3 weeks post-op and not losing weight!
I'm going to second pretty much everything @@miiasan said. Eating less can actually put your body into starvation mode and make you gain or stall. Your body has been through a HUGE trauma and it needs time to level out. Right now evrey part of your body is freaking out trying to restore the balance that's been thrown off, or heal the incisions in your skin, muscle, and organs. Be patient. I have PCOS and a bad metabolic resistance as well, and I lost very slowly at first. Once it started picking up, I often lost a pound a day, or close to it. Now I'm stalled again for the past two weeks. But I know it will pick up again. Us ladies with PCOS just have to deal with even more issues preventing us from losing, even after surgery. But you WILL get there. I'm less than 4 months out and I'm almost 70 pounds down, and it feels like it snuck up on me. I think back to my first month, and second, and how discouraged I was that I was losing so freaking slowly. But soon it won't even matter to you. Just get in all your Protein, Water, and Vitamins, and you will succeed. Also be prepared to possibly recover a bit slower than others. I healed quickly but I'm still in the phase where I get tired easily. It's slowwwwwly getting better. I know it's hard, but try not to stress about it.

Hello from Ontario! Almost there!
Welcome Parm! I had my RNY in mid-August. If there is anything I can do to help you, don't hesitate to ask. This is a great resource full of awesome people.

How long before I can snowmobile?
I'm guessing it's at least a couple weeks before you'll even feel up to a long snowmobile ride. I think this is probably something you're going to have to ask your surgeon about and listen to your own body. Sounds like a really fun trip though.

Piggin' out ????
A lot of people, myself included, have a sort of food funeral before the preop diet. It's perfectly normal to be aware that there are foods you won't be able to eat for a long time after surgery or ever again and to want to eat those foods as one last hurrah but believe me, you'll want to take it easy. The more crap you put into your body right before you "de-junk" on the preop diet the harder it's going to be and the worse you're going to feel. Especially if these are very carby or surgery. Caffeine is another thing to be careful for. The withdrawal has been awful for some people who drank it regularly and then had to stop. Not to mention, the whole point of the preop diet is to prepare your body for surgery. So depending on what you want to be pigging out on, just be careful. Most likely maintaining discipline now would help you a lot when the real hard part comes. Honestly sometimes I wish I had eaten a whole 6 pack of ramen noodles by myself before surgery, but looking back now I'm really glad I didn't. Dealing with the changes that come with surgery takes mental fortitude and stamina, and putting an addictive substance into my body in large amounts right before having to give it up forever would have just been unnecessarily cruel to my body and my mind. My "last meal" was a bourbon street chicken and onions with red skin potatoes at Applebee's.

what's your fat habit?
@@Warriorgyrl I'm still over 300 pounds, so our experiences are probably going to be vastly different, as I started far heavier than you. It's taken me about a year to lose 120 pounds. I've lost about 80 of those pounds in the last 4 months. It's been a real journey. XD

Finally got new bras!
@@liannatx that's true. I know how taxing on the body having big breasts can be. I suppose I just wish I could have kept my high Cs. Then again, I barely recognize my body at all anymore, so I'm going to have to get used to a lot of big changes.

what's your fat habit?
I always give myself SO MUCH room when I push a chair out to get up, or open a door and walk through, or if I'm carrying something bulky. I keep thinking there is an extra 120-pounds worth of me but it's not here anymore, so I sometimes feel like I'm accidentally paranoid about bumping into things even though I have a ton more room than I now need.

Which Weight Loss Surgery Blogs Do You Read?
I also really like https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYSpwzYZVMq2DWYaEY6otXg Her name is Melissa or Mellie May. I watched every single on of her videos before surgery. It took days but greatly decreased my anxiety. Now, after surgery, I enjoy her videos because she holds giveaways and is very honest and open about life after her RNY. She's a great resource and very nice. I have her friended on Facebook.

Which Weight Loss Surgery Blogs Do You Read?
The World According To EggFace is my favorite! She is so down to earth and forthright with everything. She also obviously puts a ton of time, effort, and love into her blog, and really wants to help people by offering all of her experiences. The good, the bad, the ugly and the awesome!

Do You Attend Support Group Meetings?
My hospital bariatric center holds one every second wednesday of the month. There's one coming up this wednesday. I love going to them and always feel inspired and comforted when I go to them. I started a month before surgery and have gone to every meeting since. Lucky for me my hospital is about 45 seconds drive away from me, just two blocks. XD

Finally got new bras!
I seem to be one of the few heavy women who never had a large chest. I don't think I've ever gone over a D, possibly never even made it to a real D, and 120 pounds later I'm a B. I've still got about 150 pounds to go... I'm going to be part of the itty bitty titty committee by then. Oh well!

20% Long-Term WL?
Oh man, I wish I hadn't read this. I've lost almost exactly 25% since surgery and I've been stalled for weeks.... and I'm still 320 pounds. I don't really think I'm done losing but there's a tiny little part of me that's panicking. >.>

PCOS and cramps from the depths of Hell
@@jane13 I'm currently sitting with a heating pad, which seems to help a bit, but I seem to remember my surgeon saying "no midol" so I'm not even sure what I could take that would actually help this. What do you take? When you gain some pounds, does it feel like Water weight? Or it is your hormones being crazy and are you actually gaining weight?

gender bender..
@@WLSResources/ClothingExch I only use "cis" when I need to qualify that a person is not trans. The majority of people are cis to begin with. To me, it's like going to the store and seeing a huge pile of bananas, and one purple banana. Instantly, you know the rest of the bananas are yellow/green. Since purple is the rarity, I call it a purple banana, instead of just a banana. That qualifier is necessary for trans people because we are slowly moving into a place of social acceptance and understanding but we aren't there yet. It's still a unique thing to be trans. Sometimes you just need a word to express what you mean to others, and "cis" simply means not trans.

PCOS and cramps from the depths of Hell
Hello ladies! I had my RNY almost 4 months ago and I've lost almost 70 pounds since then. Part of the reason I chose RNY is because it has been shown to reduce the symptoms of PCOS more than any other weight loss surgery, and the thought of my awful symptoms reducing is incredibly appealing to me. My question here today is 3-fold: Did any of you with PCOS notice a change in your symptoms for the better or worse? How far out were you when these changes began? Did your PCOS affect your weight loss in any way? I've had two periods and one really weird spotting incident since surgery. Both periods have been painful beyond anything I've experienced. I woke up this morning with the distinct feeling that someone is rubbing a cheese grater against the inside of my uterus. I'm hormonal, weepy, and craving huge amounts of food for the first time since surgery (which I obviously cannot, nor do I want to, give in to). I also believe my stall, which has been going on for 2 weeks, is from my strange hormone imbalances. I have an appointment with my PCOS specialist in just a few days, but I would really like to hear some of your experiences. This is so, SO not fun at all. Thanks for listening to me whine. I hope some of you can offer me some advice or experiences.

Just got my surgery date!

gender bender..
I'm pansexual. For those who don't know the term, it's like being bisexual, only it goes beyond liking either male or female. It's the possibility of attraction to male, female, trans, crossdressers, genderfluid, agender, etc. Basically, a pansexual can feel attraction to literally the entire gender spectrum. I personally have always been attracted to trans women especially for whatever reason, though I'm happily dating a cis-gender guy (cis just means he was assigned male at birth and identifies as male). 20 years ago, someone saying what I've just said would have been unheard of, not to mention extremely socially taboo. I think equal rights and social acceptance are all a matter of exposure and experience. Humans need to experience something to really understand it, by nature. It's understandable that your first encounter with a trans person may be slightly disorienting but the fact that you understood and didn't feel the need or the right to be cruel in some way means we've come a long way as a culture. Gives me hope for the future, while we hear about trans people getting killed daily just for trying to be who they are.

The effect of WLS on you knees!
Very interesting, though not entirely surprising. I have an old knee injury that I recently found out is going to have to be fixed with a big surgery, and soon, but I've noticed a definite decrease in aches/pains in my knee joints since losing 120 pounds. And I'm still over 300! I can only dream about how much better I'll feel when I hit goal weight. Thanks for sharing.

Never Gets Old
This is my first fall/winter after wls in August. My weight loss started early this year. So this time last year I was the heaviest I've ever been, and now I'm over 120 pounds less than my highest. I'm experiencing the super-happy annoyance of having no warm clothes that fit me for the first time ever. For me, it was basically my experience since puberty started at 10 years old that I could pretty much expect to need a new coat and new wardrobe in general every winter. This year, my wardrobe consists of lots of cheap leggings, and layers of too-big hoodies. Even though this kinda sucks and worries me for financial reasons, I just can't feel in any way upset about it.

Finding mental/emotional balance...
I'm about 3.5 months post op and I feel the same way. I think it's because I see light at the end of this difficult road. It's been a long time since I felt hope for my future, and now that I'm regaining my health and my life, I can once again see all the wonderful possibilities that await me.

Preparing for surgery
i made a list of all the things i knew i could be looking forward to. improving health, more energy, longer life, clothes that fit, rising self esteem, fitting my ass in the seats at my college... the list goes on. I would read or remember the things on my list when i felt worried and it renewed my bravery and determination. Hope it helps.
