  1. Hi everyone! I miss chatting with you guys. Congratulations on your victories. I am inspired to do more by just reading your journeys. Although it's not good to compare, I still feel like it's more I can be doing. I am down 34lbs and my current weight is 209. I try to stay away from the scale some weeks because it's no fun when I hit a stall and the scale is dormant. Just wondering, has any of your doctors or nutritionist mentioned approximately how long it usually takes to reach your goal? I know it's a slow process and I don't plan to stop any time soon, but I would like to know if I'm on target at least.

  2. Hi everyone, I am right there with you guys. I've lost 27 lbs since pre-op and 17 lbs since surgery. I feel much more normal now. I'm learning my new stomach more and more. Still a little hesitant to try certain foods. I kinda like to stick to what I know lol. I have really been eating avocado. They are my fav right now. What are some things you guys have been experimenting with? I definitely need more food choices:)

  3. Yikes! I would have freaked out to see blood. I have been looking for information about hiatal hernias. I had one repaired when I was sleeved. Well last night I had gas, I took the gas x pills as the strips doesn't seem to work anymore. Well I sipped some Water with the pills apparently I didn't sip enough because I fell asleep. I woke up about 2 hours later with esophageal pain. I drank more water and I felt the pills going down. Well today my esophagus is still hurting. I called my surgeon's office and they said to drink cold liquids today and if it's not better in 2 days they'll do an exam on it. Has this happened to anyone? I also have not been taking my PPIs, which may have something to do with it.

  4. Sounds like referred pain.

The nerves of your diaphragm enter the spinal cord at the same level as those of your shoulder. The signals get crossed and you get shoulder pain.

I had this following my surgery for awhile due to the hiatal hernia fix I had at the same time. As stuff passed through the diaphragm I would have shoulder pain.

That's exactly what's happening to me. Thanks I can't wait for this stage to pass.

  5. i have experienced left shoulder pain after eating food that was a little heavier like a meatball or tuna when beganstage three of my diet. i also posted the same question because it was a little worried. others have had the same experience. i am 2 months out and it seemed to go away. i was told by one of my drs that it is very possible it has something to do with the vagus nerve that runs through the stomach and it should go away and sure enough it did. not saying that this is what your pain is but it very well could be.

Thanks I'm going to research that...

  6. I was sleeved on 2/1 and I was just like you. I talked to the anesthesiologist a lot before surgery. I asked him about his experience and I informed him of my reservations in regards to being put to sleep. He assured me I'd be fine and he also gave me something to relax. It was called Versed and it helped. It seemed like the surgery happened so fast. All I remember is getting on the OR table and waking up to my husband in my room. That was my 1st time being put to sleep and I must say it was a great experience. You'll be fine.

  7. Has anyone experienced left shoulder pain while eating? I went to the doctor for my 2 week checkup today. I explained to him that my left shoulder hurts sometimes during the day. It's not excruciating, it feels like gas... just not sure. I am now in the pureed stage, I feel fine otherwise. Vitals are all normal. Just don't understand how the gas pains could still be the culprit.

  8. Hi guys! I have not been able to meet any of my goals really... the only positive I'm seeing is my weight loss... I have not been able to get any Protein down despite my efforts to buy the Syntrax Nectar. I don't know if it's the texture or flavor that is bothering me the most. As far as Water, I'm still trying. I know it's not healthy, but this diet comes with much discipline. I notice that I do much better when I'm at work. I feel I'm a lot more structured. As stated earlier, I'll start over tomorrow.

Hey Arenea! What Syntrax are you taking? I have the plain and it is meh too but I think Adina might've had the chocolate truffle and she swears by it. Maybe try that?

I have the caribbean cooler, it smells great as a powder, but when I mix it with water I can't stand it. It's just weird. So today I bought the Campbell's Soup on the go chicken noodle flavor and that worked. I didn't eat the little noodles or carrots although they were very soft, but I did drink the broth. I saw they have chicken tortilla in the drinkable on the go Soups too. I saw someone asking, but I'm sure it's not as good as homemade.

  10. Has anyone returned to work yet? Just curious, I've been back since Friday and tonight is my last night until next weekend. But I feel like going back to work soon was helpful for my recovery. I never told my job about the surgery, neither did I tell my doctor about my plans to return. I feel great now, I felt like the bed and recliner was keeping me "in pain"...

  11. I've been doing pretty good but what i dont understand is that I'm hungry!! I'm able to get all my fluids in a day but i dont understand the hunger.

That's weird. I would be confused to because I thought all that was cut out. Is it like real true hunger? Or could it be thirst? I haven't felt a shred of hunger. At all. Are you getting in all your fluids?

Ok I just bought this stuff to see if I can get some Protein in. I haven't had protein for almost 2 days. I have been able to do better with my Water intake. I just can't wait until we can have more options, but for now I guess this will suffice.

Hubby bought me the same yesterday. Can you let me know how it ends up working for you and what you use it in? Just curious...

    I sure will.

  12. Hello group! Well I just had the surgery performed on 1/28/16 and figured I was close enough to the 1st. My stats are male, 5'10 and my starting weight when starting the pre op diet was 306. On the day of surgery I weighed 288. It has now been over a week since surgery (day 11 today) and I now weigh 280. I was hoping to have lost more during this first week but I know I need to be patient. 8lbs is good I know but still lol. Ok, so about my experience so far. It's actually been a lot easier than I expected. I expected the pain to be horrible but it really wasn't that bad. Only one of the incensions ever really hurt and that was the one on my right abdomen. Of course, I figured it was because that's where they pulled the remainder of the stomach out. The max I would say my pain has been throughout this entire thing would be like a 4-5 and that was immediately coming out of surgery. After that, it was pretty easy sailing. I haven't had any issues keeping anything down. I know when I drink fluids to slow down if I feel like it isn't going down as smoothly as possible. Sometimes I can feel like it's going slowly when it gets to my chest area and then it goes down but this feeling lasts for literally 3 seconds at the most. I have gone to the gym once since coming out of surgery and that was like day 4. Figured I could use the extra walking since I was sort of scared of getting blood clots and walking around the house back and forth seemed odd lol. I walked for 45 minutes on the treadmill so not too shabby. So anyways, I went back to work yesterday. Pretty stationary type job with not that much walking. At this point my pain is probably at a 0. Well last night I'm watching TV while on the couch and I start laughing, which makes me start coughing and then my freaking incension (right abdomen of course) begins to hurt again. It seriously went from a 0 to the past 4 days or so, back to like a 3-4 when moving certain ways, getting out of bed, etc. I thought I was home free in the pain department when it came to the incensions but a stupid loud laugh/cough ruined it :( lol. I feel like I'm back to like day 2 or 3 following surgery. Once I felt the pain I was like what the heck. Then I got up and I knew that the pain was back. It's weird. So now I'm like dreading to sit out of bed, get up from the couch, etc because of it again. Oh well, I know the pain will pass soon enough and I wouldn't say it's strong enough to take the pain pills because it petty much goes away once I'm in a comfortable position. Idk, has anyone else had this issue where the pain just came back out of no where? Aside from that everything is going good. Wish everyone on here the best of luck :)

I notice the more I move around, or stretch or reach that one invicision hurt me as well. It's a way to say hey its time to sit down. Lol

  13. Are any of you having problems swallowing? I feel pain in my chest everytime I swallow. I didn't have this problem the first few days, I really just noticed it starting yesterday.

If you had a hiatal hernia, that's what it is. You have to take that hyoscyamine or whatever it's called three times daily, and take smaller sips. For me, it feels like Fluid gets stuck in a not and that's where it hurts, then it kind of funnels through. Very annoying. Mind started on day 3 when I was discharged - I was fine at the hospital because the nurses were pushing my drugs on a regular basis so I was never without it. I started slipping on taking them in time which is when I started to notice it. If you didn't have a hiatal hernia repair than I have no idea. Maybe you need to take smaller sips? I hope you figure it out.

Yes I had this problem too. It did go away. I also had a hernia repair. That pain didn't start until I left the hospital.

  14. My doctor's office called me today to checkup. I have been doing things wrong. I have not been able to get all of my Protein so I bought a bolt house farms daily greens shake and I mixed that with the unflavored Isopure protein. The protein tastes like milk to me. No matter what. I have a very strong aversion to milk. I felt that as long as I was getting some fluids down and it was sugar free. Their recommendation was to mix the protein powder with Water only and syntax nectar

Did they give you a binder or manual or pamphlet? They should've! Do you already have the syntax nectar? Curious if it's truly tasteless. Hubby just bought me some yesterday to add to my broth so that there is protein in that too. Haven't tried it yet.

Was the bolthouse green drink what you meant by being wrong? You'll get into a routine soon!!! (Hugs)

Yes I was wrong with the bolt house drink. They gave me a binder, but I never had a problem until I got home and realized I couldn't stand the protein. They want me to mix my protein with 4 oz of pureed fruit once a day and mix my protein with milk for my second serving of protein. There aren't many options and I realize that protein is in the form of powder for now, but it's the worst for me. For now I'll stick to my liquid such as water, Jello, broth for now at least until I can eat soft meats.< /p>
