    Would you do it again?

probably... i'm having a lot of trouble with port pain 3.5 weeks out... so i'm feeling a bit depressed right now. added to that my (normally low) blood pressure has dropped off the scale so i am experiencing a lot of dizziness and feeling like i'm going to pass out but... i believe these problems will pass and it will be worth it... ask me in acouple of months and i'd probably say yes without hesitation... but it's not straightforward for everyone.

    Residual abdominal pain

hi i TOTALLY understand. i was banded on 16th jan and up until last mon i was in really really severe pain from the port. i couldnt think, work or do anything. so last mon was a good day, then tues sucked big time... all the pain came back. wed was a bit better, thurs was average and today the pain is here but in a different place. hence i cant sleep. i've been in contact with my surgeon and gp and i dont know there is much they can do. the surgeon spoke about repositioning the port, but as the pain has eased up a bit, i dont know that i'll go down that path unless i need to. i have taken the advice of others and kept up the pain meds.. it much better than just taking it when the pain is excruciating. i guess i can say that after almost 3 weeks, my pain did settle a little, and i'm just hoping it continues to get better. you give me hope lessofme. hang in there maryt and joyross43... you are not alone. t

Help! how do I deal with this?

you could ask her why she is so unhappy... or say to her..."well dont hold back, tell us how you REALLY feel" you deserve better in the workplace, it is discrimination and this is one very sad person that she has to make herself feel better by putting everyone else down. hang in there, nat271980... and promise yourself you'll never be as judgemental as her. t

    What to tell co-workers

you could always tell them you are having a hernia operation... that's what i told the people i didnt want to share with. althogh now 3 weeks on andin a lot of pain i think some of them are wondering why a hernia operation is such a big deal... still, that's not my problem i wouldnt tell many people. i told very few and there is one person i thought would be incredibly supportive who isnt and now i wish i'd never bloody told her... she's turned into a friggin know it all... always saying "well yes, i thought that would happen" so teller fewer rather than more people. t
  11. hey lucyb no, i'm not wearing anything even remotely restrictive. i get the pain all the time when sitting... even if i just have a nightie on and nothing else. so it's nothing to do with restrictive clothing. I cant even imagine wearing restrictive clothing right now! t
  12. Ok, i was banded on 16th Jan and everything went well. I got out of hospital the next day. I had a lot of tearing pain internally around my port, but two weeks on, I am still in a LOT of pain there. All my other incisions have cleared up well. My port incision is clearing up, i did have a slight infection at one end of it, but i got onto it right away and am still on amoxil syrup. I went back to the surgeon a week ago cos of the pain near the port incision and he ordered an ultrasound in case it was a haematoma or something. I had that done tues am and there was no problem they could see. I spoke to his receptionist on wed this week and she said he wants me to call back today if the pain is no better as he is thinking of re-locating the port (ie going back in). I went to my gp yesterday and she just told me to go home and rest. the pain is bad when i sit, but really not there when i'm lying down or standing. but it's really really bad when i sit... and of course my job involves a lot of sitting. so, has anyone had any problems like this? what did you do? i am worried that if he re-locates the port, i might still have the pain, just somewhere else. My gp was also thinking this and i didnt put the idea in her head. I am really confused as to what to do. Everything else has been fine. I am on mushies and doing well. No problems eating, so internally everything appears to be going well. I'd really appreciate any feedback... especially if anyone has had a similar problem. thea

    banded 1/28 and question's

well i gained 7lbs during the 24 hours i was in hospital, but it went away after a week, so dont panic if you're not losing. i know it's disheartening cos some people lose 20lbs or so onthe liquid phase, but i've only lost 2 lbs per week. i regret the use of the word "only" cos i'm ok with 2lbs a week. you have to let your body do what it needs to do. not everyone is the same. some will lose a lot and others like me are just slow losers. i'm focusing on healing and re-thinking and re-learning the whole eating thing... and i'm really happy to be banded cos i know long term it's going to make a big difference. so dont panic, everyone is different. t
