Good Luck!!!

Ohkay - now I need to add buying a new grill to my list of needs after my surgery lol - couldn't I just hire one of you to come cook for me?
I was thinking of this burger that my family makes - we call it a Hobo Burger - you can use ground turkey burger - tomatoe slice and onion - we usually put half a potatoe on top - just do it without or add a different veggie like cauliflower and add a clove or two of garlic - add salt/pepper or whatever seasonings you like on your burger - wrap the whole thing in foil and put it on the grill until the burger is done
I'm only able to eat half but sharing was fun too
-
I'm hoping that if i measure it out - and my hand hits bottom with nothing to come up that I will NOT get up and go get more. We'll see. I'm into the sweet types or hot types - just everything in between, I can do naked with minimal salt even. I start my 2 week pre-op next tuesday... this is gonna be a fun ride and honestly I really am looking forward to it even with all the ups and downs I know I'll have.
-
I already know... mine is gonna be popcorn - I'm a popcornaholic. I seriouly am - I can withstand almost everything else turn it down and ignore it... but popcorn... I'll just have to make sure that work extra hard to resist that urge after my surgery.
I can't wait! I'm sooo excited that I finally got my date and start this part of the journey!

Next Year! - I'll be gettin' ready for surgery this year
-
Ohkay - its official! I'm set for surgery on June 14th - go in for my pre-op appointment on the 6th and I start my pre-op liquid diet on the 31st...
-
so... um... what ren fest is he rehearsing for? cause I'd really think I could get a few tomatoes... rotten ones btw... and well *smiles sweetly*
-
How do you over exercise? I don't think I've ever been in danger of that, but might happen as I actually like to workout- just didn't start pushing myself to go until last year

Yup. I got that one repeatedly. My answer was alwaya. "He loves for more than the number on the scale! I guess some of us are just lucky like that."
My favorite was a cashier who, as she was checking me out said, "WOW!! You look really HOT!! Did you get a divorce or something?" I was dressed for our 20th anniversary date.
My other favorite immediately post op was another cashier, same market, who looked at the teeny scoop of seafood salad on my plate next to the teeny scoop of applesauce (I had just hit the soft food stage so my portions were MAYBE a tablespoon or two each) and said, "Girl! You aren't fooling anyone! Clearly you eat more than that!!!!" Yes, I was still really fat.
I almost punched her in the face.
Prior to my "don't make raenh mad pills" - I probably would have. You have a lot more self control
-
I'm to start my pre-op liquid diet on Sunda - two protien shakes and one meal - not sure of the calories, I'll find out today. AND I'll have to go get my band unfilled soonish - which is going to be fun.... I hate that needle.
-
I got approved for my revision!!!!!!!!
*bounces around the room excitedly*
Surgery isn't scheduled yet but I have a tenative date of June 6th or sometime that week
-
They said that it wasn't proven to be medically necesary - I think it was my doctor did not submit Everything they needed - they changed insurance cordinators since then and I got them a log of my gym check ins - because I had to have 6 months of dietary/supervised exercise program, AND show a weight loss...
but guess what... I JUST GOT THE NEWS!!!!!!
I GOT APPROVED!!!! surgery is tenative for June 6th!
-
@@losingtheselumps thank you! me too I was denied already back in december... we'll see what happens this time.
-
Congrats! - I'm waiting on my call - I finally got submitted again on Tuesday keeping my fingers crossed!

and just like any other workout if its not hard enough - you can step it up by making it more difficult - while still in the water!
its an opinion - if you've done it and don't think it worked well for you, that's your opinion because of your experience. however, there are many others here myself included that it did work for.
and us telling her OUR experiences with it and how well it worked is not us holding her hand or lying to her because we are misinformed - we aren't, we are using OUR experiences to help her make her decision. She's a big girl - I'm sure she's adult enough to know what she needs to do to help herself get moving.
Her doctor IS an asshat as someone else claimed by putting down her plan of attack knowing that she has issues with movement now anyhow she'd end up hurting herself if she followed his plan because of her ability to move being limited - he should have encouraged her to start off with that and as she loses weight maybe add in other things - not just boot it down.
-
No worries. If you want hand holding and people to lie to you to make you feel better have at it@@PissiChrissi You're missing part of my plan anyway - I was going to START with Aqua aerobics.. - my end goal is to be able to do an hour of laps at least 4-5 times a week in addition to aqua zumba at least 1-2 times a week.. I have a feeling that will lose the pounds. Also I have an elliptical and I'm not afraid to use - when I get to that point and if I like it - in addition to all those other things. I also have a dog who loves to bike but I haven't been able to do that in quite a while.
But that said.. I can lose the amount of weight I want doing Water exercise - it will not be all aerobics.. but it can be done and will be done and when I do I'm going to write my surgeon a letter with before and after pics and tell him exactly how I lost the weight and if you'd like me to send you one as well I'll be happy to. But unless you're going to support me and all the other people in this thread who lost a lot of weight due to various Water exercises then just take your negative opinion elsewhere please. It's not needed nor desired here.

Uh... Yes, you did claim that we were lying to her, and none of us are holding her hand - we're giving her information just like your trying to do - however, you are misinformed on how much water aerobics can do for weight loss. have you seriously ever tried Running in the water... try doing 10 laps back and forth the length of the pool... I work up more of a sweat and feel way more invigorated after that then I do running on the treadmill!
-
Also, is he trying to push your hard during your honeymoon period of your surgery? Maybe because it's harder to lose after 8-12 months. If you "waste time on water aerobics" during that phase, that might be considered good time lost for him.Ok, so you asked. I know this isn't what you want to hear, and I hate to be the ass in this thread that agrees with the surgeon who everyone now hates, but he is correct. Water aerobics aren't bad for you but you do not exert yourself enough for big numbers to fall off the scale. If you HAVE to do Water due to injuries the best thing to do is laps. Lots of them and fast.
That being said a stationary bike is also ineffective. It might do a little, and yes, it will give your heart rate up which is good for heart health but it will not be very effective at shedding lbs.
Have you tried an eleptical machine? Those are great for low impact.
Your doc might not have a great way of delivering the message, but he's not wrong. Try to not let it get you down and find something that will actually WORK for you! Good luck!!

and obviously not only have you never taken an aqua aerobics class... you've never been on a eliphical machine with bad knees... that crap is NOT low impact - I'd rather walk the treadmill at a 2 incline going 3.5mph... and it hurts until you lose weight to be able to ease up on your joints. Starting off with something that will make you hurt and ache... is NOT conductive to continuing to exercise. However, doing something that doesn't hurt your joints, but gives you a great workout is.
-
I'm afraid to ask - but curious enough to do so anyhow... um... oh nvm... I just figured it out while I was writing this out.
-
I agree - your surgeon sounds like a serious jerk... why are you using him? I wouldn't trust him to do anything to me. I did Water aerobics after I was first banded and that helped me lose a lot of weight It is a serious work out if you get the proper instructors - ones that don't baby you, but won't let you get hurt either.
and I'm seriously considering going back to a gym that has a pool with Water aerobics being offered as I feel I did better workng out that way then with my current regime.

Reading this makes me wonder why so many keep it a secret. I just had my sleeve done April 20. I am blasting all of it on fb. I made this decision with a heavy heart but I knew I had to do it. We should all stand proud of what we've done because there is no shame in saving your own life. Love to all of you!

Everyone gives different answers to this - I think it boils down to not wanting to deal with the ignorance of others because there are some people out there (ohkay quite a lot of people) that no matter what you say or how you explain it - will judge, look down on you, say you took the easy way, ect... And most just don't want to deal with the bs of it all - I give props to those that have the patiance to deal with those types of people - I do and I don't - my friends/family, I deal with their judgements - strangers, yeah I'm not up to doing that with people I really don't give two craps about.
-
Well - this thread got hijacked
I've been lucky that most all my co workers have been really supportive of me wanting to have this surgery done - however, my family and friends... not so much - my mom is like you can do it on your own... oh.. really? then why did I get up to 323 - I was active - walked everywhere when I was working or going to school - it was the off days - my butt did not move. anyhow, got the band lost about 60 - 70lbs... and I'm keeping current at that loss just not going any further.
my sister telling her son - aunt mandyis going to have surgery to be small like mommy... uh... yeah I love my sister - but 240lbs is not small... *sighs*
my other sister - doesn't like it because she's scared of something happening to me - she feels the world will end if I'm not in it to catch her... I get it - she lost daddy and big sis was mommy and daddy to her forever... I get it.
roommate - adament that I'm just a lazy stupid bbbbbbbb is very against me doing this - is angry that I've already had the band done... and blah blah - seriously he acts like he's my boyfriend more then my roommate/friend, but thats a whole other issue...
The OP - honestly I HOPE one of my roommate's gfs are stupid enough to say something like that to me... but then I'm not easily offended by stupid comments - I just look at them like they're stupid and laugh.

Does anyone's goal weight still leave them "overweight" or "obese"?

That site that @@LipstickLady posted a link to is interesting, but I feel some of those pictures show how people seriously do not realize how overweight they are and have unrealistic views of their bodies. I'm sorry - a serious pet peeve of mine is women/girls that choose to wear clothes that are 5 times to small for them just so they can say they are a certain size... when they really should be wearing something that flatters them even as someone that is overweight/obese. I know I'm not saying this right and I apologize if I offend anyone... but things like this just get under my skin a lil bit... because my sister does this and it makes me want to smack her. grant it though she des'tdo it to this extreme but she still does it.

I just don't understand people that think they look good wearing things like that.
