  1. I had noticed the past couple weekends that I just wasn't myself on Saturday and Sunday. Confirmed it this weekend. If I don't work out on Saturday and Sunday like I do the rest of the week, my weekend is sh!t.

    Sleeve failure?

Yes and Yes. I did feel like it didn't work. The first couple weeks I was very hungry. Then about 3-4 weeks post op I hit a small stall. Now at 3 months post op I am in a real stall. The kind where you don't lose any weight for weeks, not days. It gets better! Keep at the plan!
  3. I agree with you. I am so shocked to see how different they can range. From types of foods, to how much of one type. Some are very strict while some give generic broad answers to very specific questions. I wish there was a more uniform plan that all weightloss centers would use. For instance, my Surgeons office is designated a Weightloss Center of Excellence. That is a nice distinction, but I have seen other WLSoE offices that have differing plans. Can they not just get together and adopt a more inclusive plan that would cover the majority of patients, regardless of where they get the surgery? I know that every person is different and sometimes a patient with a certain dr. gets a different plan than another patient with the same dr. either way, I agree to stick to the plan given to me and follow the advice of my Surgeon, until such a time comes where I may seek to inquire a 2nd opinion. But for now all seems good.
  4. I expressed my concern to my NUT at my first follow up after surgery. Having been in the hospital and only getting sugar free popsicles, I noticed that when they melted they were just clear liquid and a colored sludge. I know that prolonged use of sugar free anything is probably not healthy. She told me that she has been using sugar substitutes for over 10 years and has no problems with them. I am a little more reserved and I have decided that during this first 10-12 months I will "play ball" and make choices that put me in the best position to lose the most weight. But once I hit maintenance and adjust to eating to maintain, I will most likely opt for foods and beverages that has little to no artificial sweeteners. I would even be ok with some small amounts of regular sugar, though not in any beverages. I will do what is needed to lose, but adjust accordingly later, as I cannot believe that prolonged use of this crap is even close to healthy. Thats just my opinion.

    Painful hiccups?

I was hitting around 70g protein around 2 weeks out by drinking protein shakes and protein drinks.

    "Don't do that!"

I have two friends who are both morbidly obese, like I was. Both of them say "I don't believe in that surgery. You might lose some weight, but I have seen people put it all back on. The surgery doesn't work." Funny thing though, I haven't seen much of those two since my surgery. I saw them once about 3 weeks out when I was losing weight, feeling great and full of energy and excitement about starting my journey. Since then, crickets….

    "Don't do that!"

Are you serious about losing weight? Have you struggled with your weight for many years, maybe your whole life? Are you seriously considering gastric sleeve surgery? Do you know it's a tool that helps people lose weight, along with a proper diet and exercise? If you answered yes to more than 1 of these questions, DO DO THAT! Do exactly that. Have the surgery and follow the program laid out for you by the medical staff at your chosen weightless center. DO IT! And Succeed. There, from the mouth a random stranger. Seriously. There are many tools out there that can help you lose weight. I doubt her prayers she offered you will be as effective as this surgery.

    Painful hiccups?

Happens to me still, at 3 months post-op. For me, it happens after something very specific. I ate too fast. Not necessarily too much, but what I did eat, I consumed too quickly, and it never fails. Even when I know better and tell myself to slow down, sometimes I just eat too fast.

    Protein shakes

Not sure that is the best option. The only concern I would have is how much sugar is in the frozen greek yogurt? A Premiere Protein Shake has 4g carbs, 1g sugar and 30g Protein. That frozen yogurt, even though it's greek, probably has between 7-15g sugar in a half cup serving? Thats a lot of sugar, especially early on. I am not a nutritionist, so you should refer to your surgeon or nutritionist for confirmation, but I would maybe find another, lower sugar alternative. Best of luck.
  12. First, a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS! I can understand your hesitation to shout off the rooftops about reaching your Dr.'s goal, when you feel you haven't gotten there yet. I would probably react the same way. But that said, you obviously did things right and he appreciates your effort. I think our surgeons see so many people come and go over the years and when they see someone put in 110% to track, make good food choices and work on their fitness, they have to applaud it. I bet less than 5% of their patients do what you did and took it as seriously as you do. So, again, HUGE CONGRATS! Hopefully a you can implement a few changes that you are comfortable with and maybe see some more progress. I bet you have 20lbs to lose just by having extra skin removed. That could get you to your goal for sure!

Guy's Room - Calorie target 9 months out?

@@DavidOso , That is amazing! Congrats on such a great loss. Even bigger congrats on getting in your Water and fiber! I wish I could hit that amount of fluids for the day. I am lucky to hit 64oz and that includes Protein water/drink, 0 cal Powerade or Vitamin Water and sometimes even 8oz of coffee in the AM. I only eat real food 3 times a day, the other 2 times I snack, it is usually a Protein Bar or a Protein shake. Even doing that, I have no wiggle room to cheat as far as calories go. Sometimes I think maybe I will have a little sweet treat or something and I look at my intake for the day and I opt not too because I am already tapping on my calorie limit for the day. I also don't consume many calories after 4pm. I eat a small protein item as dinner, but it is usually less than 3oz.

Guy's Room - Calorie target 9 months out?

I am able to hit 100-120g Protein by supplementing Protein2O (Protein Water), Isopure Protein drinks and at least 1 Lo Sugar/Carb Protein Bar per day. I know we should get as much of our nutrients from real food, but it is hard for me to hit 80g, let alone 100g+ without these supplements.
  15. Rode my bike to the gym this morning. Screw that! It's too damn cold.

    Six Month Milestone

Way to go! Keep it up! I can relate to your feeling when you looked at the most recent photo. I lost so much so fast at first that when I look at the current me in a picture, or when trying on new clothes, I still feel like it isn't enough. But side by side, a before and after, it is amazing to see the difference. Looking good. Keep it up!

    Any one here from Mi

Congrats on the Surgery. Best of luck on the recovery. I remember feeling so energetic and vibrant the first couple weeks. Still feel amazing compared to life before surgery, but I remember thinking how great I felt that second week in particular.

Guy's Room - Calorie target 9 months out?

Yeah, it just seemed to go so fast. I have not been regular since about 4 weeks post op. The first 3 weeks or so being on liquids was easy to be regular, or leaning slightly, um, looser? But now I am lucky if I go every 3-4 days. I have been trying to add flax seed into my yogurt. I also have some metamucil, the sugar free stuff. I tried it once, it tastes horrible. I do need to get regular but as of right now, am not.

Guy's Room - Calorie target 9 months out?

Sorry, I too am here to see what happens. Although I have similar stats to what you have mentioned, I am only 3 months out. I too get around 1200-1300 Calories a day, give or take. About 100-120g of Protein. About 90-100g Carbs and less than 35g of Sugar, daily. I drink enough fluids and work out at least 5hrs per week. 30 min of cardio, followed by 30 minutes of weights. Its hard to say I am in a stall, but I have only lost about 5 lbs. in the past 2-3 weeks and it seems like nothing I do helps that. Of course, my expectations are probably off a little, as the past 2.5 months I dropped 80 lbs. like it was my job, but I have been putting so much more effort into it and I expected more. I start to worry that my honeymoon phase is ending and that it will be a struggle to lose weight as quickly as I had at first. My newest thing to try is to stay off my scale except every Monday morning. For a long time I was weighing every other day or so. I am still shrinking in size somewhat rapidly so I also attribute some of this to losing more fat than muscle, which may explain why I slowed but not stopped. I don't know. It gets maddening to try to figure some of this stuff out.

The fear of regain is REAL!

We were what we ate pre-op. We are what we eat post-op. I can understand that fear of regain. I am slightly fearing I have reached the end of my honeymoon phase, as my loss has slowed so much all of a sudden. And I am working my tail off try to lose as much as possible. I don't know you, personally, @@Elode, but you seem too motivated to let that happen to you. Its a psychological war, on the daily, to worry about things like this. I remember you saying that you are not the exercise type. But your journey, your decisions, have been successful, you have been successful for you. The fact that you even realize how the others have messed up their chance, shows you know better. Keep coming here to vent, or help, or get help. We all believe in you!
