A NG tube in the case of emergencies is to suction gastric contents. I put them in routinely, and seriously see no issues with putting it in on a sleeved patient. I will research it, and ask a few ER doctors their thoughts about it.

I think it's important because all of the medication they give you for surgery can affect your breathing. Most opiate narcotics cause respiratory depression, then if you add in sleep apnea, it becomes very dangerous.

Versed also has some amnesia properties to it. I am a paramedic, and we give it for seizures.
