  1. I know several people on here have named their sleeve, but I couldn't find an official thread. I've found that naming my sleeve has helped me get through the irritation of the healing process (I am 11 days post op). My sleeve is Runt. Her full name isn't for the faint at heart and is used on bad days (it rhymes). I felt bad yelling at my stomach, because pre surgery my stomach was a cast Iron fortress. I could eat nails and it would cheer for more. This new stomach is whimpy, whiny, and has *gasp* acid issues. That's unheard of pre surgery! Runt and I have the typical arguments that most new relationships have. Most days I can force her to submit to our daily Water and Protein intake. Saturday was not the case. Runt and I screamed at each other all day. She only wanted ice water, and I wanted to have my Protein shake and medications. I emailed the after care nurse to mediate for Runt and me. An extra dose of prilosec made all the difference today. It's a rocky road so far for Runt and me. So in the spirit of bring humor to those harder days, NAME YOUR SLEEVE! Dudes, it really does help.
  2. I am so excited that I had to share. I'm officially down 50 lbs since I started preop on 10/1/15! Now I just need to do it about 4 more times. LOL.

    Vitamins...yuck

I only used chewables until I was 6 weeks post op. I found a bariatric Vitamin in a capsule form that I've begun to take.
  4. I am a stomach sleeper. I slept on my back while in the hospital and when I got home, I slept in a recliner for several days. About a week after surgery I moved to my bed, but elevated my upper body with pillows. I also put pillows under each arm to simulate laying in the recliner. About a week later I was back on my tummy.

    Insurance will not cover

My insurance doesn't cover bariatric procedures at all. There are some surgeons that will do it at a reduced cost if paid in cash. However, I decided to go to Mexico. I found a reputable company with an excellent surgeon. It was far, far less to have it done there and I had wonderful care.
  6. You find them in the deli area next to the fancy cheese. They are small one ounce rounds of cheese that are individually encased in wax.
  7. Mini Baby Bel cheese saved me. I would eat one or two a day when the hunger was bad. Hard boiled eggs also do wonders for a sweet tooth.

    How Is This Possible?

My doctor's scale is 7lbs higher than mine at home. I loudly announced that MY scale is the official scale and it is obvious that my clothes weigh 5lbs. Because we all know that the only proper way to weigh is first thing in the morning, after the morning potty, and in your birthday suit. Dr. agreed.

    Sudden Food Intolerance

I agree that you may be simply eating too fast and your body isn't given time to give you that "full" signal. Before surgery I never ever felt full unless I was overstuffed (like at Thanksgiving). I made it a point to listen very very carefully to my body when I eat. I discovered I have developed a tic. When I am full, I hiccup/burp once. If I do it twice, I know that I've over done it and will be begging forgiveness from my tummy overlord soon. I call it my "full" button. The instant it happens, I now push my plate away so I am not tempted to nibble one more bite. Maybe you have one? Perhaps your nose runs, you burp, you get a certain sound in your tummy, some people sneeze...

    Does it ever get better?

Slow it down and accept that you have a new tummy overlord. All hail the tummy overlord. Although you may be permitted to have meat at this point, your stomach appears to disagree. Put it on the back burner for a few more weeks and try again. I know some people who cannot eat chicken months out. I could eat it at 6 weeks. Also, meats should have some sort of sauce on them to help them go down. Plain meats tend to upset the healing tummy. It DOES get better. I was desperate for meat one day and tried beef Jerky at 8 weeks. I just knew that it was going to be too rough on my tummy. Runt surprised me. I swear she sighed and relaxed when I tried my first bite. Oh, name your tummy. It really helps, especially when you two are arguing like now.

    Unsupportive family

@@lalajade, no you cannot win in that situation. If he wasn't supportive of the surgery, it would have been additionally stressful to have him with you at the hospital. You need support at that time, not criticism. Since he wasn't supportive before surgery, it is reasonable that he wouldn't be supportive while you were in the hospital. Now that you are post op, I hope that you both are able to move past this hiccup. However, his lack of support could be more than fear for you and may be a reflection of his insecurity in this relationship and your potential weight loss. Hope for the best and don't hide your head in the sand if it isn't.
  12. I wouldn't rule out Mexico! I had my surgery there, paid $4600 all inclusive except travel. For those who have a hiatal hernia, doctor will repair it for an additional $350 or so. I'm am so happy I chose Mexico!

    Dumped on Valentine's Day

Yup, just as the title says, I got dumped today....Valentine's Day. Thankfully, it wasn't a long term relationship or something that I had invested a lot of time into. However, that doesn't much help the feelings of rejection and profound disappointment. I'm almost 38 years old and have never been in a relationship. Ever. After so many years, I can't help wondering what is wrong with me. Yes, I know it is them, not me, but there's that evil little voice that says that when a pattern develops, there must be a common cause. Basically, I met a guy who was as close to fulfilling my "list" as possible. Incredibly intelligent (PhD and speaks 5 languages), gorgeous, funny, sweet, etc. Most importantly he was clearly attracted to me. That's a first for me! After talking for several days we decided to try a date. It. Was. Amazing. We met for coffee and ended up enjoying a long walk in a park. Instant chemistry, good conversation, neither of us wanted a casual relationship and wanted to find a serious relationship, etc. We made plans for a second date. Between the first date and the second date, I think he got scared. I don't think he was expecting to like me so much and he freaked. I was texting with him last night to confirm our second date and he broke things off. He said that he was only looking for a lunch buddy (we met on a dating site). I would like to consider myself a catch. I have no children, no ex-husbands, am capable of participating in an adult conversation, and am a giving soul. Sigh, back to the drawing board and time for some inner reflection of what I did wrong.

    Dumped on Valentine's Day

I don't care if the gentleman in question has children. At my age, it should be expected and I love kids. I simply haven't been as fortunate as many others to have that opportunity. The gentlemen in question on Valentines day is divorced with twin 11 year old girls. I am trying to not let it get me down, and really after that first night it hasn't bothered me - it's almost funny. I don't have much experience with dates at all - less than a handful my entire life. My former weight had much to do with that and certainly caused some stout self-esteem issues. This is all stuff that people learn as teens, but I did not. I acknowledge my issues and am trying to change them. I don't think dating multiple people at once is a possibility right now as I can barely get one date with one gentleman LOL! I have you lovely people here, my family, and a few friends who are ready to strap on their boots for some butt kicking and that just makes me grin. Onward to bigger and better.

    I hate vitamins

It works well in cream or milk based soups like clam chowder or cream of chicken.

    Discouraged ????

Agreed, scales fluctuate terribly. I was at the doctor last week. My scale is my "official scale" and showed 80 lb loss. I went to my appointment and her scale showed 7 lbs higher. I joked with the nurse that clearly my clothes weigh 5lbs and the only proper way to weigh is butt nekkid and after going to the bathroom. My doctor walked up behind me, hearing my comment, and said "and before you eat!" Agreed, scales fluctuate terribly. I was at the doctor last week. Denied for lack of effort?

I did preop for 3 weeks before surgery. High Protein, low carb, low calorie, low fat. Basically a Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch, and a salad and 6 oz of chicken breast or fish for dinner. I lost 21 lbs during that period of time. It sucks, it's limiting, but it may get you to where the insurance company wants you to be. You have time.

    DENIED---PLEASE HELP!

I hope plan B works for you. If not, Mexico is a wonderful alternative. My insurance wouldn't consider covering my surgery at all and my bmi was 57. So I did some solid research, found a respected company in Mexico and paid out of pocket.

    I hate vitamins

I despise Protein shakes so my go to is GENEPRO Protein powder. I add it to foods like hot chocolate or milk based Soups. It's whey protein so it works best with milk based products. One tablespoon is 30g of protein. For the first three months that was my main source of protein since I could eat so little.

    I hate vitamins

Which Vitamins are you taking? Check and see if they contain Iron. Many people, myself included, couldn't tolerate vitamins containing iron. It made me vomit nearly immediately. I changed to another brand made for bariatric patients and have had no trouble since.

    Dumped on Valentine's Day

Dumped is the wrong word. Rejected is probably more accurate. Today I'm back in my groove and ready to move on. @@CowgirlJane, that is terrible! What a mind screw.

    Dumped on Valentine's Day

I absolutely agree. Luckily, he wasn't "my first" as we didn't get to the point of a relationship. I am licking my wounds tonight and will be raring to go tomorrow.

I truly don't believe that was the case. Is it possible? Yes.
