    3 Days before my VSG.

I was 345 when I went into surgery... I have lost 20lbs since the surgery and 46 since beginning my 2 week all liquid diet pre op. I think I have hit the post op stall... I haven't lost any this week but I am also struggling getting in my Water and Protein minimums. I am hoping once I can make that happen, that I can get the scales going away.
  2. I had that as well right after surgery. They told me to take Colace each day post surgery so as soon as I started with the loose bowel movements, I quit taking it and that solved it for me.

    Water Advice!

I absolutely love Water... I've had a lot of bad eating habits but water is my one healthy habit lol I just want to chug, chug, chug but can't lol Thank you for all of the tips! I am a bit fearful of drinking more but I think I am under estimating what I can get in there! Hoping to start reaching 64 oz very soon!
  4. I am by no means frustrated with the weight loss, that keeps me feeling good! Just struggling a little bit with balancing nutrition and Water.... trying to introduce the foods on my list from the doc. Some go well, some don't. All very normal frustrations at this phase but I just often get that feeling of "Maybe this was the wrong thing to do...." Just trying to left myself up from that feeling and be a little more future focused. Appreciate the message of support!

I was in your shaking boots just a few short weeks ago. You will do great! I was so scared I started tearing up in the operating room. What felt like only moments later, I was awake and recovery in the hospital was a breeze! I had some morphine when I first woke up but spend the night in the hospital with no additional pain meds and didn't have to take any when I arrived home. You will do awesome!!! Best of luck to ya on your journey!

    New here!

I am not in the same stage... I just completed my surgery on June 10th. But welcome to the forum! Hope you enjoy all of the wonderful information the site has to offer. It has been such a blessing to me already... so glad I stumbled across it!
  7. I am where you are right now. I had my surgery on June 10th so I am almost 3 weeks post op. Week three has been a complete stall for me. I am just trying to focus on getting more Water and Protein. I feel like I am probably carrying more water weight than usual as prior to surgery I drank gallon plus of water a day and now I am bustin' my butt to try to get the minimum, which I usually miss. In my mind, I assume the body is adjusting to the very low calories and compensating by hanging onto the weight. From everything I read, you just keep doing what you need to do and the scale will start moving again. So that is my plan!
  8. When I had mine she asked a lot about my motivators for the surgery, what my plans are for success and maintaining, asked a lot of questions surrounding depression or a history of depression and did an assessed of my support system post surgery.
  9. I also use MyFitnessPal... I especially love it because if you are eating out somewhere, you can usually look up the calories for the meal and help you to make informed decisions even while on the road and dining out.
  10. I'm almost three weeks out and hit a stall. I lost a quick 20lbs right after the surgery and now I am holding firm. I too step on the scale every single more... sometimes night and morning. I know it's not a great thing to do but when it does move... it makes my entire day! lol I just keep doing what I am to be doing, trying to get in Water and protein! Hang in there!

What a mess! That is certainly shady... just making members jump through unidentified hoops to get care. Hope you are able to get the info you need from the insurance company!
  12. So sorry that has happened to you. I can imagine that being difficult news with all of the preparation and anticipation. I thought mine was going to be postponed and they ended up being able to squeeze me in that evening. So I have some idea of that feelings you are feeling! Hang in there! It will be here soon and you will be on your way!

    A new life journey...

Welcome to the forum, Karen! I was just sleeved on 6/10 so I am pretty new to everything as well! Excited and scared is the norm, I think. I felt the exact same way! So far things are going pretty well! Hope you enjoy the information you find here and best wishes to you on your journey!

I just looked up their medical policy on WLS - yes, it is very, very vague! It lists no clinical criteria at all. However, it does references Interqual (this is a program that houses criteria that needs to be met). Your doc may have access to Interqual? Doctors offices often contact insurance companies for their criteria and interpretations of policies, that shouldn't be too out of the ordinary - this helps the doctors office to know how to bill in order to have it covered. If you continue to run into difficulties even with a manager in customer service- you may want to ask for someone in Medical Policy or a Medical Director in Medical Management. I work in medical policy for an insurance company.

    Just Getting Started

Such a wonderful thing that your company has decided to cover the surgery as a benefits. It is such a valuable tool and does so much good for those who pursue it. So glad you are able to get started!

    117 lbs down! 7 months out :)

AMAZING! You look great! I have a feeling you if you want to get to 140, you can do it!!!
  17. I'd go with what your surgeon says. I did two weeks but the clinical I went to does that based on BMI. A lot of people going to same clinical as me didn't have to do a pre-op diet at all. They simply had to stop eating and drinking 12 hours before surgery. But you doc knows what they need you to do, so I'd be comfortable following his/her instructions.

It's really hard to say... people lose weight at such different rates. But if you follow you doctors instructions, I am sure you will be feeling and looking great! Good luck to ya on your journey!

    Gallbladder out - who else

I had mine out a few years ago. Recovery was pretty quick and simple. I thought my post surgery pain was a little bit more than the sleeve but only due to the location of the middle incision (right at my navel).
  20. I had very little pain with my sleeve... I didn't even take any pain meds once arriving home and didn't have much in the hospital either. I had gall bladder surgery and had an incision at my navel... my sleeve incision is much higher than the navel. I'd say my gall bladder surgery gave me more pain than my sleeve... but I didn't feel like that was too bad either. Good luck to you in making your decision; I know it's hard.
  21. I have a BCBS plan and it required six months. I saw a dietician every month for six months. The weight loss clinic you are attending should know how to get your surgery paid - it's part of what they do. I'd discuss it with them as well as your insurance company. That's if you want to make sure you don't run into any issues.
  22. I was sleeved on 6/10. I never rated my pain higher than a 2... and it probably wasn't even that. It, of course, only hurt when I was getting out of bed but once I was up I felt pretty good. When I came out from anesthesia I was terribly nauseated and felt some pain and they hit me up with some good stuff. After that, no problem. I was sleeved late in the evening on 6/10 and discharged the next evening. They gave me a prescription for vidodin when I got home that I didn't even use.
  23. I suffer from IBS but find as long as I am eating a healthy diet (before a surgery or after), that pretty much clears it up for me.
