@@dhrguru Ketosis is something I did not think about! I woke up this morning with the worst taste in my mouth and couldn't figure out for the life of me what the heck it was - I brushed my teeth before bed! Ketosis explains it! Thank you for bringing that to my attention @@kevmasci Hi! Welcome to BP and good luck on your revision! I don't know if you're allowed pudding on your diet, but sugar free rice pudding (Jell-O Brand) saves me on my pre-op diet! I though it would be gross but I was dead wrong and it has been one of my favorite things about this diet, and the unsweetened applesauce! My surgery is next week and I am full of nerves, but I know that the rewards outweigh the risks so I start thinking positive and remind myself that I'm choosing to save my life and I calm down. I trust my surgeon, I trust his staff and I know I'm going to be ok. Keep your head up and know that we're all here for you xo

@@funkecoldmedina HOORAY! Congratulations, that is such great news!!! I can't wait to hear when your actual surgery date is!
  5. Well, I'm at exactly one week liquid diet and realized that I have not been using enough Protein powder in my shakes. When the dietician was talking to me about Protein Shakes, she kept saying "put a scoop in some almond milk" and I obviously did what she said instead of reading the directions, so shame on me. Something prompted me to read all of the ingredients today and basically one serving is 2 scoops. I missed that. Completely. And surprisingly enough, the shakes taste a lot better now that I've used the right servings for once. LOL I really hope this isn't a sign of more failures to come. I feel really really stupid today for not noticing that before. Thankfully, surgery isn't until 9/2 so I have a few more weeks to redeem myself! Has anyone else ever done this?

    Waiting and anxious

@@chasingchloee Hello Congrats on coming this far!! Have you thought about calling your insurance to see where things stand?? I was told that mine would take that long, and the day after it was submitted I called and to my surprise it was approved!! Shortly thereafter I got the approval letter in the mail! You should give them a call and see what you can find out to at least help ease your mind! Good luck and let us know! xo

@@WendyA YOU'VE GOT THIS!! Do not let the psych eval "psych" you out!! It will be ok Even if the psychologist felt like you had other things to work on, I don't think it would deter you from getting surgery, it would just mean you might have to go to counseling or something of the sort (of course, every insurance is different). I'd try not to worry too much about it and just go in and do your thing, be you and be honest!

@@Paula Kolarik All of those worries & concerns you have are normal I think! I have them too. I definitely have worked hard to get to this point and to be given this second chance is amazing. I can only hope and have faith in myself that I will not screw it up this time around! This isn't going to be easy, but it's going to be worth it! Just think of all of the things you'll be able to do that you can't do now, even if it is something as simple as bending over to tie your shoes or painting your toenails. Use these positive thoughts as one way to help keep you motivated to stay off the path of old habits and I think you'll be just fine!! @@WendyA Hi! Congrats on making it this far and for making the decision to go down the WLS road! My Psych eval seemed pretty cut and dry to me, but I've read other stories where the visit was awkward or horrible. I had to answer a 300+ questionnaire (some of the questions were downright strange and repeated in different ways) and then I met with my psych for about an hour. He asked about my family history, eating / diet habits, job, lifestyle and support system. It was a really quick hour and he signed off on my surgery while there. He even faxed it over to my PCP before I left. It went pretty smoothly. Again, you'll read stories on here of people who had really bad psych evals and some that had easy evals, so don't let anything scare ya! I know its easier said than done, but try not to be nervous and go in with an open mind and a positive attitude and I'm sure you'll be just fine xo

@@Anxious2beme Sorry for the delay in response. For some reason, I am not being notified when I am mentioned in posts so I'm checking my notifications to make sure I didn't actually shut something off. Yes, at the time of my post to you I had 2 weeks left for surgery. I am now at exactly one week out. Are they not sending the letter yet because you still have a pending appointment in September? Feel free to send me a message at anytime if you'd like to talk, I'm an open book for the most part
  11. @@bhopeful Hello! Everyone's requirements are different based on insurance/surgeons, but I had to do the following: 6 months of consecutive weigh ins with PCP and/or Nutritionist 1 Surgery Seminar, 1 Diet Class, 1 Support Group (Surgeon requirements) A Psych Eval Nutritionist Consult An Upper Endoscopy A gallbladder/abdominal ultrasound A Pap Smear A Chest XRay (done closer to surgery date because they expire) An EKG (also done closer to surgery date because they expire) Blood Work - a lot! H. Pylori breath test I did as many of these prerequisites as I could as early as I could, and kept only the Xray and the EKG until the end. I am scheduled for surgery on September 2nd. It was a long journey, but I'm finally at the end of the tunnel I also started the liquid pre-op diet two weeks earlier than scheduled to be as proactive as possible with liver shrinkage and pre-op weight loss, and am down almost 19 pounds. Probably more since my last weigh in on the 17th. Good luck on your journey! Can't wait to hear how things progress for you

What Are Some Things You Can't Wait for POST OP?

These are all great things to look forward to. I think my top five are: 1. Having more energy to keep up with my three boys and husband 2. No more GERD! 3. No seat belt extenders on an airplane (I travel to FL once or twice a year to see my best friends and dread it every time!) 4. Buying smaller clothes and not having to shop at Lane Bryant where you leave broke nine times out of ten. 5. food. I don't care what my first bite of real food will be, or how small my portion is - one bite is better than 0! (can you tell I'm tired of liquid diets already, and I'm still pre-op?? LOL So happy for everyone and wish everyone the best of luck on their WLS journeys!! xo

  16. @@kmc0812 Umm I've been an emotional rollercoaster since I got a surgery date! LOL The one downside to being on this diet is that I have no energy. I can do my daily walks, and chores, but once all is said and done I am POOPED. I find myself falling asleep at the most random times of day. This makes me cry, because I feel so tired all the time. Then there's all of the fears & worries I have of surgery. I know the rewards far outweigh the risks, but the sheer realization alone that this life changing thing is going to happen to me is scary and exciting all at the same time and this makes me cry. Then there's worries about post-surgery problems, physically and emotionally and mentally. This makes me cry. Then there's worries about relationships with people changing after surgery, this makes me cry. Then there's commercials on TV that I normally wouldn't cry at, but now I'm crying. I think I'm just hungry. LOL But seriously, what you're going through is normal I think. I'm still pretty new at this myself but have read so many posts on here that make me feel so much better. Everyone on here is supportive and informative and welcoming. It has made this journey for me so much easier knowing that I am not alone, and even after all is said and done, I can still come back here for help & support. Keep your head up! You're stronger than you think! xo

    One month surgiversary

My surgery is next week, on the 2nd, and this post makes me so excited! I have had a lot of worries and "what-if" moments, and your post made me smile and realize that they will all be worth it in the end. Thank you for sharing your progress thus far! xo
  18. @@kmc0812 Congrats on your surgery! I am one day before you, 09/02! I have been on LSD (too funny!) since 8/05 and will continue to be on it until I get closer to surgery. I decided to start earlier, with the approval of my surgeon and dietician, to be proactive with pre-op weight loss on top of liver shrinkage and have lost nearly 19 lbs. I haven't cheated, aside from licking Peanut Butter off of my finger after making my kids a sandwich, if that even counts! LOL The first few days of this diet were the worst for me. I had a mild headache and was really crabby and really just hated life. Now, it is really a piece of cake. Anytime I got a craving for a bad food, I would just reach for an approved vegetable off of my list. Cucumbers w/ balsamic vinegar have been lifesavers as well as Water with sugar free strawberry lemonade flavoring (I got at Target - Market Pantry brand, but there are so many options everywhere!) And like someone else said, walking..just keep walking! I wish you the best of luck @@gonnadothis We share the same surgery date, congrats!

    One step closer!

That's too funny! If I had a daughter, I would probably do the same thing! I actually just bought myself my first XL t-shirt as a goal shirt. I'm sure I won't be in it for long, but I didn't want to start too low and get disappointed if I couldn't fit into it right away. I just had my final pre-op surgeon visit today and my last Dietician appt yesterday so I'm all ready to go! I'm going back and forth a lot but I know it's just surgery jitters!

Pre Op diet weight loss amount?

@@GBLady41 That sounds pretty similar to what I'm doing, too! I do 4 Protein shakes a day and then I have a list of approved vegetables. My menu is usually like this: Breakfast: Protein shake Mid-Morning Snack: 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce Lunch: Protein Shake Mid-Afternoon Snack: SF pudding or Jell-O Dinner: Protein Shake, 1/2 cup of low sodium approved Soup Before Bed Snack: Protein Shake And then if I want to have a veggie at any time (i've been sticking to cucumbers, broccoli and green Beans mostly..maybe salad here and there) I can, as I can eat those freely. I can also allow myself a SF popsicle if I want to, but I really dislike the taste of them. And obviously, I drink a ton of water!! I got some SF Water flavoring from Target (their Market Pantry brand) and really like it! Sounds like you're on a similar path as me! Good luck on your journey!! xo

Pre Op diet weight loss amount?

Hi @@mishi! I started my pre-op diet a month before my surgery to be proactive with weight loss and liver shrinkage and today was my two week checkup and I have lost 19 pounds! I will be on the same diet up until 24 hours before my surgery, so I anticipate losing even more prior to my surgery date. Everyone's pre-op diet is different, and everyone's pre-requisites are different too. Some people have to lose weight before their surgery and some people don't. I didn't have to, but I wanted to be as successful as possible after surgery so any weight I lose before hand will definitely be helpful. Keep up the good work, doll! xo

@@Anxious2beme Everyone's appointments are different but I'd be happy to share my experience. My first surgeon appointment was on 8/6 and it was a great appointment. He introduced himself and told us a litle bit about who he was, where he went to school and how long he's been doing what he's doing. He then asked me questions about my lifestyle, my eating and dieting habits and what brought me to my decision to pursue weight loss surgery. He then had me stand up, lift up my shirt to help him better understand my body and how my weight was distributed and then we talked about my options. He told me he would be ok with doing the RnY or the Sleeve, but recommended doing the RnY because I had a lot of weight to lose and believed I would be way more successful with it, so that is was what we chose. He spoke a little bit about the procedure, but since I had already attended his seminar I was aware of how it worked and the changes he'd be making. He then made me promise that after he performed the surgery, that I didn't ruin it by having hot sauce or wasabi or anything like that. LOL I see him again tomorrow for my Family Visit /Post Op Instructions and I can't wait to see him because he was so personable and friendly and really made me feel like I'll be in good hands! 2 weeks to go for me! I'm sure your appointment will go swimmingly, too! xo
