I work in higher education as an Assessment Director for a college!
  2. I am set to be sleeved on November 30th. I come from a big Italian family where eating is a hobby. I am very worried about how I will handle holidays, get togethers, dining out with friends, etc. I know I will be eating very little and mostly Protein. I keep thinking of all the foods I will miss, even though they are negatively affecting my health. Any advice? Thanks!
  3. Thanks-surgery is scheduled for 11/30! I know it will be here before I know it!
  4. It's been a long road. I went to my first information session at the end of May. Cigna had a three month supervised program with a dietician. That started in Mid July. My surgeon's office submitted in mid October and I got the letter yesterday. I think the actual process of approval took a week or so. So happy they approved me on the first shot and we did not have to get the surgeon involved.
  5. I could not believe my eyes when I opened up my mail today. An approval letter from Cigna. The doctor's office thought it would take 3-4 weeks. but it only took a week and a half. After dozens of appointment and tests, I can't believe I was approved without a problem. I'm happy, excited, nervous and grateful. This is a chance to change my life and improve my health! Anyone else scheduled for 11/30 or close?
  6. Hi everyone, I will be sleeved on November 30th and am starting to research the Vitamins I will need to buy? Where have you found them to be reasonably priced? I have to take quite a few and don't want to spend $100 a month or more on vitamins. I am particularly having trouble finding a 27 or 28 mg Iron chewable with 500 MG of of Vitamin C. I may opt to buy the Celebrate Multi Complete with Iron Chewables which have 36 mg of iron and a separate chewable Vitamin C. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!
  7. Hi! I am on the road to getting the sleeve sometime in November. I have type II diabetes and am hoping it goes into remission with the surgery. I was diagnosed 8 years ago and take Victoza and Glimiperide. I am not on insulin. I have read some concerning facts about patients who are 5 years post Sleeve, including 56% excess weiight loss and only 20% still in remission from diabetes. See the post below and link to the JAMA abstract. http://www.meltingmama.net/wls/2015/08/long-term-followup-of-type-of-bariatric-surgery-finds-regain-of-weight-decrease-in-diabetes-remissio.html I would love to hear from diabetics who were sleeved and are at three years or more post surgery. Did you keep the weight off and are you still in remission from your diabetes? I was hoping to go into remission from diabetes for 10-15 years and I am learning that may not be feasible. I don't want to have the bypass as my BMI is 36. Thanks! Joanne

    Having Doubts

Thank you for all the great responses so far. To hear you can eventually have two sips of soda or a few bits of popcorn makes me feel better. I am eating healthy and walking 20 minutes every day. I am focusing on eating more Protein and less carbs. My way of thinking is if I get denied by my insurance, that is a sign that it's not meant to be. If I lose weight in the next few months and my BMI goes below 35, it's not meant to be. I will make a list of pros and cons though as I do think it's helpful. What a great group!
  9. Hi, I'm new here. In 2009, I pursued lap band surgery and stopped the process 2/3 he way through the approval process. I got scared. Looking back, I am glad I didn't do the lap band at that time. I know there are complications now and many had to get their bands removed. Here I am in 2015 with a BMI of 37 and multiple co morbidities. My type II diabetes is getting worse every month. I have sleep apnea and high blood pressure. I am concerned about complications of the surgery, like a leak. I know it's uncommon but it happens. I also have family and friends tell me I can lose the weight on my own. I can, but I can never keep it off. I have been trying for 20 years. I am concerned about not having diet soda, gum, etc. ever again. I hate the word never. From your experience, were you able to have an occasional "never" on the list? I dream about being at goal by next summer and getting off my medications but part of me has doubts. Is it normal to feel this way? PS. I have Cigna insurance and am looking at a November surgery. Thank you! Joanne
