  1. I am 5 months post op and feel cold constantly! I used to always be hot! I have a small blanket I keep on the couch and I have to be wrapped up. I have a space heater at work. My hubby bought me thick socks for Christmas because my toes seem to always be cold. My hands stay cold too. STAY WARM.
  2. Are you eating 4-5 small meals a day? I have hit road bumps when I don't eat 5 meals per day. Got to keep the metabolism working! Good luck!
  3. I am 5 months post op and I found that using a timer (there's a free one on the app store called "Bariatric Timer") really helps curve the hunger. Sounds weird but it helps me. I stopped using it for about a month and just recently started using it again to help with the hunger and bad snacking habits I have created. It tells you when it's OK to drink and eat and I found that when I stick to it, it almost feels like "wow, I have to eat again already?" or "wait, I didn't finish all the water I wanted to drink before eating again." Stick to the rules! They are there for a reason. You've got this!

    6 months post op

I am 5 months post op and I have hit a bump a couple of times. When doing some research I found it was when I wasn't eating 5 meals a day that I would stop losing weight. I make sure to eat 5 meals a day. I eat every 3 hours give or take. When you don't eat enough your body goes into starvation mode and wants to hold onto everything you have. Good luck!

    Anyone try jalapeños peppers?

I love jalapeno! I was cautious the first couple of times, but never had any issues. Like everyone else has said, try a little and see how you feel.
  6. I am just like you! I'm almost 60 pounds lost and I am just now not fitting into my size 16. Someone once told me that every 10 pounds lost is a dress size and I was worried when my size wasn't changing. Obviously that's not true for everyone. I have lost a ton of weight in my face, butt and thighs and I also dropped a cup size in bras. My stomach is slowly catching up. Don't be discouraged, it will happen soon enough!
  7. I am making an impromptu trip that will have me flying for about 8 hours. I am in the soft foods stage and am struggling to come up with soft food/snack ideas. Any suggestions?
  8. Thank you so much for the ideas! I was hoping to not have to do protein drinks, but it sounds like that may be the way to go.
  9. Great job! Keep up the good work!!!!

    Breath mints?

I was a huge gum chewer and am now hooked on Listerine breath strips. You can find them by the toothpaste at the store. Be careful, the cinnamon is spicy!

    Coffee after surgery?

My nutritionist says decaf OK during full liquids and going forward. They prefer no regular coffee, but if you do, limit it to 1 cup and can start during soft foods phase. I've read where you should drink extra Water when you have regular coffee because the caffeine can assist in causing dehydration. I am 4 weeks post op and will drink decaf maybe twice a week and I cant drink more than a cup or my tummy feels icky. I did get a great coffee at Starbucks yesterday, brewed decaf with two pumps of SF cinnamon dolce flavoring. I added some non-fat milk and a little cream.

    Vomiting

Something similar happened to me about 2 weeks out. It was with Greek Yogurt. I had been enjoying it and one morning the smell itself made me nauseous. I tried to muster up a bite, but started gagging. I didn't actually vomit, but was close. I have found myself changing my cravings a lot lately, where one day I will love something I am eating and then the next day it grosses me out. I am 4 weeks post op. Hopefully you just experienced a day where your tummy didn't like the food anymore. Good luck, I hope it's nothing serious!
  13. I'm not too far behind you, about 14 hours!!! Best of luck to you and I hope you have a perfect surgery and a wonderful recovery!!!!!!

    Newbie who is Almost There!

Congrats on the approval!! I called my insurance daily until I heard the good news. I am scheduled for surgery on Monday the 17th! It's getting so close and I am more excited than nervous! I'm ready to be a healthier me! I am on day 12 of the liquid diet and boy am I ready to be done with this part of the process. It does get easier as the days pass, but still looking forward to some "real" food! I wish you the best of luck!!!! @@mishi - I did the same thing and was embarrassed, but now I am down 15 pounds on the pre-op diet! Woohoo!
  16. Today is day 8 of the pre-op liquid diet and probably my best day both mentally and physically. I notice how the shakes feel me up now. We are strong and we can do this!!!!!
  17. This is a great question! As of right now, my immediate family knows, my two good friends know and a couple co-workers (including my boss) know. It's hard to hide the pre-op liquid diet. The truth is we are always going to have people judging us, whether it's our weight, clothing, hair style, etc. Whatever you do, just do what feels right to you. I personally will tell people who ask and I know there will be times I have to defend my decision, but I will be a healthier, lighter person doing it!
  18. Best of luck tomorrow and going forward! I am day 7 of pre-op liquid diet, surgery is 08/17. I am envious! Keep up the great attitude and optimistic outlook, it's contagious!
  19. I am scheduled for surgery on 08/17 as well! My nutritionist had me start my pre-op diet on Friday. Lucky you! Oh man has it been tough! I'm not going to lie! Today is day 4 and overall it's better. Days 1 and 2 were awful and I cried. My nurse had me do a bucket list of the things I want to do as a skinnier and healthier me and while I was crying to my husband, he had me pull out the list and we went over it. That actually helped. I'm still hungry here and there and crave something to bite into, besides jello or a popsicle. LOL I do notice that the shakes take away the hunger better now. I have had to take Tylenol twice for headaches, but my biggest issue has been the emotions. I feel like crying when I see people eat. I know this is temporary, so like others have said previously, I'm taking it one shake at a time. I've seriously thought of cheating, but remind myself that this is to help the Doctor be more successful with surgery and that helps a little. Days 1 and 2 are the worst, but it does get better! STAY STRONG! YOU CAN DO THIS! Oh and the plus side is I am down 10 pounds as of this morning!
  20. I'm liking the Gold Standard Whey protein from Costco. It's $60, but it's 90 servings! I got the vanilla and have been adding torani sugar free syrups to it. This morning I had this with almond milk and black cherry torani syrup and it's yummy.
  21. Alright, this is my first post and I am excited (and slightly nervous) to say that my surgery is scheduled for Aug 17th. Today is my first day on the pre-op diet and the first few hours are going ok. I set hourly reminders in my phone to drink my water, protein, jello, etc. I figured if I can stick to an hourly regimen (as much as possible), then maybe I will have better luck. I have already had small gurgle noises coming from my stomach. Thankfully I have a very understanding boss and told him to ignore all weird noises my body makes and to please have patience with me if I seem grumpy or irritable. I'm not looking forward to how I will feel this weekend, as I like to go out and eat on the weekends and obviously that is out of the question. I begged my husband to keep me occupied as much as possible. I know I can do this. I purchased the Vanilla protein powder from Costco. I'm not going to lie, it was pricey but it only has 2g of carbs and 24 or 25g of protein! I am allowed 5-6 a day as long as each protein drink is under 15g of carbs, so that gives me wiggle room to add flavorings. I am aiming for 5 protein shakes a day. No real food for me. I saw someone mention they can have raw veggies and got jealous! Alright fellow August people, lets kick some butt! We can do this! We want to do this! I can't wait to be a healthier and skinnier me!!!!
