A Sample Menu for the day

Thank you all so much. I have just been afraid to try different things thinking they were not allowed, but from these examples I can add alot of variety.
  3. Hey I have a question for all. At what point did you stop wearing you current clothing after surgery. I am 8 weeks post-op and down 38 lbs but I can still wear my same clothes. I just tighten up the belt or whatever. Plus I now can just dry them instead of hanging them up to dry yeah! But my family members keep saying stuff like your pants are too baggy stuff like that. But I just think they are comfortable so why bother. What do you think is it a psychosomatic thing or is this what everyone does?

    Anyone from Virginia?

Sounds great! I added you!Lynn, how did surgery go? How are you feeling? Actually I didn't get to have my surgery on the 27 th I went in even got all the way through getting my IV and all my pre surgery meds and into pre-op for 3 hours then the anesthesiologist found some irregularities in a thyroid test that had been taken two months before so they said it wasn't safe to do my surgery not knowing what my thyroid levels were that it was possible I could even crash during surgery so they said they would do a thyroid test and then get the numbers put me on meds for a month retest and then reschedule the surgery I was pretty bummed but it was better then the alternative of dying in surgery however the next day the surgeon called back and by some miracle my thyroid test came back normal so I don't have to wait a month they rescheduled my surgery immediately for this coming Thursday November 5th and in all actuality a Thursday surgery works out better for me as my husband can take less days off work and it is only a difference of a little leas then a week and it proves to me they have my best interest at stake so it all works out bit I will keep you updated! Better safe than sorry! I wish you a quick recovery. Everything will go wonderful and you will be on the way to your healthier life! Keep me posted of your progress. Remind me of your surgeon again and is it at a local Sentara Hospital?

    Eggs

@@lizag234 you are only a few days post op. Based on my experience I had one episode of head hunger around that 2nd week and it was when Hubby made tacos which is my favorite. It was extremely frustrating and I had to go to another area in the house to avoid the smell even. I drank my protein and water and made it through. The next time he made them. I just stuck to my guns saying there is no wway your hungry you just want it. Drank my water and kept my self busy. I started using the meal timer on wrek 3 when I progressed to soft/pureed food. When it went off I ate, in between I focused on my water and sometimes crystal light peach tea. I wish you luck but your doing great I think everyone finds their tolerable place within weeks 3-6. Please feel free to message me any time if you need to talk. It is nice to have someone to share and compare notes with.

The abscess? No that comes from one of your incisions not healing properly. I had a really nasty on years ago after my hysterectomy. I had to have a nurse come out for wound care. As for eating eggs. I'll admit I feel a little guilty eating them even though I buy cage free. However I need them to meet my Protein goals. I probably eat eggs every day. Thankfully they don't upset my stomach no matter how I prepare them. I love hardboiled eggs that why I was using them as a snack. But the Dr told me yesterday that the white part of the egg is extremely difficult to digest. He suggested that I eat it warm off the stove or smashed up in eggsalad or what ever. However it will be a cold day in you know where before I'm brave enough to try them again… just sayin… .

I use the meal reminder app and set it for the number of meals/snacks I need per day. That way you know when to eat and believe me that alarm gets pretty annoying because you think man I just ate. This way your head hunger can't convince you your hungry because your app is saying ita not time to eat.

    Eggs

Congratulations on your surgery. You need to be supper delight in regards of following the liquid and soft food guidlines and give your stomach time to heal. This happened to ke andvi was on solids so you never know what food is going to cause you issues. The hunger is dehydration try drinking water when you start to feel hungry. It is my understanding that it is head hunger this early in. It is a very uncomfortable situation I am in now but I promise you up until Monday I had zero issues. Nor vomiting, nausea, pain after about 3 days of surgery. Nothing, I was like did I even have surgery. So don't feel like its all going to be miserable you will soon feel good I promise.

    Eggs

I kind chuckled when I saw this I have been in so much pain since eating a hard boild egg last Monday. It caused inflammation and an abrasion right where the stomach curves after the esophagus enter the stomach. I can to eat or drink anything without the most pain ive ever had in my life. I spend all day feeling like I am having a heart attack. I'm not complaining necause I did it to my self but I thought I could share with you all. The only good news is that I have lost over 10 lbs in a week but at a costvi didn't really want. I am sucking it up trying to drink the protein and water but I am feeling like I may have to go back to the Doc. I have been to the Er they know its not a bloodclot and Dr. T done the upper GI with barrium and we can see where even the liquid is pooling and he said it could take abput two weeks to heal and to go back to soft food but it just hurts so bad I can't do it. Staying with the shakes for at least the protein
  17. Can someone explaine how to count the calories or protein in a couple bites of this or a couple bites of that? I understand if I have a foil pack of tuna and I manage to eat it in its entirety by the end of the day but what about the times when you don't finish a serving of whatever. I am afraid that I am either over estimating or under estimating.

    How to count calories

Exactly, I just started using a measuring spoon to prepare my serving and at this point in, since I can only consume such a small amount breaking out a scale and subtracting the weight for the saucer, bowl, plate etc. Is overkill. As my portion size increases I am sure it will require changes in how I measure or weigh it. I was just trying to figure out the best way to keep track of such a small portion of food and it seems that a measuring teaspoon is doing the trick.
  19. My insurance company ABCBS CovaCare required a monthly call from a RN for 12 months before I could have surgery. We talked about everything from A-Z and I have to say it really was the shortest year in my life. At first I was very frustrated but when I had the surgery on September 10 I was prepared and well informed for what was to come. If you put it all in perspective, why would an insurance company want to spend that kind of money on someone not willing to commit to a small window of requirements, as WLS of any kind is a life changing event and a lifetime commitment. I was told by my Psychiatrist at the time of the evaluation that the statistics show that a large number of prospective patients are weeded out because of their lack of commitment to just follow through with basic insurance requirements. Don't make the mistake of thinking you will be different. These requirements are for a reason and if your committed to a real-life change you have to start at the bottom of the ladder and climb each rung as required to get to the top just like each and everyone of us on this site has done. There are no shortcuts just determination and sticktoitiveness.

    How to count calories

There was a website mentioned in my paperwork and I checked it out yesterday. So far so good you can enter the amount of food by teaspoonful etc. Giving that I try now to see how it goes. I don't like sites that ask for alot of information because I don't have that kind of time just to track food. Its Sparkpeople.com
