the pic on the right is me at 429lbs getting ready to go to see the surgeon for the first time. The pic on the left is me last week at 275lbs trying on a LARGE shirt and finding out it actually fit! I hope the next 6 months are as productive! [emoji4]

are you sure you don't? Have you been checked for sleep apnea or have light stress in continence like when you sneeze? That can be comorbidity! I bet if you go to your PCP they can find you a comorbidity if they look hard enough. I technically didn't have any, but if I had been tested for sleep apnea I am certain I would have come back with it because I would wake up choking and gasping for air and feel tired in the morning.

Don't walk in saying "you screwed up" and list a laundry list of why you know it is so. Make an appt, go into his office and tell him you are concerned and then tell him your reasons why, but just don't be accusatory. It's possible that it was done correct and your anatomy and physiology along with your eating habits have made it otherwise. Part of this is going to be on you though for not measuring out and limiting your portions to begin with despite the lack of restriction, but there may be something else going on and a simple Bariatric swallow test should show if there is an abnormality in the size of your pouch. If it comes back that all is well with your sleeve, you really should follow up with your NUT and psych to make a plan to get back on track, because I have a feeling there is more to the eating a 20oz steak than just in a delightful conversation. Even with a full size stomach I couldn't eat a 20oz steak although it never stopped me from trying. You could be just pushing the food out the bottom into your intestines or something.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Some of us didn't even have a liver shrink diet to begin with! That's right! No liver shrink diet at all and I was HUGE and I did just fine. Just so your best to get right back on the horse and do the best you can with the instructions your surgeon gave you. People screw up, we are human. It's what you do next that determines if you are going to be successful or fail.

I chose rny and I had a really easy and wonderful time with it. I had my 6 month labs done and all was well, no issues with mal absorption. I have great restriction, I was a complete sugar addict pre surgery and having the rny has curbed that because I absolutely do not want dumping syndrome and although I've only come close to dumping twice, that was enough to make me make sure I read my labels and followed my plan to the letter. For me, at my starting weight and knowing my triggers, this was the way to go for me. If rny scares you, even after talking to the surgeon, in the end it's your decision to make. You have to live with the results either way, so choose what makes you feel like you can be most successful and happy with your end results.

I took both and it wasn't til the day I went home that I could even get up to get changed into them because of an oxygen issue. They were great for the ride home though.

Generally if you have severe acid reflux (Gerd) they recommend RNY gastric bypass surgery because the sleeve will generally make the condition worse.

Why do you eat so much at each sitting ?
Cramming food down our gullets isn't really the gameplan is it ?
Your capacity may always be greater than the recommended amounts per meal.

Why are you even trying to eat that much? Measure out your food and put on your plate only what you're supposed to eat.
I would say even go back on liquids for a few days so you can hit the virtual reset button.

How about you confirm he screwed up before accusing him of doing so? Did you have a bariatric swallow test? If not, go get one done- you can clearly see the size of your stomach and compare it to others to determine if your surgeon did indeed do something out of the ordinary. Next, request your patient files- they're yours, they have to give them to you. See what size bougie he used and then compare this to the norm for a patient that is comparable to you.
Much as I am completely fine with calling out a surgeon for being incompetent, I like to make sure that I have documentation that he actually did something wrong before I make myself look stupid for nothing.

First of all, don't stress. Stress raises your cortisol level which then makes more weight pile on. Stay calm. Most programs have a no net gain policy so if you gain 3lbs you gotta lose those 3 lbs to qualify. They just want to see that you can lose weight and maintain it. I too had trouble losing weight pre op. I would lose 10-15lbs and then like them back on without changing a thing. It was frustrating! I kept upping my exercise and Water to make it through mine each time I'd gain 1lb, I'd add 5 more minutes of walking or 15 more sit-ups or whatever just to get through. In the end, I did lose quite a bit of weight before the actual surgery, but it was a fight to keep it off. Now that I'm on the other side, I haven't had those problems anymore and my weightloss has been just amazing! My recommendation is to try to do a low carb high Protein diet with lots and lots and I can't say it enough lots of water! It will prepare you for life after surgery and help with the weight gain.
