    interesting...5 days post op

I'm with ya girl...the day after i got home from the hospital I started my period. In addition to the horrible gas pain, I had to deal with period pain. I needed the pain meds at that point. Thankful I wasn't on my period WHILE in the hospitalI
  2. If you can use FLMA, yes, I'm pretty sure the above posts are correct. FMLA is a federal law, they can't deny you leave for a medical condition, whether it's an optional surgery or not. The only issue you may run into is regarding your desire to not let your boss know WHY. I say this because on the FMLA forms, your doctors address, phone number, etc is required. If he is strictly a bariatric surgeon and you have nosy people in your office, it won't be hard to figure out. Additionally some of the questions, depending on how the doctor's office fills them out, may give away your secret as well. You can let your surgeons office know to give the least information possible but there is a section on there that asks about symptoms, diagnosis, etc. Because of the circumstances of your job situation, if you can use FMLA, that is what I would do. It cannot be denied. They will have to figure out how the work will get done on their own, not your worries. However, I don't know the rules if you would want to take vacation, pto, annual leave or whatever type of leave your company grants.

    Surgery W/ No Cpap

I was told like a thousand times to bring it when I had surgery but they did not use it in surgery. When I arrived at the hospital someone came and took the machine. I asked why and she said "it has to be checked out since it was brought from home." I assume they were checking it to make sure it worked properly so they would have no liability if I died from sleep apnea while in the hospital! After my surgery, I put it on both nights but used it under 4 hours per night. The nurses did not make me wear it as I thought they would. It was hard becasue so many people coming in and out of my room during the night.

    FMLA

I'm using vacation time for my surgery however, I did have to use FMLA for another medical condition. My particular company required me to use five of my own days before FMLA kicked in. So for me those days I had to use prior to surgery were not covered. Once FMLA kicked in, of course all of the post op visits are covered under FMLA. You will just have to ask the company your work for what their policy is.
  5. I have been on Nexium for about 15 years. I was sleeved on 2.15. Every since the surgery I have been starving. The hunger never goes away. It feels like I haven't eaten in a week 24 hours a day. My stomach is growling/rumbling very frequently and burning at times. There has been no acid to come up in my throat. Twice I had gurgling in my throat.. I thought my Nexium needed to be increased (taking 40 mg). Additionally, I never feel full regardless of how much water I drink or protein I consume per day. I was not prepared to deal with this hunger all the time. It is a gnawing hunger pain. I understand the fullness may not present itself until I start eating food. I just hope something is not wrong. I am also able to do way more than sip water. I went to see my surgeon yesterday thinking maybe my Nexium needed to be increased. However, instead of increasing it he told me to stop it stating I should no longer have GERD now. Based on my research some doctors even require a PPI after surgery for a short time.I will not stop the Nexium. I am really confused. My doctor has been a bariatric surgeon for 16 years. I would assume he knows what he is doing. The only reasonable explanation I can muster up is he is such a busy surgeon he was confused and thought he did bypass surgery on me. I've lost 13 lbs in two weeks but I've been miserable in the meantime. I am very discouraged. In fact I saw a PCP provider this morning (who also had the surgery) and he said he doesn't understand the hunger either. Any insight would be appreciated.
  6. Hi sbj224. Thanks for your response. I am meeting or exceeding my Protein and Fluid goals. Can I ask were you hungry all the time, to the point where you were miserable and would eat an entire pizza if you knew it wouldn't kill you? OR at least make you wish you were dead? Yes, you are right. I have friends who didn't want to eat for months after surgery. You said your hunger has changed 7 months out I am jealous. How so? Has the hunger lessened? It does make me feel a bit better you were hungry as well. I did the best job I could preparing myself for this surgery and I just didn't expect this! Exactly VSGANN2014 ---I thought the PPI was to help you heal as well!

    The BEST meatloaf

Thank you. This even looks easy enough for someone who never has cooked (that would be me).

There is poop and I cant poop

Make sure you are drinking plenty of Water, tea, etc. Hard stool is normally dry stool, and laxatives work I believe by making your intestine secrete more water into the waste. Thanks. I am drinking my 64 oz of water a day, unfortunately I hate tea so sticking to the water.

    Pain level

Agree with prior post. I had surgery a week ago and although I knew the gas pain would be bad, never expected it to be THAT bad. Worst pain ever. Everyone is different though. My friend came home only taking Tylenol and I'm still on pain meds. Nothing you can do to prepare for it and when it comes walk, walk, walk to help with the gas and prevent blood clots.

    Physical jobs and time off

I'm one week post op and have a desk/driving job and I'm taking off two weeks. There's no way I could go back right now. Since you have a physically demanding job, I agree with the prior posts, four weeks at a minimum but I would take 6 weeks to be sure.

There is poop and I cant poop

Surgery on 2.15, haven't had a bowel movement since 2.12. Stool softners don't work. Will be trying something else. Completely miserable.

How Much Stomach is Taken Out?

I've read that this could be reflux, try taking an anti acid and see if that works. Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App I am on Nexium and have been for about 15 years.

    Still not hungry

What you're experiencing may be acid reflux not hunger? I've read on alot of these posts that the "hunger" feeling is that since the area that produces grehlin the hunger hormone is no longer present in your body. Sent from my SM-G920P using BariatricPa @@mamamichelle716 - I am on Nexium and have been for about 15 years. Is it additional reflux? I don't know. Going to the dr. on Tue. Will be asking!

How Much Stomach is Taken Out?

When I had my preop class last week, I asked the NP how much of my stomach would the surgeon be removing; she said 80-85%. i am now 5 days post op and it feels like he removed 0% of my stomach. I constantly have a gnawing hunger pain, like I haven't eaten in a month. My stomach growls ALL THE TIME. I am starving. Researched this and apparently it is normal but this is a problem I was NOT expecting to deal with after surgery. At least if I was dealing with nausea I could take a pill for it. Nothing to do for wanting to eat the a** end of a cow!

    What Y'all Think- II

I personally think it is horrible for people to judge others when they have been in the same situation previously. There is a term for that and it is called HYPOCRITE. I don't like someone judging me based on what I look like and I would not do it to someone else. Even watching "My 600 lb Life" I never wonder how someone could get that big because the fact is I could have been that very person. Does that mean these people don't need some help? No, it doesn't but you help these people if they ask for help. I would never assume they want to change and impose myself upon them when they are not at the point of wanting to make a change. Also, I don't think one should assume when they see a obese/morbidly obese person they don't want to make a change. Maybe they really want to have surgery and their insurance doesn't cover it and they have no resources to self pay. Maybe they are a single parent who has no support/family to watch their kids while they do all the preop work and have the surgery. I could go on and on.....

    Taking meds

Every surgeon is different. For me I was not allowed to take any medications the night of my surgery (which was on Monday, 2.15) but everything was back to normal on Tue morning. I didn't have any problems when I started taking meds again.

    Anyone had their surgery cancelled?

Did the surgeon give your friends husband a nicotine test prior to the surgery???? Sent from my LG-D850 using Tapatalk No, he didn't have to because he admitted he had not stopped.

    Still not hungry

Hi @ @ Yes, I am taking a PPI, Nexium, I have been on it for about 15 years. I know hunger can be mistaken for acid so unless I'm having acid with no symptoms, I don't think that is the issue. However, I have thought about going and buying an OTC PPI to take in addition to the Nexum to see if it works. Other than this, I don't have any idea WHY I can be so hungry ALL THE TIME, especially when I get upwards of 75-80 g Protein a day. Very frustrated.

Did anyone not have a drain?

Well it looks like I am in the minority on this post...was sleeved Monday and I have a drain. It is a b****! Not much of anything is going into the drain becasue it is leaking on my clothes. Can't wait to have it removed. I was warned about the drain through a few people who had one....and they were not kidding.
  22. I had a wicked sinus infection that turned into bronchitis the day my endoscopy was scheduled. I called the surgeon and he didn't see an issue with placing me under anesthesia to do the scope. As bad as I felt, I pushed through driving 3 hours one way and waiting on him for four hours. It wasn't easy but I was glad to get it done. I don't think he will care about your toe.

    Anyone had their surgery cancelled?

My surgery is Monday but just today my friends husband was supposed to have surgery but he cannot give up his tobacco (snuff) so it was cancelled ....by the surgeon. Not a shocker. He should've known.

PTSD or Compulsive Eating Disorder Sleevers?

Yep, in the same situation as you with regard to the PTSD. I knew I had suffered from PTSD in the past 25 years but after starting therapy 18 months ago I realized I was still suffering from it, just to a lesser degree than in the past. I know I cannot get through this without staying in therapy. I have made significant changes already with significant health benefits. My therapist said she wish all of her clients worked half as hard as me so I guess I am doing something right. I'm pretty sure I'll never live PTSD free though. PM if you want to talk.
