    EGD biopsy?

Curious if anyone had to have a biopsy during their EGD? Just had mine done this morning, super early and I was super nervous but dr Peterson made me feel like I was in good hands so I received my special cocktail and went right to sleep. When I woke up I was back in the recovery space like I never left and really not feeling bad at all.. Not even a sore throat! The nurse discharging me mentioned that the dr had to do a biopsy during the exam as they found "something" and I was to call his office tomorrow to schedule an appointment for the results in about 7 days. It's the something that worries me and now I must wait 7 days to find out what that something was.. Anyone else have this experience?? Maybe it was just nothing but it was not discussed prior so I am a little concerned.

    EGD biopsy?

Thanks guys! This is reassuring. I called the office and the nurse said they would call when the results came in and she didn't sound very worried. This is probably routine and all will be fine. - on a brighter note, I got the psych appt scheduled for next week, nutritionist for the 8th and that will be my last requirement in order to submit for insurance approval! I am so excited!!

    Hiatal Hernia and wishful thinking

I just had an EGD this morning and my out of pocket was $604.00. I have a 500 ded that had not been met which is why it was so expensive. Total billed to my bcbs was around 1200.00
  4. I would think it would depend on the hospital. My hospital requires all elective procedures be paid in full before time of service. But I have seen others that will allow a percentage to be paid and then make payment arrangements... You can call the financial coordinator for the hospital and they should be able to tell you. Best of luck!!

    Nervous wreck

Oh gosh today is the appointment with the surgeon to go over which option is going to be best for me and to submit everything to the insurance for approval. I am so very nervous!! Mainly because I am scared something will go wrong and I will not be able to move forward... All of the failures before has me expecting this to not work out as well:( prayers for me today guys that I don't pass out in the waiting room from anxiety! Lol!! Kidding but not kidding.
  6. Good luck!!! And congratulation!
  7. Oh my I am so sorry that happened to you!! Just a suggestion, request your medical records if he won't speak on what happened. It has been my experience after requesting records I found out a lot about my emergency cesarean that the doctor did not disclose to me. Also, maybe to the surgeon the scar is not that big a deal to someone who sees them routinely but for the patient and family, waking up after surgery with a huge scar can be devastating! I would demand answers!! Hope everything moving forward goes smoothly for you! Sending prayers!

    Nervous wreck

So the doctor is super nice and really made me feel comfortable. Not like an obese failure like I was expecting???? He was leaning more toward the bypass than the sleeve only because of my reflux, won't know more until my EGD is completed in Tuesday. He also gave me a checklist to complete like the nutritionist visit and psych consult. Also I need my current Pap smear and lab work to be completed. It's on a roll guys!! Oh and I was told I am only 5 foot 2 1/2 inches and not the 5 foot 4 like I have thought for years!! I have shrunk!! But it put my BMI at 41.8.. That's better than the 40 and barely getting approved.

    Nervous wreck

Thanks! I am sitting in the waiting room as I type, the physician is running behind due to being stuck in surgery. I feel better surprisingly now that I am here waiting.. Just ready to get this going!!
  10. So I am still pretty new and have not had the surgery yet, I am kind of confused about which one to have now. I was all set on the sleeve until I started reading how bad the reflux is. Some have even ended up having to go back under and get the bypass because it had gotten so bad. I already have a hard time with indigestion and reflux, I really don't want it to get worse! Anyone else experience this worsening after surgery?

    GERD a problem for anyone?

    GERD a problem for anyone?

Thanks all! I think I want to have some testing before deciding on a definite. I really would rather have the sleeve though by not at the expense of worsening the reflux. Guess we will see!

    BCBS requirements and approval time

Thanks:) I hope it goes quickly enough. I am just ready to get myself back!! Being overweight has really changed me into someone I can't stand. I had never been one to stay to herself and the more weight I gain the more I find myself withdrawing. It especially sucks that my kids have to suffer because mommy doesn't feel comfortable at the water park or beach.
  14. Just wanting to prepare myself and waiting for my doc appointment next week is taking forever! Has anyone else felt like something will go wrong and you won't be able to get the surgery? Maybe because I have failed so many diets, I just feel like this won't work out either. I have BCBS of Texas and have a BMI right at 40. No co morbidities. I now have my husband and family on board and I really really want this for myself. Everything I have read says its relatively simple process through BCBS but gosh I just want to be prepared!! I have obtained all medical records from my pcp back 3 years because before that I didn't see a dr, and even after I have maybe two visits a year. Anyone else have similar insurance and what was your approval experience? Waiting sucks!!

    BCBS requirements and approval time

Gotcha. From what I was told, I will need one nutritionist visit and one psych evaluation. BMI over 40 and then I get the approval. Let's hope this goes as smoothly as I've been told.

    BCBS requirements and approval time

Was it a requirement of your insurance to have the EGD or the physician? I have had two over the phone interviews and attended the seminar both in person and online. Insurance covers the procedure and my first appointment with the surgeon is next week on the 20th. I am just so nervous and it's taking forever! I have this feeling like it is never going to happen. I am sure it is just nerves.

    Texas sleeve buddies

Wow that is amazing! I hope things are as smooth for me as well. I am just ready to start living finally!! I sit and think about all of the stuff I will be able to do more comfortably once I loose the weight and I just can't wait!!
  18. Looking for sleeve buddies in Texas. I am currently beginning my wls journey and do not have a date scheduled yet, hoping for October if all goes well. I am 32 years old and so ready to get my health back on track! I am located in San Antonio and am really going to need support through this from someone who knows what it's like. Can't wait!!

    Texas sleeve buddies

Wow 3 days! That's great. Hopefully I will do as well also. I work in an office so I should be able to return to work fairly quickly. I think I will allow myself a week just to be sure I get the hang of my new eating lifestyle.

    Texas sleeve buddies

Hi guys! Gosh I hope that everything goes smoothly and quickly. I am such an impatient person so I am really trying to calm down and take it a day at a time. It helps to have a support group like this to turn to!

    Texas sleeve buddies

Congratulations! Who was your surgeon? I am still in my consultation/approval stage so I am hoping my visit on the 20th will give me an idea of where I am with surgery. I have BCBS and so far everything I have ready and been told says it is a pretty smooth approval process. My BMI is 41. I am going to dr Peterson with Santa Rosa weight loss center. I also work for Santa Rosa. I am hoping to be sleeved by the middle of October!!
  22. Aside from being healthy, I cannot wait until my thighs no longer rub together when I walk! I cannot remember a time that they didn't do that.
  23. Absolutely! You guys have been so helpful, and I am so glad that I found this site! This whole process is going to be stressful enough so it is great to have others who are going, and have gone, through it also.
  24. Austin is a little far for me but thank you for the referral. I am going to call my insurance tomorrow to see what is in network with my insurance. The one that the office referred me too was self pay and didn't take any insurance so I really wanted to see if I could find a psychologist who takes it first before shelling out 200+. I will need as much moula for the hospital OOP as I can scrimp and save.. Lol. Thanks guys for the info:)
  25. Hi there! I am also considering dr Peterson for my sleeve. I also work for Santa Rosa. Was the approval quick or were there a lot of pre work required? I am just curious what your experiences were? What time frame did you have between the initial consultation and the surgery date? Sorry, I am just very nervous and waiting for my first consultation. This is such a big step in my life and i spent 8 months debating even going forward so I am so afraid it will not happen. Thanks so much!! And congrats!!
