  1. I did find staying away from sugar hard pre-surgery, so I therefore don't want to have it in my eating plan now. I was the type who wouldn't be able to stop at one cookie/biscuit and have a feeling it would be a slider food for me anyway, so I am not going to even try. Kate
  2. Pack the scale away for a month. I know its hard but just focus on your daily goals and think about the weight further down the line. This is the time for healing, the weight-loss is just a bonus. Congratulations
  3. I was told 80-85% but it doesn't really matter as long as it works

    1. Steak: 23g per 3oz serving over to the next person
  6. Not sure where anyone said they were awesome. I answered a question with the truth. Does that really make me self righteous or does it make me a person who took the surgery serious and for ME that meant I stuck to the plan especially in the early months. I certainly wasn't judging. 😜
  7. So very happy with both the VSG and plastics. I am still home recovering, its been 3 weeks and 1 day. Im very swollen but otherwise feeling good !! I'm very blessed. Kate
  8. They are still quite swollen in that recent photo but perfect now they have settled down. Ian Whitworth was the surgeon. I had 5 procedures done at the same time and he did them all. Very gifted man!
  9. No. Never once. Never ever. I do hope you feel okay. Kate

    post op veggies

It might just be changes in taste. I loved tea before surgery, I was a complete tea-oholic but after even the smell put me off. I would have to walk away if someone had tea, it turned my stomach.
  11. Heartfelt post, thank you for sharing.

    I did it!

    Congratulations
  13. My friends husband killed himself last night. He leaves a 4 and 6 year old and a lovely wife. You never ever know whats going on in someones head. Just hug the person you are with, tell them how much you love and support them no matter what and be grateful for having them in your life. I'm sat here crying, I could bloody throttle him for doing this but also know how low he reached. I have hit the gin and tonic again. I don't mean to be a drama queen but fuck....

Kate, I am very sorry. I can't imagine dealing with something like that. He must have been in some real pain. I'll be thinking about you.

My heart goes out to your friend and her children. I'm just appalled at the self-centeredness someone has to do that awful deed. Yes, he must have been hurting and broken, and my compassion for them is while they're living; there will always be help and hope. Take your own life, I have none. I'll be praying for comfort and peace for his family and friends. I'm sorry you have to face this...and more sorry for the children. Smh. Breaks my heart.

  19. I had a great social life before and have a great social life now. It hasn't changed a bit (very early days I just used to go out with family and friends who knew what I had had done though). Life is there to live and don't care what others say. Congratulations on the weight loss !!

    2 hrs until surgery

Exciting for you !! Best wishes for the surgery and a speedy recovery. Don't forget, walk, walk, walk, sip, sip, sip, rest rinse and repeat. Kate
  21. I had a BMI of 39.6 (238 lbs) when I started this process. My surgeon suggested that I get down to 160 but I still felt that was too heavy for me, I am 5 ft 5. I'm now 135 so I have lost 103 lbs. It's good to have a goal in mind but just keep it 'fluid' if you want to. I have gone up and down a couple of pounds here and there and then lost it the next week/day.

    SURGERY DAY

Whoohooooooooooooo Congratulations! I will save you a seat on the losers bench
  23. I was told that I didn't need to buy expensive bariatric vitamins and to use a good chewable one initially and have it in tablet form when I wanted to. I am 18 months out and my bloods have always been tip top. Just as a side note, my spell checker changes bariatric to barbaric

    Do You Spring Clean?

I do spring clean the house and garage thoroughly each year, note down any jobs that need to be done for when spring/summer is here. I go through all the books I have read the past year (I am an avid reader) and take them to the charity shop (Two boxes this year). I do the same with clothes/shoes I don't think I will wear the next winter. Last week I went through all my photographs (yup I'm old enough to have had to have photos developed and not just put on a computer) and have sorted out some albums for my adult children. They will get them with their Xmas presents this year. They don't know about it and I think it will be a nice surprise.
