  6. I saw in your post that you used Dr.Ortiz, what did you think of him? I am thinking of going with him. thanks, lori
  7. No one in my life is supportive of me going to Mexico for the lap band. My insurance doesn't cover it so I can't afford it in the states. I feel so alone.
  8. If you don't mind my asking, what did you think of Dr. Ortiz and his staff/facility,etc? He is one of the physicians that I am considering.
  9. Free surgery is in WV where i live and work as a nurse. Have heard mixed reviews on the surgeon (i have never needed to use him for anything in the past) but have never heard of anything really horrible like he killed someone or cut off the wrong part.lol. His proctor is really experienced and is from Kentucky.
  10. If given the choice, would you have the procedure done with a surgeon who has never done one (but would have a proctor present) and it be free of charge or would you go to a surgeon who has performed thousands and be self pay??? ($8500 in mexico):help:
  11. I'm thinking of going to mexico too. I work in a hospital and one of the surgeons here is going to start doing them. I would be his first. He would have a proctor there to oversee but still scares me. But it would be free. So right now i'm weighing the options. do i go with the surgeon whose never done one and have it be free of charge or do i go to mexico to the surgeon who has done over 5000 procedures and get a loan? HELP!!!!
  12. Jeremy-I am a Registered Nurse and researched the options for over a year. Through my experiences as a nurse I personally would never have gastric bypass. You will have to decide what's right for you. I reviewed many, many research studies. I have taken care of many bypass patients. Some have died. What you are experiencing is normal. This is a big decision. I have co-workers also that have had bypass. It would have to be life or death for me personally to ever choose bypass. Remember too that the band is reversible and you could choose to have bypass later if the band does not turn out to be the right choice for you. Please, please look at the statistics for both before you reach your decision. Look at the morbidity rate for bypass. Having all the facts will ease your decision. But remember, it is your decision and your body.
  13. Rarely does breast cancer cause leaking in both breasts, other possible causes include: pituatuary tumor(relax, they are hardly ever malignant) some medications (most common antidepressants) especially when you stop taking them. Or just hormone imbalance. Some women's hormone's are controlled by there weight. I could not get pregnant and tried for 2 years. Finally when i went to a fertility specialist he told me to loose 10lbs and I would get pregnant. I lost the weight and sure enough got pregnant. He explained the whole connection between weight and hormones. I had bilateral nipple drainage last year. Scared the crap out of me! Ended up it was because I quit taking anti-depressants. Weird, huh. It is a good idea though to have them send a sample to the lab. Good luck.
  14. Hey guys, can anyone tell me where to find optifast?:help:
  15. where did you buy your optifast? Cant find it anywhere.
  16. Hello, my surgeon wants me to complete two weeks of Optifast before my surgery at the end of this month. The closest place to get optifast brand is 100 miles from me. (although i've seen some on ebay). I was wondering if anyone out there used something different. A nurse in his office told me that as long as it's comparable it would be fine. Maybe some of you could help this newbie out by sharing with me what you used before your surgery and what you thought of it. Thanks a bunch!
  17. Let me know how it goes with your surgeon. You have a leg-up having your sister's knowledge and experiences.
  18. I live in Vienna, WV. Not sure where Summerville is...will have to check map. Who did her surgery? I'm an ER nurse and our hospital is just becomming accredited to perform the procedure. As of now I am going to be their first lap band patient. Scares the crap out of me to be the guinea pig but my insurance doesn't cover it. I agreed to be their PR girl if they waived the cost. There will be a proctor (very experienced at the lap band)overseeing the procedure. Great to meet you. We're all in this together!!! Thanks for the reply.
  19. <p>Happy New Year! My name is Lori and I am going to be banded at the end of this month. I am soooo excited. Ready to begin a new chapter of my life and start living!!!!
