No worries, she'll be eating her words at the next family function.

The only time I've ever successfully lost weight was when I followed strict Atkins. I ate over 2500 calories a day on that diet and lost almost 150 lbs in a year. But I lacked the will power to STAY on it. I'm seeing surgery as being the tool I need to not start eating crap again. I'm certainly not going to sabotage myself after going to such extremes. But yes, I lack the will power myself to never eat crap again unless I have another tool in place.
You may find that even with a sleeve you have to stay strict on something like Atkins. Personally, I found that to be true. Even with the sleeve, I could not lose without carb restriction. Also, I think you'll find that once you're sleeved you'll see that you were still "overeating". I had the same fears - I had been low-carbing off and on for years and still managed to get past 400 pounds. I need(ed) the restriction to get my portions down to a size that would allow me to lose weight. Doing low carb now is easier now that I don't have a bottomless pit.

One thing is certain, I don't think you'll regret your choice no matter which one you choose. When you're starting over 300 pounds, I feel like it's almost impossible to get to a normal weight without medical intervention. I can't think of anyone that I know personally that was ever that heavy and lost to a normal weight.

I'm a lazy chef. Here's some of the things I eat when I REALLY want something bad.
Ice cream = sugar free fudgecicle. Works EVERY time
Cheesecake = couple tbsp low fat cream cheese, add some sweetener, little lemon juice, maybe a tbsp of sugar free strawberry jelly. You could add PB2 or some nuts for crunch.
pizza = take all the toppings I would put on a pizza and bake them in a ceramic bowl. If I just need a crust, I'll use a low carb mission tortilla
Pasta = zucchini can replace Pasta in pretty much any dish
Sushi = sliced cucumber, shrimp or salmon, avocado, ginger, soy sauce and a drizzle of sesame oil (in a bowl like a salad or individual pieces stacked on slices of cucumber)
When I need inspiration, I hit the low carb recipes. I find that they work well for me. I swap or eliminate items as necessary.

I love tacos, so sometimes I'll buy one or 2 and just eat the insides. I think sometimes we overthink our food choices. I just try to stick with JERF (just eat real food).

There is no "need" to revise a sleeve (except for severe gerd or acid reflux). The need is in revising your eating habits. Most people who have gotten sleeve revisions could not control their eating. In either case, if you cannot/do not change your eating habits, it doesn't matter which procedure you get.

@@daniotra I'm not allowed NSAIDs with my sleeve. I suppose every surgeon has a different opinion about using them.

@@bsweetness Good luck. No alcohol!!! Your stomach will still be healing. I would wait at least 2-3 months.

@@KristenLe Same here. Although I do experience some mild dumping symptoms if I eat too much fat or carbs.

@@hernewselfie I think you are as successful as you want to be with the sleeve or the bypass. Both are tools and you have to decide which tool you want to use to get the job done. I have seen people fail and be successful equally with either tool. After discussing my diet with my surgeon, he thought that the sleeve would be fine for me and I have no regrets. In the short term, the bypass usually produces quicker results, but long term the results are pretty similar. Ultimately, you control how successful you are by your eating and exercise habits.
Here are my stats:
I'm 5'5 and was sleeved on June 23, 2015. I'm 34 and have also had a baby (yes I believe this makes a difference).
HW:435
SW:402
CW:283
Here's a comparison calculator

Also, you CAN experience dumping with the sleeve.

My social life is mostly the same. My friends and I have been friends for more than 15 years. Some even longer. 3 of my closest friends have gotten or are getting WLS after seeing how great I was doing with it. The only real difference now is when we go out, we order tons less food and don't go to any more seafood buffets, LOL!!!!
I'm also more willing to go out more because I don't have anxiety over what to wear, if I'll fit in the space, and if I'll get too tired to keep walking.

I had 3 ounces of prosciutto. LAZY!

I threw my 4 year old daughter a birthday party at a trampoline park yesterday. OMG it was soooooooooo much fun. I was able to jump quite a bit and get myself up when I fell, lol. Being able to do that reminded me of the whole reason I chose the sleeve. It's allowing me the life I want to have with my family.
On the other hand, while so much fun and very good exercise, I am completely wiped out! My legs, knees, shoulders, ankles (whole body) hurt.
Here's to more fun!!!

The more I lose, the more strict I have to be about my carb intake. I would start by cutting way back on carbs and see what happens. Personally, I have to keep my carbs about 30 grams or less per day to lose - even with exercise.

Idk... I've lost it's hard to say what will happen. Some people lose band and cup sizes. Other just lose band sizes. Personally, I've lost 140+ pounds and I started in an overflowing 48DDD and now I'm in an underfilled 44DDD but too large for a DD, lol. You may only want to buy one bra.

I'll never understand why people think they have a right to tell you what's best for you. That said, I'm finding it necessary to be less diplomatic when people share their opinions.

....and she's gone...

I'm not going to stress it much more. I know I'm eating right and exercising. I wonder if it was a side effect of my kidney surgery and being on my back for a month. I'm going to watch it a few more weeks and see what happens.
