  1. Your feelings as you approached surgery echoed mine EXACTLY! I had mine December 1. There are still moments when I have to pinch myself to remind myself that i actually did it and am on the other side! Let us know how it's going for you!

    4 weeks. Solids

I don't eat solids until week seven
  3. I don't have to start calcium till four weeks out so I haven't had to deal with it yet. There are plenty of other things to focus on this week--protein, liquids etc!

I had the RNY on 12-01-15

I also had the RNY on December 1. I don't live in your area but we can compare notes!
  5. I discovered a flavored Water called "Fruit 2 O" that I purchase at Sam's Club. It's distributed by Sunny Delight. You might want to check it out. It comes with raspberry, strawberry, grape, and lemon flavors. I like it better than some of the other flavored waters. I also use carnation instant Breakfast (no sugar added) with a cup of milk for breakfast. That helps my liquids. I also started adding a scoop of unjury Protein this morning, so it was 34 grams of protein, too! Some people say we're not really absorbing more than 25g in an hour but...i don't know anything about that. i also drink a pure Protein Drink once a day and that has 35 grams in it. So between those two, i meet the protein requirement without any problem. I had my RNY on December 1, so i'm right there at the same place you are.
  6. Well, it's oVER~and i'm really glad! Had the surgery Tuesday morning, came home late this afternoon. I'm doing ok, but i do have pain in my abdomen, for sure. I'm taking pain pills for that. People say it gets better "every day," so I'm holding them to it! This first week, I am only on Clear liquids, so I'll be drinking my meals. No Protein yet though. Just Water, diet no carbonation drinks, diluted juices, Jello squares (no sugar), sf popsicles, broth. I already did Tuesday, Wed, and Thursday, so only four more days of this phase. I'm looking forward to the "full liquids" stage! I see the surgeon Monday morning and he removes the "drain" then. It's gross and disgusting and I can't wait for it to be gone! Someone said "that was the worst part!" I didn't have ANY Nausea this time, and I've always had that. They gave me meds for it and a patch under my ear, too. It worked! The people were so wonderful...it was a positive experience, with NO complications! I'm so thankful. So here I am, with altered insides, trying to figure out what I'm going to eat for the rest of my life! LOL The first few weeks will be easy; my bariatric center tells me exactly what I can eat. I like that. So all of you who have upcoming surgeries...relax! I was awake when they prepped me and the minute they started wheeling me away, I was out, not to wake up again until i was in my hospital room (not that I can remember anyway). Good luck to everyone who is looking forward to their surgeries!

@@Djmohr What happened when you tried eggs? Did it make you throw up? I love the idea of eating what everyone else is eating, just puree it. What about sugar content in spaghetti sauce, etc?
  9. @@MNjulie, I've read that bread and pasta are difficult after a gastric bypass surgery. Are others eating bread and pasta after surgery?

  11. I'm having mixed emotions tonight. I start the ten day pre-surgical diet tomorrow. I feel like this is the last night of my life to eat...sugar. I'm having the gastric bypass, and it doesn't mix well with sugar. Which is exactly why I chose THAT surgery. Yet, I feel sad tonight. Sugar has been a comforting friend for 61 years...and I don't even think I can comprehend what my decision to have RNY is going to mean as far as that sugar addiction goes. I have read that it will go away once I stop eating it. I sure hope that is true! I have had "many" food funerals in the last few weeks. Fortunately, I only gained 7 pounds. Could have been so much worse. I feel like I'm in this huge BATTLE, thinking I'm never going to be able to eat again. I know that's not true, as far as many foods go, but it probably is true with foods like I love like ice cream, pastries, chocolate....but those are the foods that got me to 300 pounds, too. Again. So, I'm saying goodbye to the old life and am truly excited, although it may not sound like it, with what's ahead. Now to make it through the next few "hunger" days on the limited diet....but...ONE DAY AT A TIME.
  12. I'm going to start a new thread about the surgery!

    Pre op diet

I am finishing day six tonight, Thanksgiving Day. I admit I cheat a tiny bit today. Dr said I could have turkey so that wasn't cheating. There were no clean veggies there nor fruit so i had one bite of dressing, one bite of green bean casserole, and 1/2 of a piece of sweet potatoe, and a roll w/butter. I don't feel too guilty. I was not perfect but I wanted so so much more. i feel like I made the best of a difficult situation. I sat with the family and ate thanksgiving dinner. No one commented on my plate. Did NOT have pumpkin pie. I skipped one of the Protein shakes but when i got home tonight, had one. Back to business for the last four days....then surgery is TUESDAY! Lost 9 pounds so far.
  14. FOUR more days! i am very excited, scared...but looking forward to it! DECEMBER 1
  15. Well, today is day five and I've been about 95% compliant with the pre-surgery diet. And I've lost nine pounds so far, in just four days. I'm very happy with that. it's all i had gained in my food funerals and more, and i have five more days to keep losing weight before surgery on December 1. My hubby has pneumonia so I'm trying to stay away from him. That's all i need; to get sick and have to postpone surgery. But...one day at a time. Tomorrow will be challenging. I am allowed to have some lean turkey and veggies and one carb serving. I may take a bite of a couple other things...but I will be very selective. Five more days!
  16. @WLSResources/ClothingExch.....LOL. No dumplings allowed!
  17. @ButtercupBubbles--it is scary to think of the unknown. I agree. But i've read about 4-5 books, spent dozens of hours online watching you tube video testimonials and reading bariatric pal, and talking with about 10 people who have had a WLS, and almost all of them said it was the best thing they ever did, many say they only wish they had done it sooner. Very, very few regret it...hardly any, actually, even those who had complications. Don't talk yourself out of it! You're going to feel SO much better!
  18. @@NYLux12, i'm finishing day two of the liver-shrinking diet and it's going well! I was able to use carnation instant breakfast packets (no sugar added) with 8oz of skim milk. I drink five a day. I put them in the blender, add ice, and add flavoring (sugar free) to the french vanilla flavor and it is sooooo yummy. I don't feel deprived. I can also have 250 calories a day of selected fruits and veggies, so i'm not feeling hungry, and so far so good. Only eight more days and then SURGERY!
  19. @Jenny_Baldwin. I'm one of the "lucky" ones who is doing the presurgery diet this week, including thanksgiving day. My surgeon and NUT told me i could have some lean turkey, a nonstarchy veggie, and one carb....so at least i can have something on my plate. I will include lettuce, tomatoe, cucumber and use some Walden Farms (zero calorie) dressing too, so actually, my plate will be quite full. And I'll have to look the other way for all of the other stuff there....i am MOTIVATED TO SUCCEED! It's just a day, just another thanksgiving meal. I've had a bunch of them. : )
  20. @@Jenny_Baldwin, i feel the same paranoia about getting a cold...especially since my hubby has been sick for two weeks with one! So many around me have been sick, and i would be so incredibly disappointed if my surgery had to be postponed. But...one day at a time. Today has enough trouble of its own! Good luck!
  21. Thanks @@WLSResources/ClothingExch! Got it! Thanks so much!
  22. Day Two...no problems! i thought I would be hungry but i'm definitely not. AND...my scale was four pounds down this morning after just ONE DAY. I know it's probably all Water but i don't care. It made me happy! Thanks for the encouragement and "harshness," I don't know how to tag someone here or I would!
  23. I'm December 1st too! A week from this coming Tuesday!!!!! I'm doing the presurgery diet, had the first day today. Moving right along....excited.

    Pre-Op liquid diet

I just started my pre-surgery diet today and I survived! I am not hungry. I am able to use five carnation instant no sugar added packets a day, with a serving of specific fruit (1/2 c) and a serving of specific veggies (1/2 c cooked; 1 c raw).So I'm still able to chew and have "real food," however limited. I think it will be doable. I feel fine. I AM running to the bathroom more often though! I bought unjury Protein power (unflavored) too, from my bariatric office. I like that it can be added to any liquid and get some of the protein in for the day. I will start using that after surgery. Thanks for the Premier Protein tip, too.
