    Lettuce anyone?

I'm 10 weeks out and tried a couple veggies for the first time this weekend. Salad from Olive Garden went down great! Tried broccoli the next day, maybe 1/8 of a cup....three hours of belching, crying, puking pain. I loved broccoli before.....I will never try it again.
  2. I am 10 weeks post op. Ive been an ICU nurse for 2 years and have been working for a resource/float tema on a contract in a step down unit for 6 months. Working 12 hours shifts in a super busy unit is getting to be too much. I'm not able to even get a lunch most days. So I drink a Protein Shake at 6am and then don't eat or drink anything again until 1830 some days. I'm thinking of switching to something a little less demanding. :-(

    Gas pains

It will get better! It will get better! It will get better. The first week everything is slow going. Just try to stay hydrated, don't worry about anything else. Week two things will start going a little faster. It won't take half an hour to take the two tablespoons of Tylenol liquid. I burp constantly when trying to eat even two months out. I did Especially in the beginning though. It is a sign you are trying to fit too much in. I like the gas x pills better than the strips. I also had a lot of acid. Maalox helped a LOT! It will get better. Just make sure you stay hydrated. Super cold stuff went down better for me than warm stuff. You just have to test stuff out and be prepared to vomit, don't push yourself or your pouch. It'll tell you when you're full. Listen to it!! Pain and vomiting follows if you don't listen. It will get better!
  4. I understand. I have a very small sleeve and have had a difficult time meeting calorie requirements. I am 9 weeks and and generally eat 500-700 calories a day. I've lost 71 at this point. I started at 360 pounds. Lost 25 before surgery with three weeks of liquid diet. I don't ever feel hunger. So I totally understand. Just make sure you are making good choices with the little bit of food you're able to eat.

    Calories intake

I drink premier protein shakes. They have 30 grams of protein and only 150 calories. I should also probably tell you that I have a VERY small sleeve. I'm one of those hated people that never ever feel hungry.....just a light headed faint feeling when I miss eating. I work 12 hour shifts. So I drink a protein shake at 6am. Then eat a light Greek yogurt (great value brand, 80 calories, 12 grams of protein) around 10-11am. I eat a cheese stick (6 grams of protein, 50 calories) around 2-3, then drink another protein shake when I leave work at 7pm. When I get home I nibble on whatever my husband had for dinner. Generally I'll have about 3-4 bites of chicken or hamburger or whatever protein he made. I drink to bottles of water while I'm at work then work on a third before I go to bed. I can drink fluids pretty quickly, but can't eat anything thicker than puréed very well. I definitely can't/don't eat bread or starch in any way shape or form. I throw in the 40 calorie fudgesicles, edie's Popsicles 30 calories, Refried beans with cheese and sour cream on days off, cottage cheese. I'm not great with fruits or veggies yet. I hope this helps!!

    Come On Nurses, Let's Conference

I took three weeks off. I had issues with the whole staying hydrated thing and just had to tell my manager what I had done and that I need to keep a water bottle available. I make sure it has a screw on lid and I always date and initial. Haven't had any issues since. Occasionally I can't get away to eat, which I never feel hungry, just start feeling week. I'm big on keeping cheese sticks in my lunch box....at least it is something with some protein that I can eat reasonably quickly. I have lost 70 pounds and my scrubs look huge on me, but I hate to buy anything new when I have another 80 pounds to go.

    Vomitting after a meal

I'm a puker too.....never vomited before the surgery even with the worst stomach bugs. Now it's several times a week. After a panic thinking I had a stricture and 30 minutes on the phone with my doctor I was told it's because I have a very small sleeve. I've also found that I do not tolerate BBQ seasoning in any way shape or form. Or sausage. Also that if I'm eating anything that is not Mushy or puréed then I need to take a Gas X about 3 bites in. But mostly I just stick to protein shakes, yogurt, cheese sticks, and Greek yogurt ice cream bars. Then one or two bites of whatever my husband is eating.

    Calories intake

I am 9 weeks out and get between 80-100 grams of protein. But I chart my intake religiously and only take in around 600-800 calories. I'm 70 pounds down, with 25 of them being from pre op. But I was a self pay so I don't see a nutritionist. Just going off of my bachelors degree in nutrition and nursing degree....that's kinda the same right? Lol

    Night shifter needs help!

I work 7a-7p now as a travel nurse. But I've worked 7p-7a before also. I would wake up at 5pm and get ready and head to work by 5:30....drink a protein shake on the way. I like premier protein, it has 30grams and comes in handy pre made boxes. I then eat about every 3 hours. A Greek yogurt, cheese stick, protein shake. I drink a protein shake on my way home from work. It ends up being around 500-600 calories. Then sleep. But I'm one of those weird people who has no hunger ever. I keep a water bottle wherever I'm chatting and can get two-three down in a shift. I'll drink another before I fall asleep once I get home. Hope this helps
