a good idea. I did a LOOOOOOT of research and chose A Lighter Me with Dr. Elias Ortiz. He is certified on the American Board of Surgeons and the chief of bariatric surgery in Mi Doctor Hospital. I had surgery on Oct 22, 2015 and would recommend A Lighter Me and Dr Ortiz in a heart beat. The hospital was clean, the staff was great, and the follow up care is wonderful. I made the decision to go with ALM when I found their Facebook page and followed it for a few months. After surgery I had an appointment with my primary doctor and brought a copy of my pre op EKG, blood work, and a video of my leak test. She was so impressed. She doesn't have another bariatric patient my size or one who had the VSG so she is very excited to be a part of my journey. I'm now down 44 pounds since I started pre op and she is thrilled.

I Am Thankful For My Stall

I think I just broke the dreaded 3 week stall today. I didn't sweat it during week and a half of so that I was on it because I knew it was coming. I am grateful for it because I can currently take off my jeans without unbuttoning them! It was definitely my body reevaluating and repairing itself. Look, considering the limitations to the amount of food I can shovel into my maw, the fact that I am making good food choices of what DOES enter my maw, and the calorie count needed to maintain my current weight, there is NO WAY I can do anything but lose weight. A plateau in the actual weight loss is no biggie. It will come off. In order to maintain my current weight I would need to eat upwards of 3,000 calories a day. That is simply not possible when you focus on your Protein and Water goals. Embrace the stall!

    Flying post op

I had a 5 hour flight (total) post op. I flew to Mexico to have my surgery and 4 days post op I returned home. I had no need for any special medication and instead just wore my compression socks from the hospital. Getting up to walk and stretch every hour of so helps too.

    Runny Nose!

How far out are you? I have heard from several people that they get a runny nose after they eat. For them it is a sign that they are full.

    Caffeine

According to my surgeon, Caffeine restricts blood vessels and can interfere with healing from surgery.

    Just wondering.

It's still high in carbohydrates. It is also a slider food for some people. Popcorn should be a rare treat.

    Sleeping

I slept in a recliner for the first week or so. When I moved to a bed, I put fluffy pillows under my arms like the armrests of the recliner. That seemed to help. Laying flat was not an option for me the first week.

    Is my Sleeve working?!

Oh, and many of the people who had surgery at the same place I went asked for pictures of the removed stomach during surgery. I didn't ask for mine, but I've seen some of theirs. Wooooow!

    Is my Sleeve working?!

Congratulations on the easy recovery. I was the same way. Believe me, when you start eating pureed foods, you will discover that restriction. My old stomach was made of hardened steel so it has been a bizarre experience having my sleeve bring me to my knees if I eat too much or too fast. I had to name her so when we argue, I have something to call her. Damn Runt.

    Same old issues

One hard boiled egg in the evening is my go to for late night cravings. It never fails make me feel full and reduce the severity of the craving. I keep several on hand.

    Curious

Sounds like you were pretty hungry and had the excess room to do it. I wouldn't stress about eating it that quickly as long as your sleeve isn't bringing you to your knees asking for forgiveness.
  22. I think I just broke my 3 week stall today. Weight loss isn't a linear process. You will lose and stall. Embrace the stall! It means that your body is recovering and readjusting to the weight loss. Mine lasted at least a week and a half. Stay off the scale, take measurements if you need that positive reinforcement. Make sure you are getting your target Protein and Water levels and relax. It will start again! I lost 42 lbs during preop and since surgery. It was time for my body to put the brakes on and reevaluate itself. You tend to lose inches rather than pounds during this time.
  23. Many people develop a signal that they are full. I did not develop mine until I started eating pureed foods in week 3. I never felt full drinking my fluids the first two weeks. The Water passes through the sleeve very quickly. I am in my sixth week. My warning sign of being full is that I hiccup once. If I hiccup twice, i've usually taken one bite too many. Some people have a runny nose, others hiccup like me, some have a combination of both. Eating slower has been the hardest part for me to learn. My sleeve (Runt) makes me pay dearly when I eat too much or too fast.

    Weight Gain 3 years out!

I agree, time go get back to basics. The five day pouch reset will help, but you MUST start making better food choices. Clearly you know what those are since you lost before. You are overeating due to emotional issues and speaking to someone about them may help you find a way to deal with those issues without overeating.
  25. Thanksgiving went well for me today. I had about a tablespoon and a half of stuffing doused in my gravy, a bite of mashed potatoes and gravy, and about two ounces of turkey. I was sad to miss out on my homemade cornbread and pies, but I didn't have a turkey coma like everyone else. I also went back to the fridge in the hours since dinner and grabbed more turkey to snack on. My sister (jokingly) warned me not to eat all the turkey when she saw me raiding the fridge a while ago. A fast reminder that SHE ate more than all the turkey I've eaten today combined at dinner AND I was making a good choice with turkey rather than eating stuffing or pie with ice cream. She shut up quickly and praised me for making good choices. LOL.
