Psych eval - is this normal?

I am going through a center of excellence at Vanderbilt in Nashville and my face to face psyc evaluation was an hour then I had to do the questionnaire that was well over 300 questions. At the end of the face to face she told me she would be referring me for the surgery and the questionnaire was basically to look for certain behavioral patterns. It mainly asked the same things many different ways to be sure that the patient is not a drug addict, alcoholic, or suicidial.

    It was too late...

I can not talk about the Mexico option but I do want to give my sincere condolences about your dad. I can truly understand, my dad was 54 and died at 390 lbs of a massive heart attack. I was in my 20s at the time and at my highest weight topped out at 376. I'm now in my 30s and am in the final steps to get my insurance approval for the sleeve. I hope all the best for you and your heathy future.
  3. I wonder if you've developed a hernia. If it was me I'd get checked out by the dr. Hope all is well!

Anyone else with high BMI to start?

I think every DR is different in their views. I am going into the sleeve at 316lbs and a high bmi and my surgeon said his goal for me is 170. My personal goal is 150 because I'm only 5' 4 1/2" and that would I believe put me right at the high end of "normal" weight. Now don't get me wrong, I will be thrilled to see my weight start with a 1 even if it's 199.9 because I have never seen that since probably sixth grade and I'm 36 now. ????
  5. The only way I could see someone faking the six months is by falsifying the documentation and that's fraud which is a serious crime. I would hope that's not what has happened.

    No nurse practitioner

I would just be careful and do a lot of research online on the doctor and the practice itself just to be safe. Hope it all works out for you!

    Aspartame

I have the same problem but I found popsicles at Aldi that are made with Splenda instead. They taste pretty good and are only 14 calories I believe.

    No nurse practitioner

I would honestly be a bit concerned about the turn over rate at that doctors office if both nurse practitioners left like that.

    Anything get stuck?

Rnwrny- I HOP puts a bit of pancake batter in their eggs to make them more fluffy so that may be why you had a hard time with it cause it's more dense then normal eggs.

    Food and Exercise

It truly is. I started to lose weight on my own a few years ago and I was truly addicted to cokes and fast food. I would hit the drive through at least twice a day every day. When I made the choice to start eating better I would call my someone while I was in the car to have accountability and as sad as it was I was white knuckled gripping the steering wheel in tears as I drove past the numerous fast food places on the way to work. It took a while but little by little I have managed to break the addictions to get myself in the right place to be ready to do this surgery and be successful with it. If you have anyone in your life that you can call and have accountability with when you have the desire to eat junk I would suggest that you do it because it helps a lot.

    Protein shakes

The Atkins ones were on the list for acceptable shakes my surgeons office gave me.

    Blood Donation Today

I am working on getting the sleeve and my surgeon was very specific about not donating blood because after the sleeve it can be hard to keep your iron level up and especially after giving blood.

    Puréed Food Stage

You can get an off brand blender that's just like the bullet one at Walmart for less then twenty dollars. I have one that I've used quite a bit for a few years now and it's still going strong and does a great job.

    Hair loss

I have been worried about this as well and so I asked a friend of mine who's a professional stylist and she said that nioxin shampoo and conditioner will help and if it gets bad the rogain will also work.

    Gummy vitamins!?

My dr and dietician both said most gummies are missing iron and are too low on a few other key nutrients and sure enough mine that I love were missing iron so that is why they recommend two flintstone completes a day.

    Losing it

I think there's something wrong with the dates in the profile because I've tried to fix mine several times because I'm still pre op and it won't adjust and goes back to the 1999 date as well.
  17. I can relate, my sister who is my best friend in the world is not super supportive of me either. We have both been big our whole lives and we have each tried to lose weight on our own. When I made the decision to do this the first thing she did was tell me about someone she knew who had complications. Thankfully my husband and kids are supportive, but I really wanted her to be supportive too.
  18. I asked my dr how many of these surgeries has he performed, what's the complication rate in his office, how many leaks has he had to repair, how many years has he been a surgeon, is he board certified, is his surgery center labeled as a center of excellence, those were my most important ones for the surgeon.

    Worst Restaurant Food You Ordered?

At one point in my life I can remember eating a 16 ounce ribeye steak, a side salad doused in ranch, a few yeast rolls, a loaded baked potatoe, and several cokes to wash it down. Yep, that was at one setting ????. It's no wonder i got to 376 at my highest. I will say I am still prep but I have managed to lose about 60lbs on my own. Just looking forward to surgery to help with continuing to lose.

    Newbie here... Um Hi! :)

Thought I'd join in and introduce myself as well. I'm 36 and have 3 kids. I'm hoping to be sleeved by the end of September start of October. I've been very heavy all my life so it's time to finally take full control of this and lose this weight. I went to the dr this past week and did the initial meetings with insurance specialist, dietician, nurse, and surgeon. I don't think things could have went better, the dr said I'm a perfect candidate for this surgery and I'll have almost no cost out of pocket. I have been doing weight watchers for several months so my primary dr is ready to sign off the six month diet requirement. The surgeon asked what my goal for this was and I told him I just want to see my weight start with a 1, I don't care if it's 199.9 and he laughed and said his goal for me is about 165 and he sees no problem with me being able to get there as long as I stick to what I'm supposed to do. I'm truly excited and all I have to do now is meet with the nut, do the psyc eval and attend one support group. I am scheduled to do all of those on August 12 th then we can submit the insurance approval. I'm very excited and feel so blessed to have this opportunity.

    CORN

It may be because of the level of carbs and sugars in corn. Also corn tends to be hard to digest in a normal stomach. ????

    Beginning stages

I have met my out of pocket max for the year with my ins so my only out of pocket cost is for the psyc evaluation because the ins doesn't cover that at all. Yo u looked very happy and pretty in you wedding picture.
  23. I would suggest that you call your insurance company and make sure that they cover it and find out from them what their requirements are. All insurance companies have varying requirements and copy's etc. it's best to know that up front because your policy may or may not cover it. I had BCBST a few years ago with my old job and it was an exclusion even though my bmi was 59. I have BCBST now with my new job and it's covered I just have to meet my deductible.

    No Wonder I Wasn’t Skinny!

Everything in our house was processed. My mom didn't really cook per say she more or less opened and heated dinner from all the many prepackaged processed food from the store. Thursday's were grocery day and we would go to the store then get fast food to eat in the car then we would get these giant doughnuts with frosting that was pure sugar piled 3 inches high on top of them. There was never a limit on sugary drinks or treats and I really don't remember ever being told to drink water. Now water is all I drink. I have really worked hard as an adult to teach myself to cook and to make things that are more healthy for my kids.

    1st Appointment TOMORROW

My first appointment is on July 9 th and I will meet with the insurance specialist, surgeon, nut, and psychologist for all the initial reviews, I'm going through Vanderbilt in Nashville so they have all the Drs in one office. I have researched these procedures for years and I am praying that all goes smoothly for a quick insurance approval. My pcp has already said she will sign off that I've been working on losing weight on my own for over 6 months if the insurance wants it. I'm 36 and it's time my weight gets in control. I'm hoping for a surgery date by about mid October so I can build up some PTO for the recovery time.
