Chris-NYC got a reaction from arenea in United Healthcare approval?
Your welcome and I completely agree with taweedeegirl. I have did these exact same steps. I would recommend you talking with ur PCP first about your decision depending on your weight medical history they probably will agree with it. If so ask for ur doctor for a recommendation letter to have for the surgeon.
I too would to call United healthcare on ur own before seeing a surgeon and tell them ur interested and bariatric program and wanted to learn more. ****Just do not automatically say that you want to have surgery*** lol. The person if knowledge should tell you the qualifications and direct you to the proper dept that handles this
United healthcare has select center of excellence locations that you must pick from. The last thing you want is to waste your time attending appointment at a non-covered office. It happen to me when I first thought about surgery. I went to a non-approved office even though the surgeon said not to worry United healthcare directly told me that if I continue to go to that center they will not cover my surgery. So I switch.

I have United healthcare as well just be sure when calling from the list definitely make sure you feel comfortable With the surgeon office Personnel. I originally had one surgeon selected who was closer but every time I called they put me on hold then got disconnected a few times and then whatever call me back felt like I was bothering them. So I switch to a different surgeon who ended being fantastic.
I did have a few co-pays, of course this might vary based on your pacific plan.
$40 co-payments every time I went to the surgeon office.
$20 monthly co-pay to see my primary doctor for the six-month weight history review
    $150 for the Psychologist
$250 hospital co-pay on the day I had surgery.
Now that I had surgery I spent approximately $25 give or take and Vitamins in mouth

I take my lunch to work everyday and I eat before I leave if I am going out to do errands on weekends. That way I don't get myself in a perdicament to have to eat fast food.
I also carry nuts and beef Jerky in my purse for a snack if I should need one. I am 9 weeks out on Monday and I can not see myself eating that food for a LONG time!

Yea my office only allow us to keep our cloths on after the first initial weigh-in.
Forgot to mention that they did give us a hospital gown so it wasn't a weird feeling stepping on the scale. But it could just be my office requirements who knows, I'm pretty sure most only had to take off their shoes. Either way I wouldn't worry I'm sure a few pounds wouldn't make a big difference getting approve

I guess it depends on ur surgeon Office procedures. They already know the reason you coming to their office so they will definitely weigh you so they can have accurate measurements for the insurance company. My office made me take off everything except for my underwear when stepping on the scale for the first time

My had surgery on July 20 I feel pretty good. About 85%. Very min pain. I been walking the dog daily 3 times a day. I would love to go bike riding or even try a little running but worry that I pull something or cause more pain. My dr said I could but might just wait a little longer

I just had my gastric sleeve surgery on July 20. Yes I also have United Healthcare and was assigned a case manager as well. I'll be honest I'm not exactly sure what the purpose of it is but it does make the approval process a lot smoother and quicker especially if you keep the case manager updated and every appointment you have. I emailed my case manager once a month with any appointments I had or upcoming as well as my current weight.I felt doing so helped. In fact after complete in the six months review and talking to the case manager I got approved 2 days after.

Hey Brandon I was not required but did lose 20 lbs within the 6 months supervised weight review so my Dr told be my current exercise and eating habits was pretty good. He said the purpose is to prepare you & your body to get in the habit of eating better plus a less chance of complications. However i was told to try n not gain any weight but I did gain 2 pounds before surgery due to a family bbq the week before surgery but was not noticeable since my weight was still less then my pre-op final visit. Quick note: Every doctors different on their patients length of time but be prepared that you will need to be on a clear liquid diet anywhere between 5 days - 24 hrs before surgery.

Sleeved on Tuesday, the 21st. 4 days post op. No problems. No major pain. I was able to come off pain pills after 1st night home, but I typically have a high tolerance for pain.
It's so interesting to see all the restrictions others had, and they had difficulties. My surgeon required 2 shakes and a sensible meal(4 ozs of Protein and a veggie) two weeks prior up to the day before surgery. I'm very grateful that the pre-op gave me a better idea as to portion sizes for the future.
I've had a few weak feelings in my legs as my body adjusts, but I can say, walking that gas on out was a life saver those 1st 3 days. Excited for my post op appt and to start stage 2 diet--I'm sick of the liquids, lol.

Hey Amy I told just a hand full of family members & family, but stopped after one co-worker was not being support. When I finally did get approved for a Surgery date I told my coworkers that I'll be on a two-week vacation and I made up a trip.
Am still in the hospital but when I return to work I will mention to them that I change my diet and been working out alot while out of town so as the weight comes off they won't question me

Hey everyone I just had my gastric sleeve surgery on Monday am still in the hospital. Surgery was scheduled for 1 PM however I walked into the operating room at 4:15 and was in recovery by 5:25 cording to the doctor and my family. after waking up in recovery the only pain I had was back pain from all the gas used in my body. On a pain scale 1 to 10 my pain level was a 8-9????, they quickly gave me something and I dozed back off????. I spend the next few hrs in recovery waiting on a empty room. I was in my room by 9:30pm and by then was in no pain at all. As a matter of fact I felt so good that I started walking at 10pm for about 20 mins Monday night doctors and nurse was very surprise that I felt so good. I also had no appetite even though last time I ate was Saturday night. On Tuesday I spend the day going for tests and started drinking drinking liquids for the first time. My first slip of Water made me very noshes however I did not throw up or anything. After that I switch to a different drink and feel better. Because my my stomach was still swollen I felt extremely extremely full like I just went to a all you can eat buffet twice in the same day. I felt very miserable most of the day ????and could not drink more than approximately 20 ounces of liquid. Doctors told me once I'm able to drink 64 ounces or close to 64 ounces I will be released from the hospital which should be sometime today.
Currently I am no longer nauseous my pain level is very minimum I am already taking crush medication instead of through the IV.
    On a pain scale 1 to 10 I feel like a 3. ????
