I keep meaning to find a support group near me, but I keep forgetting. Gonna go look right now!

Wonderful thread and perfectly timed for me. Just yesterday I was wondering about this. I am scared to death of the nausea and vomiting and know pot helps tremendously with that. My bigger concern wasn't the munchies, but if it had any adverse effects on healing like nicotine does.
Seems like it will be a viable option, so I will make sure to add a small quantity to my post-op prep list.
Thank you everyone for their frank discussion on this.

I haven't had to start mine yet. I'm planning to use alot of the Protein stuff I will use after surgery. My surgeon didn't say I couldn't. Are y'all suffering these hunger effect even with eating Protein supplements?
Thanks for any feedback. Just trying to figure out if I'm deluding myself.

I've lucked out here. My best friend had VSG last year, I just got to raid her closet. Then we have another friend that had the surgery about 7 months ago. Try and see if you can find friends, maybe through a local support group, and set up a clothing swap.
Also, I love my Goodwill, and on the first Saturday of the month everything is 50% off.
Our other friend is a lawyer and has really nice, high dollar, suits. She had those tailored. Sometimes that's really expensive, so unless it's something you really love or very expensive, it may not be worth the money.

I like mine too. Simple way to see where I am during the day. And I agree, challenging friends keeps me motivated.
Has anyone else noticed though, that it's not very accurate if you're walking on a treadmill? I'm guessing maybe since my arms don't move like they would if I was just walking (I'm clumsy so I hold on). That would be my only complaint.

I haven't really gotten too nervous.....yet. Mostly I just think how much better I'm going to feel, and how I will be able to walk without hurting, or bend over without grunting, etc etc. I'm enjoying my food now and am usually thinking of ways to beef up the Protein in it for post-surgery (months post-surgery).
Sometimes I'll get a little sad because I'll think, "won't be able to have this after surgery". Then I remember, well I can. Just a lot less, and after I have my Protein first. Trying to turn the thinking around.
PM'd you Jenny.
Have a great week everyone!

Thanks so much for this thread and all the wonderful input.
This is my biggest concern for after surgery. My need to drink is totally psychological though - my Mom was not a very good cook. So growing up, i would basically eat the food like it was a pill. I'd take a bite and swallow it with drink (soda, Water, milk, whatever). So after 40-something years, it's just how I eat. LOL
I am hoping (and thanks to y'all's input, quite sure) I will be able to overcome this compulsion post-op. I'm thinking all the time with just liquids before, then after, then mush, etc that the "habit" will be broken.

Healthier me!! And ofcourse pretty clothes and I want to walk into tj maxx and find pretty outfits and walk up to a clearance rack and find a size medium 5 dollar shirt lol.....plus size clothing is too expensive and designers are most small not plus size they have no idea of our style or needs!!!!
YES YES YES....SALES!!!!!!!

Not buying clothes that always have flowers on them or are gathered across the bust line.
Having my heart shaped face back.
Being able to wipe without contorting my body or breaking the toilet seat.<--------- Ummmmm Yeah....THAT!
Flying
Sitting in a chair without wondering if I will end up on the floor.
Thinking I will fit through somewhere only to knock everything over or getting stuck.
Getting on a crowded elevator without someone getting off.
To get on the floor with my grandchildren and not having to crawl to a piece of furniture and take 5 minutes to get up.
Hiking; walking the dogs without my back being on fire in 5 minutes and my legs going numb; going back to Universal and enjoying myself; learning to scuba dive; fitting back into the way cool burgundy, paisley design, smoking jacket I've held on to for over twenty years!

Woo Hoo!!!! Finally some buddies. My surgery is November 12th. I chose that date because it worked best for taking the two weeks off of work. I already know insurance won't pay for mine so I have chosen a surgeon a friend used in Mexico.
And yes! I am enjoying ALL my favorite foods now. I start my two week liquids right before Halloween.
Here's to better health.....later.

I haven't had my surgery yet, but in the schedule lit it says that the morning of surgery I will have an EKG, chest x-ray, and bloodwork. I would probably be skeptical of a doctor that didn't do preliminary testing. But that's just me.

Ditto. I wouldn't have it at 8pm both for the NPO and the tired surgeon reasons. Best of luck.

Thanks everyone for all the great answers and info. Originally my adult son was going to be home when I have my surgery, but he's gotten the opportunity to go away to college. So I will be coming home alone to three 90# dogs! :-0 I have several months to prepare so along with putting their food on the counter, I think I will train them to gently pull on a rope or something that I have the other end of to help me sit up. LOL

Hi everyone. I am still many months away from surgery...and no caffeine. But this has been a leading concern when I go on my pre-op liquid requirement. I had already thought I might start weening myself earlier, but now I know I will based on y'all's advise. Thank you!
And for those looking at teas, there are also herbal teas like the Tazo brands that are just herbs (not teas) so they have no caffeine I believe.
