  1. Congratulations! Isn't that a wonderful feeling?! The first time I fit into normal size clothing I thought it was a fluke, so I changed stores and went to a store that caters to younger people. No fluke, I fit into normal size's!!

Bananas are NOT a low carb food

    Sorry, couldn't help myself...

Bananas are NOT a low carb food

I eat fruit in moderation because of the natural sugar in fruit. I do enjoy 1/2 of a banana occasionally. It is a whole food with nutritional value.
  4. I use airborne at the first sign of a cold. I let it sit for a few minutes after dissolving so the fizz settles a little. I also used Musinex D 12 hour pill if I start with a lot of head congestion or coughing.

    Food journal

You have to go to nutrition at the bottom. Click that and your totals will pop up.

I use My Fitness Pal, it does give you a total of the proteins.

How much time did you take off work?

I work in the medical field. I applied for FMLA and short term disability. I took off the full 6 weeks my surgeon suggested. I had pushing, pulling and lifting restrictions. I am glad I took 6 weeks off to heal. I walked every day during the six weeks I was off. I think the amount of time you need to take off depends on the type of job you do. If you sit at a desk all day and work on a computer you will probably be able to go back sooner. If your job requires a lot of physical stuff it will be longer.
  8. I was cleared for strength training at the gym at 6 weeks. My trainer did not let me specifically target my abs until 6 months when my surgeon cleared me for that.

What Gets You Going for Your Workout?

I go straight to the gym after work. Most days I don't feel like it but I go anyway. Once I'm done I always feel energized and happy that I went.
  10. Yes, that makes perfect sense. Thanks for the clarification.
  11. Recently, there have been several instances of members being disrespectful or downright rude. Examples include: Stating or implying that a poster is doomed to failure or not ready for WLS because he or she asked a certain question or is engaged in a certain behavior. Telling people that your way is the only way, and any other way means the member deserves WLS failure. Discriminating against “newbies,” such as letting a newbie know that you don’t think he or she will succeed, or asking only “vets” to reply to a certain thread. (Reminder: you can always choose not to follow the advice of someone you deem unqualified to give it). So asking for advice from veteran's who have gone before and know how to handle situations from experience is now considered disrespectful and rude? I recently asked for advice from veteran's on how to handle a work happy hour I was invited too. Not sure how that is disrespectful and/or rude. I feel like I am in limbo here now. I'm not a newbie and not far enough along to participate in the veteran's forum. Very frustrating!
  12. My boss wants to take us out after work for happy hour. I am almost 7 months out from gastric bypass and have not tried any alcohol yet. Is there anything safe I can order? What would you do or what have you done in this situation. I want to go and have fun with the group I'm just not sure how to handle it.

Need advice from gastric bypass veterans

I may order water with lemon. I was also thinking of ordering about 4 ounces of wine over ice or watered down. If I sip it slowly and order something with protein to eat at the same time I might be ok. The idea of watered down wine is not very appealing though. lol

Need advice from gastric bypass veterans

Non-alcohlic is fine but I don't want to drink sugar or carbonation either. I am so thankful for the life changing surgery I had. I suppose not being able to enjoy a social drink with friends is a small aspect of post surgery life.

    Did I make a mistake?

Your body just went through a major surgery. You are in the healing phase. Each day things will get better. Make sure you are getting up and walking often. If you have someone to go with you get outside and walk. Each day try to go a little farther. Make sure you sip sip sip all day long. The whole constipation thing was the one thing that made me wonder if I did the right thing. I am down 83 lbs at 6 months out though. My only regret is not having done it years ago. I hope you start feeling better soon.
  16. At my 6 month post gastric bypass follow up my labs were all good except my GFR came back low. I have never had kidney issues before. I was thinking about trying to get more protein in from plant sources. If you are post GB surgery and are vegetarian are you able to get in the recommended grams of protein per day? If so what is your main source of protein? Thanks in advance.

    Bread!

At my 6 month follow up my Nut recommended to start adding in whole grains. I tried a piece of Ezekiel sprouted flax seed bread toasted for lunch. It was very good and I had no problems. I have steel cut oats planned for Breakfast.

    When to start B12

Nasal B12 is weekly! The sublingual B12 is daily.

    Bread!

I was trying to find the Alvarado sprouted flax because it is lower in calories but my store did not have it.

    When to start B12

Follow whatever your Dr. tells you but if it is nasal B12 it's not going through your GI track so I would think you are safe to take it now.

    SEARCHING!

I really like the Oh Yeah One bar- Almond Bliss. It reminds me of an Almond Joy.
  22. Yes, I tried it before gastric bypass surgery. It's the approach Chris Powell uses. I found it too difficult. As someone as already said I don't count calories anymore just protein, carbs and fat grams. After surgery I got rid of all my books on dieting. Chris Powell's book was one of them. To break your stall you could try doing a day of protein shakes. I felt sick one day and just did shakes and dropped two pounds after being stuck for a few weeks.
  23. I had to stop all Vitamins and supplements for a week due to an outpatient surgery. All along I thought that my horrendous constipation was due to the high Protein low carb eating. What I discovered this week, is that without the vitamins I go with ease like a normal person. It was amazing! It's the vitamins that are causing me so much trouble in the poop department! Is there a brand that is not so constipating? Maybe I should switch brands. I am currently taking BariActiv multi-Vitamin and the caramel Calcium chews with D3 from Bariatric Advantage. I checked the multi's and I do not see Iron on the list. Maybe it's the calcium chews?

    Incidental discovery

Thanks, I've been using Sam's Club softener. I probably need to up the water intake to get it to work better.
