    interesting travel question

We cruised at 10 weeks out. Things went really well. A few tips to share. Bring Protein supplements. I brought a box of premier shakes and some bars. Ended up not eating the bars, but always had 2 shakes a day. We ended up eating at the buffet for all meals. The biggest tip... Always take a small plate. It's too easy to take too much with a big plate. I took too much food once with a big plate. Learned that the hard way. I am an early riser so would have room service deliver coffee at about 7. DW and I would sit on the balcony and enjoy the quiet morning. I would have some coffee and a Protein shake. Then we would either hit the gym or walk up on the jogging track for 45 minutes then the buffet for Breakfast. Breakfasts were easy. Usually a scrambled egg and maybe a piece of bacon. Lunches usually consisted of a bun less hamburger or whatever meat they had at the carving station. This is where a small plate is critical. For dinner, we stayed with the buffet. With only being able to eat a few ounces, the thought of a 2 hour multi course dinner just did not appeal to us. So dinner, like lunch was a small portion of whatever protein they had. Usually a choice of some type of beef or chicken. Only once did a hostess question my small plate, but she was very friend,y and I just told her that I am watching what I eat. I would usually let them bring me a Water or iced tea that I would just bring back to the cabin. I then usually had an other protein shake before bed. That was a 4 night cruise. Leaving in 2 weeks for a full 7 nighter. Even thought I'm 4.5 months out (and 45# down), don't plan to change anything. With Disney, there are plenty of options for eating clean. Just always choose a small plate and your chances of overeating will be less. You will be doing a ton of walking so always carry a water bottle with you. Same on the cruise. Take one from home. Not sure which line you are going on, but we sail Royal Caribbean and there are always plenty of places to refill. We are very frequent cruisers, and the first post sleeve one was very interesting, but in a good way. Instead of the focus on what can I eat next, it was what activities can we do, or shows to see or trivia, bingo, etc. Just have a great time and focus on what you can do, not what you can't. 6. 45 pounds down as of last week. 3 month blood work was all great with the exception that my Protein was low. Cholesterol was down 100 points from same time last year. Loving this new life. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. Just donated 5 bags of of XXL to goodwill. Wife keeps buying me XL and I keep telling her that they made a mistake and all these clothes are mislabeled. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. Feeling fantastic! Not sure about sale numbers yet. On the first of December I was down 37 total and 30 since surgery. My 3 month appointment is on the 7th so will weigh in then. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

First post sleeve cruise in 3 days

It was a great experience. It was a little challenging just getting into a routine with meals. Breakfast and lunch were easy. I brought Protein drinks for when I first woke up. Then eggs and a little bacon or cottage cheese for breakfast. Lunch was some carved meat. Dinners were all at the buffet. Not drinking alcohol was not a problem at all. But I did find that getting all my Water in was a challenge Best advice I have, is when you go to the buffets, take a small plate. It is much easier to not take too much since I did not bring my scale. Next one is in 8 weeks! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. We are big cruisers. It's how we spend our vacation time usually twice a year. If you have ever been on a cruise before, you know that food can be a big part of the experience. Our joke was that the second you step foot on the ship, they implant a tapeworm that makes you constantly want to eat. Things will be a lot different on this cruise. It's not longer going to be about when the buffet opens or how many different Desserts to try. But, it will also be different in that we can do things we had not been able to do because of weight. Like trying to climb the rock wall (Not expecting much, but can try it for the first time). Excursions that involve more than sitting on a tour bus or on a beach. So, the plan is to bring Protein bars and shakes on the ship. Breakfast of some eggs and meat. Lunches are easy in the buffet. For dinners, we are going to stick to the buffet and not the formal dining room. There is plenty to choose from as there are usually several protein options. Not going to bring my food scale, so I will just eat very slowly and recognize my full indicators. I'll let you all know how it went, but I expect nothing but smooth sailing. First post sleeve cruise in 3 days

Surgery was 9/29 so I'm about 10 weeks out. Only weighing once a month and am down 30 since surgery and 37 overall. I didn't mention that we will hit the gym or the running track every morning. Yes, we would be allowed to take the shakes onboard. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. Not sure of the number since I am staying off the scale. But, wanted to share surgery day and today. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. Feeling great. I was very fortunate that I sailed through surgery very quickly. Zero pain. Now, I honestly feel totally normal except I eat less. I still do 2 Protein shakes a day to make sure I am getting all that in. A typical day is shake for Breakfast. Greek yogurt for snack. lunch is chicken salad or leftovers from the night before. I like the Oscar Meyer P3 Snacks and some protein for dinner. Still at 3 oz a meal and between 700 and 800 calories. I'm back at the gym. Still tire easily, but that gets better each day. 15. Surgery date 9/29. Staying off the scale until December 1, but started shopping in my closet for smaller clothes. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. Did anyone find that once they lessened their dependency on Protein shakes and stared eating more real food, their weight loss progressed faster? Been stalled for 3 weeks now after 9/29 surgery. Right now, a typical day is... B- pure Protein shake S- dannon light and fit vanilla Greek yogurt (1 carton) L- canned chicken (3 oz) with light mayo S - pure protein shake D - lean protein like fish or chicken (3 oz) S - pure protein shake Usually ends up at about 700 calories and 120g protein. So those numbers are OK per the NUT. But, wondering if the shakes may be causing the stall. Going to start tomorrow having a scrambled egg for Breakfast and some nuts for morning snack, keeping 1 shake a day. May have to supplement with some unflavored Protein powder to get to the number. Just wondering if anyone else stalled due to the shakes. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. 3 weeks today post VSG. Sailed through recovery but in the dreaded stall for 2 weeks now. On,y 3 pounds off in the last two weeks. Can you look at my food for today and provide any thoughts. It looks good to me. FYI, the yogurt is homemade with a scoop of chocolate Protein powder. The 2 HB eggs are in egg salad. Thanks. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. Edited to add. Male (posting this for hubby), 5'11. SW 300. Surgery weight 293. Current weight 278 Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. It's happened. Totally expected it. The question is, is it a 3 week stall or a 2 week stall. Surgery last Tuesday, 9/29. But does the 1 week liquid pre-op count as week 1 making this week 3 or does the count actually begin after surgery. The stall corresponded with the move from Clear liquids to full liquids. Still doing great though. Yesterday was 650 calories, 60 grams of Protein and 80 oz Water. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Out of breath

Hubby is 5 days post VSG and doing great. Walking and getting in his clear fluids. His only complaint is that even the simplest things get him out of breath. Assuming is is almost 2 weeks of nothing but liquids and very few calories. But, wanted to get the opinions of the experts out there. Thanks. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Out of breath

He feels great. Like hard to believe great. Earlier today we walked a mile and just got back from another longish walk. He is definitely worn down but has zero discomfort. He started adding Protein with the the Nektar Syntax today and is tolerating that fine. He is down 11 pounds since pre-surgery on Tuesday and 19 from h is starting weight. Yesterday he got 60 oz of Water in and he is already at 50 today so should get to 70. We have been joking that all the surgeon did was make 5 incisions and then did nothing else. He generally has a very high tolerance for pain, and has bounced back quickly from a back surgery and appendix that he had in the past. I touch something wood all the time as I am so grateful that things have gone well. He has been monitoring his heart rate and it has dropped to a normal rate after sitting for a few minutes. Thanks for asking. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

How did the scheduler mess that up so badly. Surely the vacation was pre-planned. Glad you have a great attitude. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Does my iPad hate WLS ?

Use taptalk. Much better. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  24. My husband should be having his Band to VSG revision in late September or early October. He wants to run the Disney Dopey Challenge in January 2017, so 15 months post sleeve. The Dopey is. 5k Thursday, 10k Friday, half marathon Saturday and full marathon on Sunday. He is not at all worried about the distances, but his concern is being able to consume enough calories/carbs and hydration to make it through all of those miles. Any WLS marathoners out there who could provide some insight and guidance. This past January he did the Goofy challenge which was the half and full. He walked it but finished within the time limits. 80-100 pounds lighter, the stress on his body will be so much less, and he will be able to run at least some of it. Thanks! 25. Maybe I should keep my mouth shut. I am not a patient, but the very supportive wife. My husband is starting the process of a band to sleeve revision and we are hoping for a late September surgery date. I have been to the appointment with him, and have read not just the binder from the surgeon, but everything I can find online. Both DH and I know that this is a tool to help him lose weight and get healthy. He also knows that in order to be successful, he needs to follow, to the letter, the program that the surgeon and nutritionist lay out. I read all the time here, and on other forums, of people who are not being successful. Most of the time, it comes out that they are eating solids too soon or eating too many carbs. I am the first to admit that I don't know what it's like to be a food addict. But, having been with one for almost 25 years, I know the struggles all too well. Ultimately, it is up to him to succeed with this gift he is being given. And while I cannot watch him 24/7, he knows that following the plan is the only way to succeed. liquids for 2 weeks. Mashies for 2 then the slow introduction of solids. Letting the new stomach heal and more importantly, learning how to eat to live, not live to eat. Sorry if I offended anyone, and like I said, I don't know what it's like to live in your shoes. But, I will walk over flaming broken glass to help my husband succeed.
