Starting eating sashimi (raw fish, no rice) at 2 months. Personally, I'm avoiding simple carbs like rice -- I suppose requesting brown rice would be better? Even better, sushi made with no rice at all -- cucumber or seaweed wrap instead.

JenniferP1 reacted to Debbieduck4 in Really wanting to go Vegetarian (still eat eggs and cheese)
I've been Vegetarian for 6 years now and eat eggs and cheese too. On very rare occasions I will have a little seafood, but it is maybe once or twice a year. There are so many fabulous vegetarian recipes out there and great replacement foods that you will really enjoy! I love love love spicy black bean burgers, Bocca chicken patties, and Morning Star Breakfast sausage. For Protein, I try to get in 60-90 grams each day. I start my day with a scoop of GENEPRO Protein powder in my coffee which is 30 so that's a big head start... then here's other vegetarian protein sources:
    Protein powders/shakes
    Soy products
    Mozzarella cheese
    Cottage Cheese
    eggs
    Greek Yogurt
    Milk, Soy Milk, Almond Milk
    Nuts
    Beans
    Lentils
    Edamame
    Oats
    Barley
    Artichokes
    Asparagus
    Broccoli
    Peas
    Brussel Sprouts
    Kale
    Corn
..and smaller amounts in bell peppers, carrots, green Beans, cauliflower, mushrooms, and sweet potatoes.
Thank you for considering the lives of our animal friends... not food.
***Also When I first start eating veggie I literally just didn't know what to make, so I thought it might help to know what a typical day looks like... so here's what I ate today:
    coffee w/Genepro
Breakfast: Hardboiled egg, Morningstar sausage patty (pre-cooked and ate in the car on the way to work)
    Lunch: Leftover vegetarian chili
Snack: Cottage cheese and carrot sticks
    Snack: Almonds
Dinner: I'm making Black bean tostada...(Just like regular ones, except I use black beans cooked with taco seasoning as the base)
I also have a sugar free vanilla pudding in the fridge for later

@neva77 I have eaten a few pieces here and there ... but I waited until I was 5+ months out ... tummy took it "ok" ...
but I eat the other things in the salad and then have a few pieces of the lettuce here and there .... no nutritional value .... so why waste the limited space!

JenniferP1 got a reaction from MrsB2007 in soon to be sleever. i have a lot of questions and concerns..can anyone help me?
I was sleeved on 11/5/2015 and was pretty scared too. There was some discomfort for the first few days, but nothing really painful. My biggest piece of advice is to make sure you get your Water in the first few days after leaving hospital so you don't get dehydrated (I learned that the hard way). Down 42 lbs to date -- def no regrets!

JenniferP1 reacted to pr_pitbullgrl in Veterans please help. Food question.
Is there any nutritional value in a bowl of Pasta? In a house green salad? In a potato? In a french fry? In a bowl of rice? Now that everything is so focused on poteen I don't know why I ate these foods before. Do I have a need to ever eat them again? All these things seem like just filler foods. back in the day I would eat salad with meat just to fill up my stomach and when I was fat I would eat french fries and Pasta for pleasure but was I getting any nutritional value?
What are sample diets that you're following? I'm 2 1/2 months out and I work out five days a week or more.

Decolonization and swimbikerun - is there a way to keep in touch with eachother thru this board? I'm planning to adopt a lowfat plantbased diet after WLS and since my surgeon is clueless about it, I'd really value you support & "expertise!"

Question for all the fitbit users. I got my sleeve done on 12/4, and was told to eat about 600-800 calories. Are any of you doing what your dr told you to do, or are you following fitbit with eating back the calories you burn to stay in the green zone? I have my calories set to 700, but struggling to loose weight so I didn't know how everyone else is doing with fitbit and surgery. TIA for any advice!!!

Sounds like your surgeon moved you through the food stages too quickly. I wasn't even allowed solids until 40 days post-op and then it was only specific types of solids. Your body is telling you you aren't ready. Listen to it!

JenniferP1 reacted to Redux in Books About the Sleeve
I'm having my VSG surgery next week. I've been reading as much as possible online and also have ordered some books, several of which I have already read. I am wondering what books others would recommend and why.
I'll start with two of my own favorites thus far:
    1. Bariatric surgeon Duc Vuong's book Ultimate Gastric Sleeve Success. I just read this book and it explained much of what I already knew about the surgery, but some things I didn't, and focused a lot on some practical advice, borne of his experience with his patients, on how to make the sleeve work post-op.
    2. Bariatric surgeon Guillermo Alvarez's book Successful Weight Loss With the Gastric Sleeve. It was the first book I read and it covers the basics. I bought it because I was impressed with the fact that this surgeon specializes in the sleeve and has been doing this operation for fully 10 years (well before the operation was approved in the US, he was doing it down in Mexico where he practices) and has done over 9000 sleeve surgeries.
Both books helped me as a newbie to understand the process. The substance was useful in both, although the style and writing (although very simple and easy to follow in both cases) left much to be desired. They both could have used an editor.

JenniferP1 reacted to Emilie.Lancaster in Protein strategy - what is yours?
I am day 8, and in this short amount of time, I have discovered many things about what I like and what I don't. I like making a 50+ g Protein Shake as my starter each day, and sipping it all morning. This way, I'm well on my way to my goal of 80g. (I feel like 60g is the lowest I dare go). What are your goals and strategy to get there?
