  1. I've struggled with the same question as I'm sure most on this page have, but here's what I've decided. I'm one month post op, so I may change my mind as I lose more weight. To this point I've only told people who were impacted directly, husband, kids, my mom, who I take care of, etc. And 2 close friends that I knew would be supportive. My husbands family is very judgemental so I will probably never tell them. Right now I have no desire to be the poster child for WLS and I'm not thinking about how I can help others. My focus right now is me and protecting my feelings, issues etc. It's funny but I think WLS is one of the only surgeries where we're made to feel like if we don't disclose it, we're being deceptive. Good luck with your surgery and your decision to tell or not. Just keep in mind that you don't owe it to anyone to tell. And once you do tell, you can't untell it.

    Coworker outed me

WLS surgery is a medical procedure. IMHO it was not your coworkers responsibility to add her comments. Obviously, she wanted to call you out. You don't owe anyone a full disclosure on how you lost the weight. If you're sensitive about this than so am I, as I cringed when I read your post. On the positive, your weight loss is showing enough for people to notice!

    Omg food

The first time you ignore your tummy and listen to your head and eat too much and throw up, you'll probably not think your head is so smart! I tell you this from experience.
  4. During the 2 weeks post op it seemed as if every commercial was for something with bacon.

    3 times 10 does not equal 70!

My Dr. has his patients drinking Protein shakes daily for a year after surgery. That way you're sure to get enough protein. Your body needs it to heal and it keeps you full. I'm still in the mushy stage but with the shakes and 2 meals, I rarely get hungry. I'm supposed to be having 3 meals but can never get the third one in.
  10. To all of you struggling. The lead up to surgery is the hardest part. Once you have it your stomach will be smaller and it will get better. I cheated a bit prior to surgery and doubted my commitment too. But since then i wont say its been a walk in the park but its definitely easier when hunger isnt working against you. One thing i did when i was starving pre surgery was googling before and after pics. It kept me motivated when all i could think about was food.
  11. One other thing that kept me going was that my head felt clearer. I had always attributed my brain fog to getting older. I'm not sure if it was from the sugar or carbs, but when I started just drinking the shakes my mind cleared up! That showed me that it really does make a difference in what we put in our bodies.
  12. I cheated some before I had my surgery. BUT, I would only have a piece of cheddar cheese, or a small piece of grilled chicken. Something without carbs, and something I could chew. The closer I got to surgery, especially the last three days, I followed everything to a T. Niki, I cried the first day. And until surgery, could have chewed someones arm if they had stuck it in front of my mouth! I was where you are just a month ago, and it does get better and it's worth it! You ladies can do this!
  13. How much are you eating/drinking?
  14. You can play with the flavorings in protein shakes. I added decaf instant crystals, tsp stevia, drop of vanilla and some unsweetened chocolate powder to the Baratric Advantage shakes. Even my daughter said it tasted like a frappaccino. I'm 18 days post surgery and the pre op was the hardest part so far. I literally cried my first day because I didn't think I would make it. My dr allowed sf Popsicles and sf jello, up to 3 a day and that helped. Just remember, if you're going to cheat, which I'm not advocating, make sure it's all protein. Good Luck to all of you, it so worth it!
