    Sugar

I have the same thing if I eat too much sugar. No dumping In the diarrhea sense but I get extremely tired and feel miserable.
  2. Congrats grandmaofone! I was a June 16ther --- going well - I was 280 @ surgery time, and 232 now. Looking forward to onederland someday! Otherwise, I've really had no complications, and can eat most anything, though fats and sugars in excess make me feel crummy - but that's a good thing

    IUDs

For those of you that have done the pill and IUD (hormonal) can you tell me if you noticed a decrease in side effects from the IUD. I am currently on Gildess (the stronger 1.5/30) and i hate it. After I started it, my skin got bad and my libido TANKED. So i want off of it. My gyn said that people often see much less of those side effects with the hormonal IUD, so just wondering if that's the case for folks on here who have used it. I am surprised to hear some were told not to take oral contraceptives after surgery. That's never been mentioned to me.

    IUDs

I recently went to the OB/GYN to ask about an IUD and they recommended Skyla, which is smaller than Mirena and lasts for 3 years. They said it's a little easier to implant in women that have not had babies.

    Vitamins

Coromega is pretty good. It's a little pouch of orange flavored creamy fish oil. I know that sounds gross but tastes like orange cream with minimal after taste. I've taken fish oil every which way and prefer this product to all. You can get it from their site or Amazon.

    Cravings - Pre versus Post

Nothing changed about my cravings - I still crave the same stuff I did before surgery and have to work hard to stay away from it all. The good thing is when I do give in, I can't ever eat much of it.
  7. I find some of the responses on this forum hilarious. All these fat or formerly fat people saying "you need to eat better! No carbs! Eat only Protein. Drink 900 oz of Water bc you're confusing thirst with hunger" Why did you all get this surgery in the first place? If you were so good at watching everything you put in your mouth and controlling your portions and carbs you wouldn't have needed this surgery. The whole point of getting bypass is that diet and exercise alone don't work for 98% of people. I eat all the same stuff I did before surgery but way less. I have had pizza a bunch. I've had burgers, fries, tacos, nachos, cake, etc. I am losing weight because I can eat very little of this stuff and am still tracking my calories. Is this a good thing? Hell no. Most of the time I still have to try so hard to be mindful of what I eat, to focus on protein and then veggies and limiting my carbs. Nothing about my taste changed after surgery. It wasn't some magic thing that made me only want to eat chicken breast and kale. It appears that it worked that way for a lot of people on this forum but not me. The only halfway decent advice here is to get a therapist. I plan to do this because I know that if I don't learn to deal with my cravings and food addiction, even if I lose all the weight with this surgery, I'll someday put it back on. So I'd recommend doing that and in the meantime, try to ignore the plethora of lame advice on this forum. Don't get me wrong - this place is great for some things but you have to wade through a lot of self righteous and misguided advice to find it.

    Hair Loss

I have been taking Bariatric Advantage Biotin since shortly after surgery and started losing my hair a couple weeks ago around the 3 month mark. Biotin will not stop hair loss. It will only help with new growth. My hair has been coming out in piles, non stop. I've lost about 50% of my volume. No bald spots, just flat hair!! The cause is rapid weight loss and effects of major surgery and anesthesia. Basically your body is so busy repairing important stuff, it directs all energy away from growing hair for a while. So you shed but it doesn't get replaced like it usually does. Keep your Protein intake up and eventfully the shedding will stop and your volume will come back. I had heavy heavy shedding for several weeks but now it seems to be slowing down a bit. However I'm expecting it to last for a chunk of the heaving losing period (and like you, my weight loss has felt slow as I hit stalls constantly)

    5 months post-op and 75 lbs. lost!

    Congratulations. Wonderful progress!!!
  10. I think it's funny that everyone assumes easy way is a negative. We are so programmed to think that if we don't suffer to lose weight then the weight loss isn't valid. If you ignore weight loss and look at this another way, you quickly see how stupid it is to think easy = bad. Imagine a desired outcome called outcome A. There are two ways to achieve outcome A: one way is slow, painful, and inefficient. The other is faster and easier and more efficient. Now what dummy would proudly choose to achieve outcome A via the first method? After surgery you still have to watch what you eat, think about all your choices, address emotional issues and exercise. But the restriction makes it easier and lessens that feeling of sacrifice that comes with dieting when your hunger is out of control. Yes it makes it easier. And easier is smart. I'm glad I made the smart choice.

    Calories post op!

I'm two months and if I'm not careful I can easily get in 1200 a day. I try to stick to under 1000 usually somewhere in the 900s
  12. I've done tortilla pizzas and those are great for a craving. I've also had regular pizza - today actually I had a slice of thin crust pizza from papa johns. I'm 2 mos out. Was full after a slice but man, don't love how many calories they are with so little protein. So I'll be sure to keep it to special occasions. Esp bc I love pizza and that's probably what got me where I am!

    Spicy Food + No Water?

Water actually increases the burn with spicy food. The real solution is milk or dairy. Depending on what you're eating that's spicy, maybe you could counter the spice with sour cream or yogurt?

    How long out of work?

I was back after a week and a half. Would have liked two full. I do have a more flex workplace so some days I left early if I was tired/sore
  15. I began sleeping on my stomach again as soon as it stopped hurting - maybe a week and a half or two out from surgery.

    Sandwich Wraps

@shellylester I am 7 weeks out, but have been able to eat those for a while. I progressed to normal food at 4 weeks.

    Sandwich Wraps

i use mission carb control fajita size tortillas for wraps. i put a slice of deli ham, a slice of swiss and some mustard in and roll it up. they're a smaller size tortilla so great for wraps, and also to make tortilla pizzas with
  18. I feel the same way. Yesterday at lunch I was shocked at how much I ate because the day before I had a couple bites of roast beef and some mashed sweet potato and felt stuffed to the gills. Not sure why it works that day or if the volume is the same just looks deceiving but some days I do feel like I am able to eat a larger volume of food at a meal. I still seem to stay within 800-1000 cals a day but weight loss has been slowwwww.

    FRUSTRATED

My 3-4 week stall ended but the pounds have come off slowly since then. 1-2 per week. I know that's healthy but my surgeon said weight would come off drastically after a stall. I know slow weightloss is beneficial in some ways, but I can't say it's comforting!

    FRUSTRATED

I stalled 1 week out for almost a month, then lost a couple pounds and then have stopped again. It's frustrating but it's not time yet to ask why did I do this. If you're not losing say in 4 or 5 months, THEN I'd say that's a valid question. Hang in there - we all know it's normal, even if it's Totally frustrating.

10 DAYS OUT, THINGS GOING TOO GOOD?

Yep - and that'll be a bigger deal when you're on solid, regular food. I remember thinking the surgery didn't work for me during pureed and soft food stage. Now I've been on normal food a couple weeks. I get stuff on a little bit of scrambled egg and half a meatless sausage patty and have a few incidents of stuck food/vomiting. I am VERY aware of my surgery now And yes - eating fast is no biggie when it's all soft stuff, but can lead to a whole heck of a lot of discomfort later, so train yourself now!

10 DAYS OUT, THINGS GOING TOO GOOD?

Be glad it's going so well! Mine did as well and I had the same worries, but once I started on normal fully solid food, I felt the restrictions of my pouch real fast.
  23. I'm looking for tips on how you all get in Protein - particularly how you get to a goal of 70-80g a day. I am supposed to eat 3 meals a day, no snacking. I'm in soft foods now but eventually those three meals should be solid, dense food. I also am supposed to aim for 1 Protein shake a day. I can't see how, with the small amount I can eat at meals, that I can get 80 grams in... Unless I *just* eat protein rich foods and nothing else, which doesn't sound that appealing. Before surgery, I barely ate meat. Now, I feel like that has to be 95% of my diet!

    Eating hurts

I believe that's mucous that is made in your stomach or esophagus to deal with stuck food that's not moving. Have you been making sure to eat slowly and chew thoroughly. I've had a couple issues with food getting stuck lately and i end up producing a lot of saliva before eventually throwing up (or sometimes I just gag until it passes somehow).

    Problems

Are you tracking what you eat and eating small amounts? It's of course most important to eat healthfully and follow your program, but I have found even if I do have a "bad" meal, I can't eat very much at all, so when I track my food, I find my calorie intake is still very low. Not something you should do every day, but if you're not eating slider stuff that doesn't get you full, you should still lose weight early on. The real risk is later on down the line, if you haven't formed healthy habits in the first year, it's only going to get harder the further out from surgery you get. If you haven't been focusing on Protein, that may be a way to get back on track. Make sure you get protein in before anything else in the meal, and limit carbs where possible. This should decrease hunger/snacking feelings.
