Yes there is hope I would smoke a pack in about two days. It's not easy very tough but once you get through.this you'll feel accomplish I'm in my 5th month not smoking. What I used to chew on when I was craving is called Licorice root. Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk

Jrenae00 got a reaction from kyboo1972 in Gastric sleeve with hypothyroidism
I just got approved yesterday. I also have hypothyroidism. The surgeon office said at the beginning that my thyroid needs to be stable with medication, mine always has. I am also on a fairly low dosage though. My family DR. told me that as long as you are on the correct dosage of medication and routinely get your levels checked, you can lose weight, its just finding the right dosage that can be tricky. Hope this helps!!

I'm scheduled for March 15th. I am getting excited but scared also. My brother in law claims it is the free of the unknown, I agree but it still isn't easy. I am committed to the surgery though. My every day struggles convince me that I am on the right path.

Jrenae00 reacted to teaqueen in To tell or not to tell? WLS
I have told 6 people: my husband, my 2 teenagers (who seemed completely unphased), 2 of my 8 sisters who I knew would be supportive (one of them had gastric bypass 15 years ago), and lastly, my work partner because we travel together and I'll need her support once we start flying a couple of weeks after surgery.
I travel for work each week to different locations, so most work relationships are remote or for a few days at a time. I'm most worried about staying hydrated once I'm in the air again.
I am deliberately choosing not to tell casual friends from church, school, and neighbors. They will talk enough as it is...no need to explain anything! I only needed to overhear a couple of catty chicks talking about wls once (and going on about how overweight people need to learn to push back from the table) to realize silence is golden. ????
Surgery on 1/5/16....excited, nervous and probably over stalking the boards out here!

I quit smoking using Chantix!! ???? I have been ???????? for 80 days. I smoked the first week and after that I didn't want them. My daughter has a vape with 0 nicotine that I may puff every blue moon just because I like the way the smoke has a cool feeling on my face. (Weird huh)
You can do it, there are plenty of options that are out there these days to assist you.
    Good luck ????????

Yeah I quit cold turkey on July 4th! Not one Black n Mild since. It hasnt been as hard as I thought even though I get lots of cravings at work when people light up. You can do it because it is definitely all worth it in the long run!

    Cold turkey 15 years ago.
It took a couple weeks to get past it, but became much, much easier after that.
In no time I began feeling a great deal better.
For months afterwards I had episodes in the hot & steamy showers where I'd cough up nasty crud.
My breathing became much easier and life was improved in many ways.
I've owned two cars since that I bought new and never smoked in them. It's great having a vehicle that doesn't smell like cigarettes or have that film build up on your windshield (same junk was building up in my lungs while smoking).
Getting past smoking was a huge hurdle in my life.
You will feel so much better. Combine that with the relief you'll get through upcoming weight loss.......you'll feel like a lottery winner.
Good luck. It's worth it !!!!

@@Jrenae00 - I quit tobacco 3 years ago. I still vape. I vaped before, in the hospital and after the surgery, without any discernible negative effect. I tried Welbutrin (but it caused my ex-wife to go to the hospital with stroke like symptoms) and Chantix (which made me fuzzy) but neither worked.

That part of the surgery really suc*ed! I quit cold turkey on Jan 13, 2015 and surgery was March 26, 2015. I had been prescribed Chantix but never took it because it was so expensive. I don't have words of wisdom for you. It's so hard and cravings are beyond words. YOU CAN DO THIS! It is so worth it being healthy all around. You will be able to breathe better, making exercise post-op so much easier. Good luck!!

Vaping help me tremendously. I obviously have an oral fetish hence the over eating and smoking etc so I was able to cut back the amount of nicotine in the oils and over 7 months I was able to go down to 0. I still vape when I'm stressed out.

Chantix really helps. I called my pcp, asked her for a script and stop with the frist pill. I haven't smoked since April 24,1 2015
It's August 26,2015 I'm having surgery today. The meds are on a step down bases. Therefore, you can still smoke it just reduced the urge.

Not always me at all! I am also terrified of failure like every other weight loss attempt I have made. I am trying to focus on taking care of myself as a priority. You can do it, good luck with your journey!

You will always be YOU on the inside ... Just the body you see in the mirror will change ...
This is such an exciting journey to be on !
We ALL get to meet the new body that will carry us around for the rest of our lives ...
What could be more exciting than that?
OK .. maybe fitting in an airplane seat with the arm rest DOWN ...
Maybe the airplane seatbelt fitting WITHOUT the extension ...
Actually fitting into those plastic white lawn chairs ... without fear of them buckling and you falling flat on your butt ...
Being able to actually walk around the WHOLE mall ...
Being able to enjoy decorating for the holidays without being grumpy because you're hurting so bad ... ( I'm looking forward to this!! )
There are so many little victories along the way ... SO much to look forward to ...
Best of luck !! You will succeed !
If HE brings you to it ... HE will bring you through it !

Thank you all so much... I've been so emotional lately, which is odd. I've tried to talk to family or friends but no one truly understands like people who are in or have been in this situation. To be perfectly honest, I'm not very the best at opening up and showing my feelings. That's why I've decided to join.

From what I have read we all feel this way or felt this way at some point. I am almost at the most weight I have ever lost and initially I didn't even feel like I was getting smaller, then all my clothes got too big. When the stall hit that everyone seems to have, I thought this is it I have failed...then the weight started coming off again. We have failed so many times we just expect to again but this is a wonderful tool and if used properly you WILL succeed. Just look at some of the long-termers here and you see it can be done.
I too have been overweight my whole life. I am finding I feel better and better as the weight comes off. I have no idea what I will look like at a more normal weight because I have never seen it. The more I lose the more excited I get about it. Things I have never seen before are happening...I have a small thigh gap, I can sit my laptop in my actual lap, my stomach doesn't touch the steering wheel anymore. Little victories will show you that it is possible to succeed.
Hang in there and have faith in your surgeon and your nutritionist. You can do great!

Yes and I wish I knew what to say to make you feel better. I am 10 months out and I'm still afraid of failing. And I'm a little afraid of succeeding. Sometimes the attention can be a little uncomfortable. There's comfort in being invisible. The great selection of clothes do help with the fear of success. I recommend some shopping therapy.
