    Any December Sleever's?

Tentatively scheduled for December 1st! Last visit with my surgeon and pre op testing is this Wednesday and I start my diet on Saturday. I can't believe it's so close!
  2. I've been doing the same thing. I've spent days reading the complication support forum and now I'm terrified. But at the same time I had a friend who had the surgery and she did amazingly well and that was the whole reason I went to a seminar. I know the good FAR outweighs the bad. I'm sure I'll go through with the surgery but that doesn't mean I'm not scared.

    Pre op diet...

My coworker was sleeved in May and never had a preop diet and everything went just fine. Depends on the Doctor I guess!

    Blender or nutribullet?

I have a nutri ninja, I use it all the time. I chose this over a blender because I like that I just throw a cover on the blender container and take it with me. I've always done a lot of shakes and smoothies so I get plenty of use out of it.

    Going Back to Work

My surgery is Tuesday and I plan on returning on Monday. I have a desk job that's very flexible so if I need a nap or to leave early it's not a problem. My coworker had her surgery on a Wednesday and came back on Tuesday. My body may have other plans but hopefully I can return ASAP
  6. I was actually shocked. I expected my PCP to give me trouble but when I went in she was very happy for me and wrote my letter right there on the spot. My surgeons staff has also been incredible. I can email any one of them with a question and they get back to me within 10 minutes. ALL of my appointments were scheduled out in advance so I knew ahead of time. I'm very glad I chose this program. Even the hospital staff and nurses were fantastic when I went in for my endoscopy. It really eases my nerves.
  7. Yup, I'm scheduled for December 1st but my insurance hasn't approved it yet. I asked my surgical coordinator about it and she said the 2 weeks is plenty of time and they rarely have any issues with my insurance. I'm prepared for them to have to move it back but if they don't then I'm ready!
  8. I have the same fears. I start my liquid diet on the 21st so I've decided to ease myself in to it and I'm starting now replacing my breakfast with a shake, eating cottage cheese or yogurt for a snack, I'm hoping this helps make it easier for me.

    December sleepers

I'm December 1st too! Boston MA
  10. I just turned 28 and I'll be having surgery December 1st I wanted to do this now while I'm young and mostly healthy instead of putting it off for years and developing health problems. This is the best decision I can make for myself.
  11. Not having constant hip and back pain! I took the kids trick or treating last night and I'm really sore and stiff today. I also booked a trip to the Bahamas for the end of May, my surgery is December 1st. I can't wait to not feel squished on the plane and actually wear SHORTS for once!

    Hello :)

Check with your insurance company to find out what your coverage for bariatric surgery is and what their requirements for approval are. I had to have 6 visits with my doctor/nutritionist and my doctor also required me to have an endoscopy, my surgeons office took care of absolutely everything. They set up all of my appointments in advance and basically just told me where I needed to be and when.
  13. So far I've told my mom, 2 friends, and a cousin. I have a lot of fit friends and family members who wouldn't be supportive so I've chosen to keep my mouth shut until after my surgery. I'm not ashamed at all, I just don't want to listen to weight loss advice for the next month and a half and about how I could easily do this on my own.

    Protein shakes

I use Target brand chocolate and vanilla protein. For the chocolate I just do a scoop of the protein with a little PB2 and skim milk. The vanilla protein with a half of a frozen banana, a little sugar free vanilla pudding, and skim milk has been my favorite so far.

    December Sleeve?

My surgery date is December 1st, my pre-op diet starts before Thanksgiving and I'll only be eating mushy foods around Christmas. We're having Thanksgiving early so I can enjoy it and for Christmas I'm planning on making a nice soup to bring with me. It's going to be torture but I figure if I can make it through the holidays I can make it through anything! It'll be worth it!

    Judged at the hospital

I'm sorry you had a bad experience! I haven't had my surgery yet, but I had to deal with that from the psychologist who was evaluating me. I sat down and she looked at me and said "Well you don't even look that bad!", uh thanks but I feel like total crap.

    Boston Sleevers?

This is great to hear, I've been seeing Dr. Glasgow myself and I'm on track to have surgery the end of November or early December. JUST had my first nutritionist appointment last week. I'm excited.
  18. I'm finishing up with my 6 month monitored weight loss in early November so it's looking like my surgery will most likely be in early December. It seems so far away!
  19. I'm just starting the process but I'm only telling a select few. So far I've told 2 friends (one who had WLS recently) and my cousin. I just needed to share it with SOMEONE. Eventually I'll tell my mom but I would rather not worry her considering I'm only on month 1 of my 6 month diet for my insurance. People are still very judgmental about WLS so I really don't plan on telling anyone else. That's why sites like this are great. Even if I don't have much support at home I can at least get it here.
  20. I'm 27 and just deciding I should go this route. I want to do it while I'm still young. I want to get married, have children, have a healthy life, and I think this is my best option. I've been overweight my entire life and don't want to spend another year obese and miserable. If you have the option available to you, I'd certainly look in to it. It's worth it to go through the process and in the end decide whether or not you want to do it than to spend all of this time waiting and THEN have to start the process. I know with my insurance I have to go through 6 months nutritionist visits before I can submit for approval. It took me seeing my coworker having her surgery two weeks ago to really give me the shove to call a surgeon. If I lose weight on my own and don't feel like surgery is right for me any more, I don't have to go through with it. But if I do, then at least I started now. My coworker was unsure of when she would be able to have her surgery but with her insurance her approval was good for an entire year. You may be able to get approved and then find a time that's right for you.
