@@tdawntaylor I don't understand the 2oz per hour requirement. I was drinking much, much more than that, even in the hospital. I haven't had trouble drinking; in fact, I've been surprised that I haven't had to take itsy bitsy little sips. I'm not guzzling or gulping, but I take a normal drink. Then I take another one. And maybe another one. And I keep doing that throughout the day, when I can. I only need to drink two Protein shakes a day (12 oz) so that helps. hang in there and happy drinking!

SO Tired of Protein Drinks!
bugsy72 replied to bugsy72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Ryan TN Someone here had mentioned Lifefair milk which had 13g of protein per cup. it's more expensive but I tried it. I liked it. So maybe I'll use that. I already eat greek yogurt (but 1/4 c has only 4 grams of protein). As I can eat more, i'll be able to get more protein in, other than the drinks or shakes. I do have SF caramel and gingerbread flavoring, and add protein to my carnation instant breakfast powder, and ice; so i do make my own shakes already. Still so tired of them. I did it for ten days prior to surgery too, so 34 days now.... -

Woodstock, IL with Dr. Heydari. He's wonderful and I have complete trust in him. So I shall do as he says! I did find out that i can have "smashed" cottage cheese and applesauce now though, during the "pureed food" two weeks. Woohoo. Had a smashed scrambled egg (four bites) this morning too. Tastes so good to have real food again, even though just a little bit. Merry Christmas to all! -

@@Mrs_B_12/16/15 Yes, when i moved from "clear liquids" to "full liquids," I can have creamed Soups that are strained. So I buy the chunky Soup clam chowder and like i said, give hubby all of the good stuff, and I keep the creamy delicious liquid part after it has been strained. It tastes just delicious and one can lasts for about 3 meals : ) Don't eat too much though; it's easy to do because it tastes so good. Have to remember how tiny your stomach is now! I made that mistake once of eating and drinking too much too fast and i felt absolutely awful for hours. -

@@Mrs_B_12/16/15 After the clear liquids week, I was thrilled to be able to eat soup! i buy the good stuff and strain all of the chunks out of it (hubby gets those) and i just have the liquid, but oh my, that liquid is sooooo tasty! I especially like clam chowder. I move to the "pureed" stage Wednesday, so i have to figure out exactly what that means! Hang in there...this is just for a short time....and soon we'll have many more choices. Gotta let that pouch heal! -

Surgery in Chicagoland on Dec 1.... It's Finally Here
bugsy72 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After attending the information session in July, I've jumped through many hoops. I didn't have to do the six month diet, and I'm happy about that, but there were so many things to cross off. But i respect my doctor and group for being thorough and safe. So now, the day is almost here. I go in Monday for the "type and screen" blood test. Then I arrive Tuesday morning at 6:30 a.m. for the BIG EVENT. i feel like I've been responsibly doing all of the requirements, but now IT'S HERE. I'm not having doubts but realizing once again what a change I'm in for in the next few months, especially. I'm looking forward to the weight loss, of course. But I'm going to turn into one of "those" kind of eaters, you know, the ones who hardly eat anything. That is going to be so new and different for me, and so challenging. i'm a closet eater. i don't eat large amounts in front of people. So I'm going to have to find other things that make me happy when I used to reach for food. I have a few things on my list. So, stay tuned. It's (almost) here!!! -
So I'm just 17 days post op and the pounds fell off in the beginning, something every single day, it seems. For the past five days I've stayed about the same. What's up with that? I'm hardly eating anything yet the scale isn't showing it? Does my body just need some adjustment time or something? I lost about 12 pounds prior to surgery with the pre-diet and I've lost 13 more pounds since surgery. Just curious....
-
So after my rant, I thought I'd let you know the scale moved today, like two and a half pounds. Yay! Consistency and patience are definitely the words of the day/week/month/year/lifetime!

RNY on Monday 12/14 some unexpected things

You're so welcome! i always drink flavored Water.... i like the kind Sam's Club offers called "fruit 2 O." It goes down much more easily than regular water. Occasonally i drink normal water but more often, it's the flavored stuff. I'm glad things are going better! -

@@Klolojadie, congrats on your surgery. It's over! You're on the other side! : ) I was surprised by how much pain I was in right at first, too. But it goes away with each passing day. You'll see. I'm two weeks out now, and my middle section is a bit tender, but I quit pain syrup quite a while ago, even at night. As for fluids, I count everything i drink as Fluid. So my Protein shakes give me about 27 oz alone. I make a carnation instant Breakfast (low sugar) shake with milk and ice, and it grows to about 16 oz. Then the 11 oz bottle of Premier Protein gets me to 27. I usually drink two bottles of Fruit2-0 during the day. It's flavored Water, 16 oz ea, so that gets me to 59 ounces. Just a few ounces of other liquid like a little diluted juice puts me over 60. And that's how *I* get my fluids in! -

Well, I had my first challenge tonight. I think I ate too much too fast and then my stomach felt very full and bloated. I was gone all afternoon and didn't have anything to eat (bad planning). So when I got home I felt like I had to catch up but I keep forgetting the size of my pouch! Lesson learned. I will do better. -

@@Lisee45 You're doing great! I had my RNY on Dec 1, too. I lost some in the pre-surgery diet and all in all, i'm down 24 pounds. It's like a pound a day for me now, too. I lost more in the beginning, which makes sense. But I have a lot more to lose than you do, too.And like I said, that includes ten days pre-surgery, all the way to today. I'm still on full liquids (creamed Soups, yogurt etc) but move to pureed on Dec 23 and can start having even more choices. It's so exciting, like "Christmas!" hahahahaha... I also have had no problems with eating or drinking, so far. Good luck! -
I'm 61 and had RNY on Dec 1. I'm feeling great--it's only been 12 days. I lost 22 pounds so far with pre-diet and post surgery loss. Woohooo! I also have 3 grandkids and want to be around for them. I also have a disabled adult daughter and NEED to be around a long time to help her as well. Lots of reasons. I have no regrets with the surgery yet. I hope I don't ever have regrets!

I think my doctor must be conservative, protecting the pouch....allowing it time to heal. That's what I was told. I had one week of clear liquids, now I'm on two weeks of "full liquids." Then two weeks of pureed. Then one week of "soft" like cottage cheese, applesauce etc. THEN...week seven...normal foods as tolerated. -

My dr chooses not to remove it. He said 1 in 4 have problems but 3 in 4 do not, so he doesn't feel he should routinely remove it during weight loss surgery.
