Where Is The Connecticut Band Fam
I had my appt on Friday with the surgeon and he says I am right on target. Lost 8 lbs since the surgery and my first fill is in 3 weeks. I'm feeling better but still very tired. He and the pulmonologist said it will take longer to get back to normal. Having the weather improve will certainly help. Looking forward to walking in the sunny outdoors. And the fact I just got a bill for 815.00 for 200 gallons of oil!!!! I've now shut my furnace off. This is ridiculous. 175 a month for electricity and 800 for oil, there has to be a change somewhere....anyway I'm digressing....hope everyone is doing well sharon:)

Where Is The Connecticut Band Fam
Insurance approval went easy for me. I have BC/BS PPO as my husband is a retired state employee. My paperwork was submitted on 1/29 and I was approved on 2/3. Just stay on top of it with the insurance company. The hard part is coming...the surgery is easy...the food choices aren't. Because your not filled not much changes after surgery. You are still faced with making choices from a differentfood group. I have given up bread completely. Now on mushies eating scrambled eggs and cottge cheese, chicken salad, tuna salad etc. Your nutritionist will help you with that. Need to get in 60 gm of Protein every day so the Protein drinks help. My hardest part is not drinking anything for an hour after eating. I have always drank a lot of fluids. So welcome to our great blog, we have wonderful support. Good luck and be sure to keep us posted with your progress as whatever your worried about someone can help you with. You are not alone and that's the greatest thing sharon:)

I feel bad cause I've been bad
I am a nurse and if you've watched the lapband surgery video it is clear that the band is sewn into your stomach. I think you'd have to eat a complete steak unchewed to disrupt this band. I believe that taking it easy is reasonable....and I think physicians advise you to stay with fluids/soft to keep you in control. I was banded on 3/12 and was eating soft foods second week without difficulty. Quantity is about a third of what I usually eat. I've had no breads but have had chicken, Soups, and baby food fruits. We'll all be fine....don't worry so much... sharon;)

Post op problems-- adults only please
sorry for your complication. Look men get prostates and women have uterus'...even steven...don't think so. It depends on your age as to why this happened. It could also be because it was a traumatic insertion due to an enlarged prostate and you wouldn't have known it if you were asleep. It'll clear up.....and life goes on....congratulations on your surgery. Did you stay overnight? Probably should have...not good to just get surgery and be discharged. Sharon Registered Nurse/MSN

Port Broke Out
NO, that is not normal. I am a nurse and there is no explanation for the port coming out of her stomach. She needs to get a second opinion. I've never heard of this nor is it normal. sharon:)

is this okay
Alright, this is what the pains are from. I am a nurse and I have witnessed lapband surgery for gallbladder. When they place the tools into your abdomen they fill your big fat old stomach up with "gas" like substance in order to have room to use the tools. Depending on how much they put in and how much escapes before "aborting" your surgery you are left with the gas discipating after surgery. It is common to have left shoulder pain after surgery and sometimes just rumbling in your belly. The more you walk the more the gas is released. It is normal. I agree, I have no problem burping...but if I eat too much I do find myself having the urge to burp and nothing comes out and thus feeling uncomfortable. We are just beginning... sharon;)

I am so mad/sad
I was banded on 3/12 and I've eaten regular foods already. So don't worry your not alone. I didn't vomit didn't have a problem. I'm back on liquids and creamed Soups and yogurt. I have lost some but not as much as I am sure I would if I was restricted. Remember we're not rstricted yet so not much has changed...we're healing. Some docs are more crazy about the diets at the beginning than others. We have our minds to change...you're fine...we'll all do it...it a process sharon;)

Where Is The Connecticut Band Fam
Thank you and yes I'm realizing that the band is just "there". until I start getting fills nothing really has changed. I am doing much better and finding myself eating to be full and recognizing when I am full. I have my first appt with MD on Friday. Looking forward to the future, feeling better to start exercising and having the weather something other than "cold"..... sharon:)

Easter Ham
Yes I too hate the holidays. Our kids are grown but my husband insists on the whole trimming regardless. I also did take in more than I should have but still the control was there. It definitely better choices and less quantity. But the pressure is there and the memories of it being a "feeding frenzy" on the holidays. YOur not alone..... sharon;)

Where Is The Connecticut Band Fam
Thank you so much for the kind words. I do feel better about it today and ate much better. This is a little tougher now than I thought. Now that I am feeling better and not restricted I do feel a little hungry. I'm keeping quantities limited and better food choices. I am looking forward to the visit with Tishler on Friday. thanks sharon;)

Any Connecticut Bandsters Out There?
Afte I saw him for the first time which was on 12/27 I had gone to one support meeting. Had everything sutmitted by 1/31 and in and was approved by 2/3. When I was approved they then moved my preop date up and I was scheduled for surgery, 3/12. After my first visit I also had a second appt which was for 3/27 but they had said if everything is done prior they would push things up, which they did. So I am almost two weeks post op and glads its done. so you may end up with it quicker. I'm planning on going to the April group meeting. sharon;)

Motrin?
NO NO NO...NSAIDS at all..you are now at risk for an ulcer after surgery. YOu rphysician should have advised you that. Tylenol is fine...liquid or crush the pills or take the capsules and open them and add to some applesauce to take. I am a nurse sharon: RN/MSN

Port replacement and FILL/UNFILL. Plz read.
my thoughts are you need a new surgeon. I am a nurse and I can tell you what he did is wrong. You should not have had a fill after surgery and she should not be screwing around looking for your port and in addition not believing you i the first place. Fire his ass and find yourself a good surgeon. sharon;) RN/MSN

is this okay
think of how happy you'd be with 7 lbs in 5 days before this? Of course its fine. I don't think it shoulod hurt when you burp...how many days post op are you? I was banded on 3/12 and really feel very little surgically. good luck sharon:)

March 12 >>> Finaly
well had the lapband on the 12th but ended up with pneumonia and c-diff after antbiotics. what supposed to be the next day return to home ended up a 5 day stay. I'm feeling better and am eating cottage cheese, protein drinks and scxrambled eggs. I do feel full easily and so afraid of being dehydrating am drinking throughout the day. its hard not to graze at this stage because there isn't much we can eat to begin with so I do find I am eating about 2-3 tablespoons at a time but 4-5 times per day. I've lost a total of 15 lbs which included my preop diet so I'm not really excited about the weight loss as I felt it would be more. But I do think how excited I would have been with this weight loss prior to the surgery so I should be happy. I'm a little sore and have a hard time wearing a bra because of it. I have my first appt on Friday the 29th and am looking forward to it. I'm still struggling with loose stool so I don't know if this is normal or not. So how is everyone else doing? sharon;)
