I have a date 3/12 and am looking forward to a change in my life. I was recently frightened with a hospitalization not sure what I had. It made me realize that life is short and I want to live the next half thinner and healthier. I want to be able to get a good night sleep. I have severe sleep apnea and never sleep well. I want to have a summer to wear shorts and work in the yard again. I want to be a normal size and not the "jolly" fat person that so many think of me as. When you are fat you are treated different. sad sad sad sharon:mad:

  4. It means if your physician is not a participant of BC then you pay more sharon:)
  5. OH my God I hear you...I've had the "last supper" since October...trying to get some control over my eating so I won't be so shocked when I am on the preop..... sharon:)
  6. :thumbup:Hi Kristen I am a registered nurse and I did a lot of research prior to going with Dr. Tischler at Hartford Hospital. I would look at your physician of choice on the CT.gov Portal website under public health look for physician profile it will tell you a little about your physician. I would ask your doctor how many surgeries he has done ans what kind of complications they had. Did anyone have to go on IV feeds because of complications or feeding tubes. If the answe is NO.....then that's a good doctor. Middlesex is a good hospital but a private hospital which runs a little different than teaching hospitals. I would also be sure to attend the support meetings where you will get to know other people who have had surgery by him. There is a lot of information in those meetings. It is a tool to assist you with losing it not the be all to end all for being overweight. You should be evaluated well with psychological testing, nutritionist, cardiology, GI series and sleep study. As well as a myriad of blood work...including a diabetic 2 hour sugar test. Good luck and welcome to our group. I started my process in October of 2007 saw MD on 12/27 and my paperwork was completed and submitted to insurance by 1/31 and I had approval on 2/7. My date is 3/12 for surgery. I have BC/BS PPO State of Ct. as my husband is a retired state worker. Hope this information helps.... sharon:)
  7. congratulations!! I get banded on 3/12 and I don't have a doubt that it will be the beginning of a new life. I hope to spend the rest of my life healthy and thin. At 57 years old I am fed up of struggling with being overweight. Good for you its great to hear from someone who has been there and has no regrets... sharon:)
  8. I had my first appt on 12/27 wit surgeon and paperwork was sent to BC/BS of Ct on 01/31 I got my approval on 2/7 and my surgery is scheduled for 3/12. I could have had it earlier but I just came out of the hospital with a bronchial infection and was out of work for two weeks and I don't have any time since I'm fairly new at work. They also wanted to give my body time to heal. I'm so excited. I start my preop diet on 3/2 sharon:) Dr. Tischler Ct. Hartford Hospital
  9. glad to hear there was no pain. I remember when I had my gallbladder out I wanted to scream with the pain and they didn't give me any pain killers back then. I start my preop diet on 3/2. I can have cottage cheese and protein drinks, jello:thumbup: and yogurt. I was surprised. sharon:)

  19. Hi shortgal Yes I agree clothing is a nighmare. Ialways thought it was an oxymoron that they had 18 petites!!! REALLY....I'll probably never be a size 6 again but I'm okay with that. I just want to feel good. I'm sick of grunting when I bend down and sitting with my stomach on my knees (and the girls, who knows where they'll be when I'm done) My date is 03/12 and I begin my pre op diet on 3/2...so I'm on my way...here comes the summer....whoohoo......sharon:)
  20. Hello Ct Man How did you appt go today? I have my surgery scheduled for 3/12. I could have had it in the first week of March but since I just was out two weeks unexpected from a bronchial infection I couldn't take time off any sooner. I'm so excited.... sharon:)
  21. well if isn't in your policy that pretty much is it. You can obtain a benefit that was included in your policy to begin with. You could look at getting that benefit and asking what that would cost. I think that is your only option. I used to work in the insurance industry and they are very clear you get what your covered for and if there is an exclusion that's pretty much written in stone. sharon:)
  22. Congratulations Tina you have done well. Ct Man yes we have the same date for preop. I may have to postpone it for a while since I just was out for two weeks with a terrible bronchitis and have no time at my new job. I will see when I go there. I've worke so hard the last three months to get to this point I hate to hold off any more. Work would be more than willing to give me the time off so I'm thankful for that. I'll talk to you when I am done with my appt. Yes we will be March bandsters!!! Yeah finally. I would love not to be fat for summer for a change....its so embarassing....and sick of buying clothes from the "fat" store. Only another "fat" person understands what we go through so I am thankful to you all for the support. sharon:)
  23. I would have your physician (surgeon) write the appeal. It isn't something that should come from you. The physician's office should be expert on appealing such decisions. sharon:) RN/MSN
