    Vaping pre op

Hey team! So I went to my orientation about a month ago for the kaiser options program. I was so stoked to finally be taking this step in my life. Then it happened. They wont let you even start the classes untilbyou can pass a nicotine class. I have quit SMOKING for over a year now but have been vaping at a very low level. After going home and feeling like I failed myself, I decided to put my big girl panties on and made the choice that I would finish out what juice I had left and switch to 0 mg nicotine. Once I get into the classes, I will drop vaping all together, the classes are 12 weeks long and then its time to schedule surgery. I have been on 0mg juice since 8/6/2015. Anyone know how long it will take to test clean for nicotine? I really want to get my classes started so badly so I can get the right information and get my health on track.
  2. Ooooh aerial yoga, that is a must for me!

Kaiser Permanente. They make you take 12 weeks of classes before scheduling your surgery, in which time you must drop 10% of your body weight. But they say once you get the referral you are good to go as long as you do what you are supposed to do.

What was the final straw to decide this?

The final straw for me was when I went to the store to buy some business casual shirts and had to buy from the maternity section. That is when i started researching. when i made the appointment for the referral about 2 years later, it was because those same shirts wouldn't stay down on their own without my pulling them down and stretching them over my belly about a bajillion times a day. It is time, i should have done this 2 years ago, but i wanted to research nd make sure i REALLY wanted this. and i REALLY do. I can't wait to get my classes over and done with, get the surgery and get my life back on track.
  6. Not much you can do about the loose skin. I've gotten very good at hiding mine and fortunately, my boyfriend is age appropriate for me (57) and doesn't expect physical perfection. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones with good genes and skin that snaps back instead of hanging. That has been my hope since day 1, but i saw myself in the mirror last night and got really self concious about how big my thighs are and how stretched my skin already is. It might snap back some, but i have a feeling i am still going to have quite a bit in some areas.
  7. Fear: I am terrified that I will lose so much weight so quickly that all the Water and excersize wont be able to keep up and i will have loose skin all over the place and having my insurance NOT cover the cost of removal due to it not being medically necessary. Any tips to avoid this happening other than water and excersize?

    Vaping pre op

So after i switched to 0MG, vaping really lost its charm for me. I used the 0mg for a little bit, but as of about 2 weeks ago, i am completely off vapor all together. It was harder to switch to 0mg than it was to ween off vapor, had a few rough days in the beginning, but when my body realized it was not getting nicotine anymore, it stopped craving the vape. i would vape on the way to work, but barely anythig at all, 2-3 puffs on a 35 minute drive. then the same on the way home, and barely at all once i got home, then one morning i was super sleepy and forgot it on the night stand and went all day without it, its been there ever since. i still think about it once in a while, but the craving usually passes in less than a minute.

    Frequently Asked Questions

My roommate is wondering if she will still be able to have enough calories to balance out for her high endurance training in the future to do the Ride for Life (545 mile bike ride in 7 days) if she were to get the sleeve surgery. Any tips or advice i can give her?
  10. Ride horses Wear a bikini or even just a regular bathing suit instead of a swim dress Disneyland marathon Wear dresses and pencil skirts Six flags Get back into jogging Sew brand new garb for renfaire and then donate it to the guild when it gets to be too big Keep up with my beautiful nieces Get a smaller size bridesmaid dress for my sisters wedding Get my boyfriend to workout and eat better These are some of the things i want to do after surgery that i dont do now because of my weight.

    Loose skin chafing

This is exactly what i an afraid of happening. I am at 265 and am hoping with wls that i get down to about 130-135. I keep hearing stay hydrated and exercise to avoid it happening, but what do you do once its already happened or is hydration and excersize alone arent enough? I dont think kaiser covers the skin removal so i would be SOL here, tryinv to stay ahead of the game.
  12. My classes start 10/1 and complete 1/14, then surgery shortly after. Will likely be february or march

    Pre-Op Diet Experiences

Best of luck radar! Glad you found a compromise for eating at a good dinner with your portion control limits
  14. So in my research, i found that many people actually have to remind themselves to eat after surgery. Is this true? And if so, how soon does this take effect? What i read was that in the part of the stomach that is removed is a gland that gives off a hormone that signals to your brain that your stomach is empty. Is this accurate?

Perhaps you can get dinner ready for your daughter before your wife comes home, then you have control over you portion sizes and will be a healthier time to eat. Just make sure to save some leftovers for your honey
  16. Hey sleevers, my first options class starts on 10/1/2015 in woodland hills and goes until 1/14/2016 (16 weeks due to holidays) and I would like to get my diet and weightloss plan on track asap. I heard they do the 10% required loss based on your eeight when you got the referral, or from your heaviest in 3 years. Quite frankly that is the same weight, but I want to make sure that anything I lose prior to class 1 will count towards that 10%. I always seem to get stuck at 30 pounds and then lose confidence and start to regain so I dont want to start to regain right when its time to graduate. I am currently 29 years old, 265 lbs, 5,3", and have 130-135 pounds to shed to get to my ideal weight range, so I need to loose a person (roughly half my weight). A little about me, should you wish to take me on as a mentee. I am (according to my family) the most dedicated person they know when I set my mind to something, this is one of those things. I love planning things and excel is my best friend, I think this will help me track my progress and organize my diet and excersize, but I need your help knowing what to put in the spread sheets (what to eat, what workouts to do etc.) Until I learn how to choose the right foods as I get into the classes, I still need someone to tell me what to eat. My excersize is somewhat limited due to a bad ankle, I had a compound tibia and fibula fracture, and now have a metal rod where the bone marrow was and a few screws holding me together. The bones are fully healed, but my ankle still gives me problems, and all this added weight is NOT helping at all. Because of the weight I need to lose, I am concerned about loose skin, so if you have any budget friendly tips to give on products or things I can do to minimize it as I am pretty sure kaiser wont cover skin removal later on down the line, it would be greatly appreciated. If you think we would be a good fit for mentor/mentee, please reach out, I could use sll the help I can get. Thanks in advance.

    Intimacy after sleeve

Okay, so i am not totally comfortable asking my drs, but i was curious. After the sleeve surgery, what (if any) are the complications for oral sex?
  19. I went to orientation about a month ago and today I called to let them know I am ready to get started on my classes. They signed my up for classes starting 10/1/15 and will complete 1/14/2016. There are 4 weeks that land on holidays during my classes on thursdays but I am looking at it as 4 more weeks to get my 10% off. Anyone else starting around that time?

    Vaping pre op

So I got the cajones to call today to at least find out when I could drop off my packet, the rep who is running the class scheduling and such looked over my file, (I think it tipped her off that I was a previous smoker) and then she scheduled me for my classes. I start october 1st which lines up perfectly for everyone involved. I am just so glad to have my date set for classes. It is something, better than sitting around waiting for them to even set you a sign up date.

Kaiser Options class starting october 1st

I will be at kaiser woodland hills for classes and then at west la for the surgery. And as for difficulty qualifying and getting the referral, it wasnt difficult as I broke my leg a few years back and have a metal rod holding it together so working out can prove to be quite painful when I have to increase it to get past that 30 pound plateau. I am hoping that this will give me the jump start I need to get enough weight off so I can excersize properly without getting hurt. I also went in with a 46.5 bmi and high cholesterol so I met all of the requirements, my doctor was actually quite pleased I had asked about it. I think the fact that I went in with a lot of research under my belt and a solid understanding of the risks and benefits really helped him feel comfortable with giving me the referral. Also, on a side note, he re-measured my height and found I was an inch shorter than previously recorded so my bmi actually went up slightly, which did not hurt my chances of qualifying. You might ask your doctor to do the same if you are right at the limit.

Haha the lady at kaiser said 2 to 2 1/2 months but I think the is more of scare tactic as everything I have come across says way less than that. Felling like might go turn in my paper work at 1 month just to be safe, almost there.

Yes, haha i would hate for THAT to be the reason my future sleeve would fail.

Thank you for responding ladies! Y'all are awesome.
  25. Not sure how i feel about being put on cholesterol medication. I know i need it, but never thought I would need to be on it at 28 years old. Wish I had started taking my health more seriously earlier in life.

I know it is discouraging and I have been in your exact same position but honestly, it is amazing that you are taking control now. It will be a short-lived med for you! I started taking cholesterol meds around your age and still didn't do anything about it. I am 47 before I just had WLS and am so proud of you for making the decision so early in your life! You have 20 healthy years on me!

Thanks for the kind words Daisee! I just want to be healthy as soon as possible. Having my doctor put me on the highest doasage they can give to start made me really nervous. So glad i have the support!

The good news is your recognize the problem with that and you are young enough to do something now before you damage your body. Take it from someone who waited too long! I am 51 and have permanent damage from being obese since I was 26. Good luck on your journey!
