luvhermitcrabs reacted to NTL44 in Finally 100 lbs down!
I struggled with obesity my whole life, I would lose 30 lbs. just to gain 40 back. Quite frankly as a kid/teenager I did not care about my health. I cared about my appearance but it seemed "too hard" to make those changes. It was finally when my doctor told me I was becoming a pre diabetic that it all fell into place.
22 years old, 5'2" and 287 lbs. I went to the first meeting that I could. I remember that the 9 months my insurance required me to wait for the surgery seemed like forever. But I lost 50 pounds pre-op! Immediately after my surgery I out about 30 pounds and then kept hitting stalls. I got so depressed, for a year I lost nothing! I worked 7 days a week, and ate what was convenient vs. what was healthy, and I didn't make the time to workout. I never over ate or gained, thank goodness, but it was a terrible feeling having such a big dream and finding yourself at a halt. Finally once again, something in my life clicked for me, I have my healthy mindset back! I track my calories and exercises everyday, and don't feel like I'm suffering for anything. I now weigh 185, my ultimate goal is to be in the 120-130 range.
It's so crazy how at one point that goal seemed so impossible and now it doesn't seem so far away at all. Even during my tough year I always said that the sleeve was the best decision I ever made and it truly was!

I think you're fine. A general practice doctor who "diagnosed" you as a binge eater upon hearing you say you were a "stress eater" has mis-"diagnosed" you. There are specific behaviors associated with binge eating that aren't associated with someone who eats under specific conditions of stress.
As you probably know, there are several pen/paper tests that are used to help medicos diagnose binge eating disorders. food diaries / journals and interviews that cover specific subjects are also necessary to diagnose BED. I think all those need to be invoked here.
Sorry about the extra hoops to jump through. This can get sorted out, but it may take a few extra weeks.

I was thinking that too...glad to hear someone else thinks it's a bit off. But thanks for the rest of your comment--I'm glad to hear it is something they deal with somewhat regularly.

There may be times when you don't go for a while. I use stool softeners every day otherwise I am always constipated. Even 14 months post op.

It's common to see a big drop in the beginning. It won't always come off that easily as you get further out so be prepared. As long as you're feeling well, run with it. Congrats!

My extremities are freezing cold all the time as is the rest of me. Then about 15 to 20 times per day I get horrible hot flashes that make me sweat profusely even though my hands and feet are literally freezing.
Gah, can't wait until I am on the other side of menopause!

C-pap. Long extension cord (only outlet close was about five feet from bed) for chargers, slippers, shower shoes, brush/comb, moisturizing lip balm, stretchy clothes for ride home.
I wish I had a travel pillow for the ride home - great idea!
My surgery center gave out a pack that contained deodorant, disposable bath cloths, comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, Shampoo, soap, etc...
Good luck with surgery - we're all rooting for you!

I had RNY on 10/20, and I was hoping my belly swelling would have been better by now. I'm passing gas okay, but I look like I'm 6 months pregnant. LOL. I have my 2-week follow up next Weds. Is it common to still look bloated?

I have a cautionary tale for you, my fellow post-surgery mates…
Last night I was in a hurry to get to my son's football game. I warmed up my dinner, a kinda pita pocket hamburger (it was a "diet" food, low carbs/sugars, etc., frozen section of Kroger)… I was excited because I am now allowed regular foods and this was the one of the first "regular" things I've eaten in over 6 weeks.
So! I. ate. too. fast Just as I was sitting down to watch my son's game, I felt it… a pain in my lower chest… some of my dinner was stuck. I did not chew well, like I know that I am supposed to do. It was so awful. I broke out in cold sweats and, though I could breath, could not stop gagging. I had to go to the parking lot, hide between cars, and vomit my saliva (heard it referred to as "the foamies"). After about the third time, a small piece of food came out. The piece was not anything that I would have had a problem with pre surgery… honestly, it was tiny by normal standards. Even after I threw it up, I continued to vomit saliva, that I was unable to swallow, for about another 5 minutes.
Following advice I found online (yes, many others have experienced this horrible experience, apparently), I have been on liquids only for 24 hours. From what I have read, no long term ill effects can be expected, but inflammation is common.
I knew I needed to take small bites and chew, chew, chew, but I became over confident and rushed too damn much…I've learned my lesson, for now! Hopefully, my own little post-bariatric surgery nightmare will help you guys remember the rules and avoid such an unpleasant (and scary) situation in the future.

Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone for the sweet comments. It was a much better day today. I was able to get in almost 40 ounces of Water and 42 grams of Protein . I know this is still not goal but it is soooo much better then I have been doing! The encouragement from this group helps me each and every day!

Hey y'all. I'm home and doing okay. Sore and gassy, but alive and well. I'm happy.
I'm off my diabetic meds and my blood pressure meds. If everything stays as it is now, I'll stay off of them. Going back for my follow up on Nov. 9th.

Hey everyone I had my 3 week follow up today, my surgeon was so happy with my numbers today. I have lost 20 pounds since my surgery date and finally had my staples removed (ouch). Incision sites are a little sore but he says I'm healing beautifully. I was bummed out when I seen I had only lost 20 pounds but seeing how happy the surgeon was made me rethink my mentality. My husband says I'm too hard on myself. Maybe I am. All I know is I'm happy if the surgeon is happy. Only bad part about the appt was I'm still in the liquid phase for another 2 weeks but after today I know if I can do it for 3 weeks, I can do another 2.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful day, and for anyone who had a follow up today I hope it was great!

Why is everything I'm tasting so sweet? Has my taste buds changed. They brought me Jello it's so sweet and now the chicken broth is sweet as well ugh and leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. Did anyone feel this way right after surgery?

In the mornings Breakfast comes in two stages.
First stage is four ounces of 2% Fairlife Milk. I keep a couple of coffee mugs in the freezer and they keep my milk cold as I sip on the milk. Even slightly less than ice cold milk is yuck!
When the rest of the family is waking up, needing Breakfast, coffee, lunches made and what not; I usually have some form of egg (usually lightly scrambled) with some shredded cheese, a little hot sauce and a few small bites of Turkey sausage (or Turkey bacon).
I stay pretty full from about 6-10 between the milk, the eggs and the turkey.
By ten I'm starting to feel hungry and will then snack on either a cheese stick, a Babybel or Tillamook cheese snack.
At lunch (between 12-1) I will have a Laughing Cow cheese wedge, spread over two thin slices of either turkey or chicken from my local deli. I usually dip them in Spicy Mustard. I don't ever need more than that but sometimes I will eat another half cheese stick. Sometimes I have shrimp (steamed from home) dipped in homemade cocktail sauce or chicken salad from my grocer. Sometimes I will eat the chicken (or egg or tuna) salad with a few Wheat Thins.
By three or three thirty I will have a Greek Yogurt. I aim for no more than 10 grams of sugar, no less than 12 grams of Protein and no more than 100 calories. This gives me lots of options. Chobani Simply 100, Dannon Light and Fit, Oikos Triple Zero. Some flavors work well with PB2 powder (Jiffy makes one that has equal nutritional value) and with that I can up my Protein intake from 12 to 16 or 17 grams of protein.
dinner is always varied but centers around lean Proteins and well cooked non-starchy veggies (green Beans, asparagus, zucchini, squash). Last night I roasted a whole chicken in my dutch oven, had a slice of that with a quarter of mashed sweet potato and a few fresh (steamed) green Beans with lemon and pepper.
My nutritional goals are at this time to consume no more than 50 grams of carbs, 600-800 calories, 20 grams of sugar and at least 50 grams of protein. I have steadily lost 2-5 pounds a week since surgery, I have never been constipated, thrown up or lethargic.
This works for me, it may not work for anyone else but my surgeon, my PCP and my NUT are happy with my plan.

I was pureeing the Beans and chili, but my surgeon has moved me to soft foods already so now I just chew them very well. When I moved to purée, first thing I went out and bought were some cans of refried beans... Added a little Water and a slash of hot sauce and they were the most amazing thing ever!

luvhermitcrabs reacted to glitter eyes in After 9 Months and Great Results...Im Getting Hungry
I think it gets harder the further out we all are. I know there are times I get hungry and I even have cravings for some junk food. I am in maintenance now so I give myself a little more freedom in having the occasional treat. However, it can be hard to rein in the bad eating.
One thing that has worked for me is that if I find the cravings getting out of control then I do one or two days of liquid Protein Shakes only, then a few days of only high Protein foods. That usually breaks the junk cravings for me!
It is a balancing act to find out what works best for you!!
Good luck you can beat those junk foods that are calling your name.

This is just my opinion so take it for what it is worth.
I have a slice of pizza every once in a while, but I choose pizza that has a super thin crispy crust. I can only eat a very small amount but it is delicious and so far hasn't caused me to have any crazy cravings.
I eat potatoes maybe once a week and have no problems gaining weight or cravings. I also eat sweet potatoes and have since almost the beginning, again maybe once a week.
bread for me is very difficult. My tummy will only tolerate it if is toasted well. I cannot eat bread, Buns or anything like it. Cake.....these items almost feel like they get all Gummy in my tummy and once I have even a bite or two I am done and cannot eat anything further which meNs my Protein gets lost along the way. I simply stay away from bread and bread like products such as cake or quick breads.
Pasta, I have had twice in the last year. This too does not sit well in my tummy, it used to be my very favorite dish. I am Italian so Pasta was a twice weekly meal at my house before surgery. Now, I could care less if I ever have it again.
Rice, every once in a while I will eat one or two bites of rice because I love rice. I do ok with rice but honestly I try to limit my carbs to veggies and fruit.< /p>
I think your tummy will tell you what will or won't work. As far as timing, I was probably 8 months post op before I even thought about trying these foods. I am a bypass patient though so the sleeve might be different
    Good luck!
